I'm not someone that likes raisins normally and these were different than the typical raisins I've had. I liked the sweetness to it with the rice and lamb. The flavors blended well together. I ordered the mantoo and beef tikka kabob wrap online for 7:30 dinner pick up through SLICE. When I arrived at 7:30 my order wasn't quite ready yet and would be another 5-10 mins. I wasn't upset or in a rush so I sat in a booth to wait. There is seating both inside and outside. Place was clean and had ample parking in the lot The gentleman who was at the register came out with a bowl of curry chicken soup and said it was for me while I waited. I was not expecting it but I appreciate the gesture. The soup was not too thick and had a hint of spiciness to it When I got my items, they were hot and smelled SO good throughout the car ride. Mantoo skin was thin but didn't break apart. The creaminess of the yogurt and tomato sauce paired very well with the ground lamb filling. The beef kabob was flavorful and had a kick of spicyness. The wrap itself was giant and tasted just like a plain thick crusted pizza. Food was good, spices were authentic to Afghan food, salt was a bit heavy in my opinion and qabuli rice was glistening with oil. The kababs were good, chicken was tender, beef was flavorful and chopan was slightly dry. The bolani stuffing was good however the bread was thick and soft, not thin and crispy. The same dough to make bread was used for bolani. The best item was sher yakh, ice cream, it was creamy and made fresh and perfect way to end the meal on a hot day. Before we even walked in, things started off on the wrong foot. As we were pulling into the parking lot, we were almost hit by a car that appeared to be dropping off someone who worked there. It felt chaotic and set an uneasy tone from the start. Once inside, we were seated while several other guests were already dining. We waited about 10 minutes before anyone came to bring us menus -- meanwhile, other tables were being helped quickly and attentively. It was noticeable and uncomfortable. When we finally placed our order (two meat and rice plates), the waiter stepped away to check if they had rice. He returned and took our order, which led us to assume everything was fine. About 10 minutes later, he came back again to tell us they were actually out of rice. For a restaurant serving Afghan cuisine -- where rice is a staple -- that was surprising and frustrating, especially after the delay. What made the experience more disappointing was the feeling that we were being treated differently. Most of the other customers dining there appeared to be Afghan and were receiving prompt, friendly service. We couldn't help but feel that if we were Afghan ourselves, the service might have been better. We really wanted to enjoy our lunch and support a local spot, but between the parking lot incident, slow service, and confusion with basic menu items, it just didn't feel welcoming. I hope the restaurant works on consistency and making all guests feel equally valued. We ended up finding a better Afghan restaurant in El Cajon that totally made up for this bad experience. Unfortunately they brought my friend's food after I was already finished eating since they had gotten the order wrong even though I had repeated it twice to the waiter and he even had repeated it back. But at most restaurants the manager would have taken off my roommates meal since the restaurant got it completely wrong and my roommate didn't even eat until my food was already finished. They didn't take anything off the bill or even offer free dessert or sodas. They actually never even offered us water. I will not return nor recommend them to anyone. read more

I asked for spicy sauce and it was a tomato based sauce that had great flavor and a decent amount of spice! The chicken was well marinated and cooked to perfection. The salad was fresh with lettuce, cucumbers, tomato. The best part of my meal was their special afghan dessert made with sweetened yogurt, rose water and saffron, topped with pistachios and honey. The ice cream was creamy, rich, and decadent, while also being super refreshing and the perfect palate cleanser! I would drive hours just for this dessert! Highly recommend! They offer complimentary self serve black tea with sugar which was a nice touch! Sheer Yakh has gone from great to not good at all. We'd drive a long way to have some Sheer Yakh, and when it came out it had walnuts instead of pistachio, and it was all cream, and the ice cream was terrible. I absolutely love Kunduz Kabob & Pizza. I make a trip here maybe once a month. If you are looking for authentic, flavorful Afghan food then this is the place to go. I also love the decor, it feels cozy and if you are Afghan, it feels like home. I recommend the Qabuli Uzbaki - it is bursting with flavor, and the meat is so tender. The only downside is that this is not available all day. It is available after around 2 pm and they usually run out by like 8 pm. The chicken tikka, lamb tikka, and beef tikka are all so juicy and delicious. You can't go wrong with any of them. I also really like the Mantoo and for dessert the ice cream is amazing. The service is good when it's not busy, but when it is busy definitely expect to wait and receive slow service. read more

The shih kabob was the most tender, most juicy, with perfect bits of fat giving flavor. The qabuli was so tender. It was cooked perfect and falling off the bone. The mantoo had a good amount of spice. You know it tastes good when it makes your nose run a little bit. And the ice cream was the perfect ending. Super yummy! We came on the way back from Sycuan. The portions are large! We got the lamb tikka kabob (no rice) and chive bolani and two bottles of water, and we sat outside in a booth. Everything was delicious! The servers don't all speak English, but they're all nice. The menu is on a QR code on the tables inside. When we ordered, the cashier told us the rice would take 30 minutes and asked if we wanted to wait. Simply mazadaar. Our friends suggested this place to us one night, and bragged about it having the best sheer yakh in the area. I obviously had to be the judge of that, so we went and were immediately greeted warmly and with a great ambience. We ended up sitting on the toshak, mattress arrangement outdoors. Came here over the weekend after it was recommended by a friend. I don't come over to this area often but this place was worth it! I went inside and sat at a table. The server came out pretty quickly to make recommendations since it was our first time being there. He was super helpful! We placed our order with him and he let us know it will take a little longer than normal since they had a couple large orders. This was no problem at all because we saw how much food some of those orders had! The food came out within 30 minutes and was worth the wait! He brought us salads and the sauces to start. I ordered the lamb kabob and rice. The lamb was delicious! And the rice was also amazing! For the table we shared a Chive Bolani which was delicious in the yogurt sauce!
