Wouldn't recommend Kunes at Mt. Carroll to anyone. I bought a new Traverse and a year later during COVID went yo buy a pickup and they wanted $2,000 over MSRP. I called them yesterday about my vehicle they sold me barely had it for 8 months its been nothing but problems they fix them right away but than I had new problems I was having and the guy named Jeff basically told me I should be grateful for them fixing the issues prior cause no other place would do it and they check their cars out before they go on the sales floor but already had to replace two things not even 3 weeks off that sales floor will NEVER go to Mt Carrol location ever again! read more

Planned Senior Citizen Consumer Fraud Bait and Switch and Forgery Here is what happened, MY STORY: I am 74 years old and in March had tried to purchase a vehicle at Kunes of Mt. Carroll, Illinois. I emailed a salesperson, Carly, who asked me to come and see a vehicle I had in mind. I went to see her and the vehicle, and was told she wasn't there. Then the planned fraud starts. The salesman, Mark, said never mind about that vehicle I came to see, we will show U a different vehicle we setup just for U, (bait and switch). A bigger and more costly vehicle. My brother and I took a short ride with Mark. we had a ten minute inspection. He never once explained the dashboard, I had no idea how to operate it ? My vehicle was 15 years old. It was a no trade deal. I liked the vehicle, with stipulations, 6 weeks for a down payment, and no more than $200 a month payments after a down payment. I actually had this set up thru my Credit Union. Then my brother left, I was alone and they moved on with their plan. He took me to a finance person,Zach. he took me in circles with his numbers I said $200/mo, are we there. He kept saying "ya we are right there". I signed and he said your first payment is $399, I said $200 after that he said "we are close". He then rushed me into a managers office, Ed. He did not ask how I was going to pay not once ?? Ed set up a credit card loan, I don't know why ?? He never told me what it was for ?? My head was spinning, and I was totally confused ? It was an over in a short time. I left Ed's office went out and the lobby, and Mark said the car is outside and threw the keys at me ?? I was not given my paperwork until over 30 days later, in the mail.I looked at all the signatures, and about a dozen were forged. I emailed Zach he said the 2nd loan was for taxes and title....$4000 for tax and title ??? He emailed me and said I was" not welcomed there anymore". I am paying $23,000 for the car after starting at $19,500. The car was $27,000 new in 2018.I have emailed them many times since and I get no answer back. I now have 2 loans I cannot afford to pay. The loan companies are on me. They have been notified of my problem. I was never offered a chance to make a down payment like I requested several times. I ASKED FOR A CARFAX AND NEVER GOT ONE THE CAR HAS SOME RATTLES and leaks Finally got carfax July 20. Was told 2 owners, there have been 3 owners and lease outs. I have not heard from Kunes since March2. I never knew I was getting 2 loans...just completely wrong treatment. The names used above are Kunes employees...all involved. Kunes offered to pay the second loan if I gave the loan company the car, then they could give to Kunes. I gave them the car. This is what Jessic Kistler of IHMVCU told me. Watch your wallet. They employ predatory practices designed to mislead, misrepresent and conceal what you are buying and under what terms. It's shameful to take advantage of people this way. You can combat this by having with you an auto loan calculator. I used one from NerdWallet. Hidden in their practices are basics what is the interest rate and what is the principal being borrowed. After insisting to see the details several times, they finally shared the interest rate was 17%, included in the loan amount was either a $2,000 or $4,000 charge (different charge from one Kunes dealer to the other) for ceramic coating, also included was GAP insurance of $3,000 (on a vehicle worth $15,000) and length of the loan. Knowledge is power. Don't go in here without a tool to give you the knowledge. read more

I bought a vehicle from this dealership with the hope that I would be happy to return for future purchases & even refer family & friends . That is NOT going to happen! At first I thought maybe it was just buyers remorse but as I had time to evaluate my purchase I realized it was all about the amount of money they could make off the sale. I understand they are in the business of selling vehicles & making money. I made the mistake of getting excited about having a new(er) vehicle & overlooked numerous things that I shouldn't have. That was my fault. I can truthfully say that this was the worst experience I have ever had after the purchase. I am 65 years old & I have purchased MANY vehicles in my life so that is really saying something. But of course the general manager accused me of wanting charity. I worked an average of 55-60 hours a week for 40 years. I didn't want their charity I just wanted to feel like they wanted me to be a satisfied customer & I would be happy to do business with them again but they obviously did not care whatsoever. read more

Very poor experience!!! Will never shop for a vehicle at a Kunes location again!! My husband purchased a truck from Kunes in Mt. Carroll and after having it for a month, found out they didn't give him the right truck. Yes, very true. The truck he received was the one he test drove and thought he was buying, but when he called them to have them send the title they said they gave him the wrong truck. The illegal bait and switch trick ??? We now have realized that the paperwork has a different VIN. That was over a week ago that we found out and they still haven't come to get the truck and give us our money back. Every time we call they say their boss hasn't gotten back to them yet. We really can't drive the truck because the VIN doesn't match the registration. WHAT DEALERSHIP DOES NOT CHECK THE VIN BEFORE SELLING ??? The salesman AND the sales manager signed off on the "wrong" truck. We just want our money back to go buy one somewhere else. What should have been an enjoyable time purchasing a new vehicle has turned into a nightmare and their management has NOT been helpful. They don't seem to want to resolve this issue. Again it makes one think they are trying to do the illegal bait and switch. read more

Beware of their No Fear Warranty. I have bought a couple vehicles from here and had always had them serviced by them. But the last time I had my vehicle serviced I read through all of the paperwork to find that my No Fear Warranty was void because of a service they did not tell me about did not get done over 15000 miles ago. And they just tell you that I forget to tell you that. And going back over the paperwork from all my other services, they only put that on the one before that. But nothing mentioned about it before I was already 10000 miles over it supposedly needing it done. Plus the price between the to visits for this service to be done went up $70. They promote they they are Christian and all about family and what not but they are scammers just like every other dealership. read more

I tried to get information on the price of an F150 pick up. The webpage said to "call for price" I was unable to call them from work so I sent an instant message. I simply asked what the price was on the truck. They were insistent that I must drive in there and appear in person to find the cost of the truck. I tried to tell them that I live nearly an hour away. I wasn't driving to the dealership without knowing what the price of the vehicle was. They refused to tell me the price. I went to JC Carey Chevrolet in savanna and bought the truck that I wanted for the price that I wanted. I wouldn't feel comfortable dealing with someone that won't tell you what the price is. read more

I recently purchased a used E-150 conversion van from Kunes Country Auto Group of Mt. Carroll after seeing it displayed online. It was a long drive for me and my wife Janice to this dealership, but glad we did. We had called first to see if van was still available and their Sales Professional, Julie Rush, assured us that it was. When we arrive Julie was waiting for us and showed us the van. It was a 2002, but immaculate inside, outside and under the hood. She was very informative re: the van and showed us how everything worked including the drop-down TV and push-button bed, before our test drive. The van smelled brand new and the drive convinced my wife that this was an ideal van for us to have. My wife is a very religious Christian, and it turns out so is Julie. In fact the entire dealership gives 10% of their earnings to the church. Though our credit rating is poor Julie worked with the finance people to secure us a loan from Ford. I am 72 years of age, and have been to many dealerships over the years, but without hesitation this was the best experience I have ever had with a dealer and Julie is by far the best sales person I have ever encountered. I give them a top rating for honestly and trustfulness - not often found at a car dealership. The entire staff at Kunes made us feel at home, and Julie contacted us a week later to check on how the van was running. read more
