I hired Gamut Group LLC, a former employee and affiliate of this company, to find a tenant for me during the pandemic as my prior tenant was moving out. They were compensated a broker's fee of one month's rent and showed the property when my tenant was away on vacation. The owner, Leah P, left all lights on, all doors open, including the back door wide open and the heat on. They were the one who had access to the unit during that time frame but tried to blame it my tenant who was out of the country. My tenant was extremely upset upon returning from vacation. She offered to help get my home ready prior to the next tenant. I was billed $600+ for the cleaning fee, painting (no invoice provided) & another repair of $250 (which was never performed). The total I was charged was the exact amount of my moving out tenant's security deposit. When the new tenant moved in the unit was filthy despite being charged with an exorbitant cleaning fee even after accounting for today's inflation. My new tenant was irate and the Leah was conveniently missing in action. When I confronted them, they gaslight me, throwing it back on me, when I was not even present during the aforementioned incidents as I was out of state at the time. After numerous conversations with tenant, they procured we both concluded we had been deceived and maltreated. They spoke ill of my tenant to me and to my tenant of me. Gamut Group LLC caused me an inordinate amount of conflict for me with both tenants and my neighbor. It was never their fault despite having ample evidence to the contrary. Each time they had hyperbolic excuses to explain blunders away. One excuse was the owner was contracting a "new" case of Covid every couple of days over a period of 30 days. I can speak from expertise while it is possible to get COVID-19 again while recovering from a previous infection, it is extremely rare. The immune system usually builds some level of protection after an initial infection. They utterly failed to take responsibility and ownership of her mistakes. They are a former affiliate of Kunevich & Lau, Gamut Group LLC engages in fraud, misappropriates client funds, and clearly considers ethics as situationally optional. read more

If I could do zero stars I would. I can't believe they still exist! They rented us an apartment a few of years back in Boston. They popped up on Google so I felt like I had to review! Price for the quality was ABSOLUTE bs. But I guess location. Move in day: apartment was filled with trash because the poeple that just moved out were clearly pissed and it smelled terribly of like cat urine ontop of it. Then we all got infested with fleas! (my poor cat) bites all over us. They put us up in a hotel 45min away while they bug-bombed it. Because quality. My current job had to pay for all of my cabs back to the city. Then we moved in and learnred about the plywood walls that they just painted over! No insulation. No warmth in the winter. Another funny thing is our bathroom had a hole in the floor leading to the basement, they just sent a kid to fill it in with caulk and put a tile over it. After two weeks of stepping, it caved in again... Then we had the "black mold incident". We all felt like we had asthma and the guy they sent in gave us the vial of sludge as the "test." He shook his head and just moved on to the next place. Knew nothing actually plausible would happen. Upon some research the dark purple indicator on the mold test isn't a good one! A lawsuit was honestly too much work for the money I had at the time as a student, so I naturally had to just bow out after a lawyer consult because of how screwed everything was and how shitty well they kiiiind of covered thier tracks. I am re-posting as a got notification that my original post was removed; reasoning seemed fishy. My experience is so bad, I am making sure to re-post. We were tenants in a property managed by Kunevich and Lau for 2 years, 2013-2015. My husband and I are both educated professionals and have never had problems with management companies before. We have lived in many rentals in many states and were blown away by how amateur and unprofessional Jarrett and his staff were. In addition to extremely poor communication both internally and externally to renters, there was a laundry list of problems we experienced. We frequently needed to contact the property owner directly to intervene on our behalf. Here are a few of our experiences: - Jarrett was rude, insulted my husband, and raised his voice on the phone when we asked why our property was not 'move in ready' when we arrived. The property owner needed to intervene and coordinated with Jarrett to have the issues resolved. - They entered our unit without notifying us on two separate occasions. We only knew about it because there was someone else's trash on the kitchen counter. - They frequently changed the way tenants were to report maintenance issues, so when one was reported and nothing happened after a week, they would tell you that you 'didn't do it right'. - They made errors on documents, billing and repairs and refused to take responsibility for the errors. - We had an appliance break and our property owner was prompt in getting a replacement. Kunevich and Lau took over a month to have it installed and ended up damaging the door frame quite extensively to the point that the property owner had to pay to fix it. - Jarrett would frequently throw his colleagues under the bus to absolve himself of responsibility when mistakes were made. - It took them 45 days to return our security deposit. We asked about it on day 30 and they stated it 'had been mailed'. When it finally came, the postmarked date on the check was 9 days after this phone conversation. If you are looking at renting a property that is managed by Kunevich and Lau, you will be in for a frustrating experience. In my opinion, avoid the headache and look elsewhere. read more

If you are looking for a company to manage your property for you and you care about your tenants well-being, please look elsewhere. This company abuses their tenants with ridiculous fees and unfair practices. -For example, they automatically applied a monthly renter's insurance fee to our account, wrongly believing we didn't have renters insurance. When we informed them of the mistake, they charged a $50 fee to remove the "program." - They are requiring us to resign our lease 8 months in advance, and threatened to to "put the property on the market" if we don't sign. To resign, they are charging a $250 fee. This signing fee is extremely rare, and usually is not more than $25. - They outsource all repairs through an "app" which is unreliable and difficult to manage. Someone who came to fix our shower left all their tools in our apartment, and no one an K and L even knew who they were. - There was also a $250 fee for a new tenant to take over the lease. -They are so awful that another group of tenants came by to organize a tenants rights group, but were too intimidated to proceed. Oh yeah, I forgot to "update" this. I lived in a decrepit 2 bdr apartment from September 2011-July 2012. Screw the realty place for renting out such an awful space. The kitchen ceiling collapsed in the first month, there were holes in the walls, layers upon layers of paint were peeling from the bathroom wall, most of the windows would fall out or wouldn't close properly, none of the doors shut properly and I was scrubbing/chipping off several years worth of mouse/rat poop off the kitchen walls. I suppose it's really Fineberg Management's problem. They were an absolute nightmare to work with too (and I never got my security "deposit" back??) so really, Kunevich & Lau, way to sell me a completely awful apartment and take advantage of students moving across the country. read more

Kunevich and Lau are the management company for my apartment. They are awful to work with. As other reviewers have mentioned they are consistently making mistakes. They promise repairs and do not follow through. The repairs that are done are temporary fixes. They regularly charge the incorrect amount to us and have bounced my account on more than one occasion. Today I received correspondence asking to remove items from common spaces "immediately" or they will be removed. Awful company- I don't recommend them to anyone. If you're a homeowner, they might not bother you- but don't trust them to care for your property. Edit: They were so awful to work with my landlord switched to a different management company mid-lease. They are both management and real estate agents so every year either they get a full realtor fee for an apartment or charge a $250 lease renewal fee. My landlord was shocked to find this out after using them for two years. During the transition they assured me that they cancelled the ACH to each of our 6 accounts. I called to confirm after receiving a note from the bank that an ACH was initiated- they reassured me that it would be for $0.00. On the next day the full rent was pulled from my account (and several of my roommates). I called and emailed multiple times and only received a response after threatening legal action. They did not take my concerns seriously and asked me to calm down after having money taken from me that I needed. Money was eventually returned but I can't overstate how unpleasant it was to work with this company. If I could, I would give them 0 stars. Another reviewer says it's hard to please everyone but the low quality of interactions I had with them combined with regular turnover of people we were interacting with leaves a bad taste in my mouth. So far so good! I've been working with Pete Cassani to rent an apartment for June 1st. I've lived in Boston previously, so I knew I was in for trouble when I flew out May 6th to look for a June apartment. Pete wasn't daunted. He showed me two fabulous apartments that fit my needs and budget. After some rumination, I decided I wanted to see the first apartment again, just to make sure it was a good fit. Pete was happy to show it to me again, and both of us were amazed that it was available on such short notice. I decided to take the apartment and went right back to the office to complete paperwork. Since then, I've been a total pain in the ass and bombarding Pete with emails, about which he's been very gracious. I pick up my keys on June 1st, so if anything goes horribly wrong between now and then I will update! K&L is such a refreshing change from all the Allston realty offices filled with smartass 22 year-olds who think they're hotshots. The realtors are more mature, but hilarious guys (and girls!) who do their jobs professionally. I'm a fan. read more

Reviews here seem binary either you hate these guys or love them. Personally, real estate is a rather poopy business. Tough to please everyone, it's like middle management you got all this responsibility and no power. Anyways, living in allston and brighton for 11 years, i've had experience with the good and the bad, these guys were good all the way through the process. sure there were bumps here and there and i let out my fair share of expletives but generally it wasn't their fault if the owner of a unit decided to back out, or if a potential buyer got cold feet. In the end, i tried to treat them like a partner instead a servant and it worked well. I started as a renter, ended up as an owner and recently sold my place. Goodbye allston, hello world. That said, their service is good, they know their stuff and since they do property management they have access to units that aren't available on to the open market. That was a pretty good reason to use them. I support family business, they aren't always as slick and technologically advanced as the corporate cats but it's nice to know there's real people there who care about what happen to you. read more

I rented from this company from 2013-2017 (I stayed despite the company largely because I couldn't afford to move). This review was posted over a year ago but was removed because I posted it on the K and L Realty site instead of the Property Management site by accident, so now I'm re-posting in the correct place. This is worst rental company I have ever worked with. Now that I've finally moved, I've confirmed that their nonstop "mistakes", hidden fees, and unprofessional behavior are not the norm (even for Allston) as the management company I've worked with since leaving has been wonderful. 1. My first issue was when my gas got turned off in late November of 2013 and when I called the company they said my gas bill hadn't been paid in over a year. My lease stated that heat and hot water (gas) were included in the rent, so I called K and L to ask why this bill wasn't being paid ...and they said that the " heat and hot water" in the lease was a mistake in the lease and that I was responsible. A MISTAKE in the lease?! That mistake had clearly been in the previous tenants lease as well because I only had lived in the apartment for three months and the bills weren't paid for over a year. Their stupidity and unprofessionalism had my heat and hot water turned off for TWO WEEKS in 20 degree weather in November. We had no heat, no way to cook, and no way to shower. After getting our gas turned back on, we had to pay for it, despite the signed lease stating that we didn't. While dealing with this whole fiasco, Jarrett Lau, one of the owners, was incredibly rude and condescending, and has been in every subsequent interaction since. 2. K and L is the only company I know that charges a lease resigning fee.... $100 for "paperwork refiling" the first year, and then $250 in consequent years. Also, my roommate and I both tried to find subleasers the first summer and emailed to find out exactly what needed to be done....and the agent "forgot" to tell our subleasers that they needed to pay a $100.00 fee until after they had sent an application and signed a sublet agreement and already paid a $40 fee. When I called to tell the agent that this mistake was completely unacceptable, her response was "well, what so you want me to do?" which is not a professional response. Also, it would often take weeks and multiple emails to get a response from anyone working in this company. 3. They sent paperwork to resign a lease in February one year, and our landlord (who was an incredibly nice man who hired K and L to deal with his properties, unfortunately) granted us an extension to April....in March, I was about to leave one day when a realtor entered my apartment with clients to show it. This violated not only our agreement with our landlord for our extension, but also we were not notified at all that someone would be entering, which is illegal. This realtor did not work for K and L, but for a company that had an agreement with them...this is speculation, but since the same thing happened to me, I have a feeling this is so that when people are being shown apartments by the other company, they Yelp/Google that company instead of K and L... 4. My apartment had parking spots for rent, and I asked months in advance for the fees and procedures...I was told parking was $100 a month and was not given any paperwork. I followed up the month I wanted to begin renting a parking spot and all the sudden, parking was $125 a month, with first and last month's rent due AND a $100 security deposit ON A PARKING SPOT. I was told I had to find that money in 24 hours or they would give the spot to someone else. 5. After subleasing one summer, K and L still took rent money of my account with their auto-withdrawal system. I complained, and they said they couldn't reverse the account, and had to mail a physical check. Two weeks later no check, so I emailed again...they said "they sent it but it must have gotten lost in the mail" so they sent another one. No way that wasn't a lie. Also, when one of my roommates moved out, they took rent out of her bank account for THREE MONTHS despite her emailing each time and saying she didn't live there anymore. My subsequent roommates preventatively had to block them through their banks to avoid that happening again. 6. Lastly, Jarrett liked to show up unannounced and/or let himself into our apartment without calling... Or sometimes even knocking. One time I woke up to find he had left a key on the counter...and I would have heard if he knocked as my bedroom was right by the front door. Another time we came home to find lights on and the toilet seats up (4 girls lived there at the time)...again we we were not notified anyone was entering the apartment and still have no idea why anyone was there. There were many, many more infractions over the years that are too numerous to count. Save yourself some money and frustration and never, ever rent from this company. read more

Kunevich and Lau does real estate - property management, rentals, buyers, sellers, etc. They also have a few other related companies, among them insurance. I used K&L for the purchase of my new home and worked with Jarrett Lau for the majority of the process. He was consistently great and was patient over my nearly 2 year process that involved seeing over 200 homes/condos and multiple offers that fell through for various reasons (certainly not the fault of K&L). He and one of his agents, Jen, were great in helping me through it all. I would recommend Jarrett to anyone looking to buy (or rent) around the city. read more

Long story short, if you're looking for a property management company I'd suggest you look elsewhere. I had the misfortune of living in an apartment Kunevich & Lau managed. They clearly do not care at all about their tenants. I had problems with them entering the apartment without contacting me first (and them leaving the toilet seat up for us, how nice!) and them misleading us about how they were using pictures of our unit (apparently taking pictures for "insurance" means putting them up on their website for rentals). Moving out was a difficult process with them as well, as their policy is to ignore your most basic questions about security deposits and apartment inspections. Although I finally received my deposit back, it took several requests, only to find out they were sitting on the check for over a week to spitefully send it to me on the last day possible. read more

I have worked with Jarrett for my real estate needs over the last several years and have always been impressed with his level of service. He has gone with me to multiple open houses and was my buyer's agent when purchasing a condo in downtown Boston last year. He always had all of the paperwork ready to go, and made the process very easy. He was knowledgeable and answered questions honestly, which I very much appreciated. He also sent over many prospective renters to a unit that I was trying to rent out. Based on my experiences, I highly recommend Kunevich and Lau for any real estate needs you may have. I also get my home owner's insurance through them (they also have a ton of other services, but I only really know about their real estate and insurance), and again, the process was always easy, and I have no complaints!! read more

K&L realty basically saved my life during my last apartment search. (See my other reviews on realtors for examples.) I had been getting no help whatsoever from the other realty companies I tried to work with. They didn't show up, they didn't respect my price range, etc. So finally, after the runaround from other realtors, my boyfriend found an ad on Craigslist for an apartment that looked great, and was under my maximum price. He called Karen and made me an appointment to see that apartment and another one in the same building- both in my price range. Karen was really helpful, and showed me the two apartments with no pressure whatsoever to take either one of them. The apartment from the Craigslist ad was exactly the same as it had been depicted in the ad- no surprises. I ended up taking the more expensive of the two, and still stayed within budget. The paperwork process was OK, although there were a few minor things I didn't like. The lease signing went well, and was pretty expedient. However, I do wish the credit check had been faster. I chose the apartment three weeks before I had to move, and I didn't end up signing the lease until 3-4 days before I moved. That made for a very stressful situation regarding truck rental. Overall, I was really impressed with K&L realty, and I would definitely go back to for my next apartment search. read more

My boyfriend and I were moving from Cape Cod to Boston for the first time and finding a realtor that would actually TALK to us, keep within our price range (not going over $1200/month), and not cancel on us last minute was getting hard to find. We had been trying since March. We went through about 15 realtors before calling Chris at K&L. I wish we had done it much sooner. He was very polite on the phone even though we were getting down to the wire (it was August and we wanted to move in September 1st) and made accommodations to show us four places two days from then. The night before he even called to confirm our meeting. That day we arrived on time and he was there to greet us and shook our hands. He showed us three very nice roomy studio apartments (attempted to show us four - one of them REEKED of cat piss and he told us he wouldn't even insult us by showing it). He knocked very loudly before entering each apartment and told us he had called the tenants yesterday to let them know he was going to be showing us the apartments. It was apparent he did do this because no one was home in any of the apartments. I fell in love with the second place he showed us (we live there now). Filling out paperwork was a breeze. The cosigner situation didn't go as smoothly but that was not Chris' fault. He did everything he could to help us out with that. He told us to take pictures of EVERYTHING so we could get our deposit back - which was VERY helpful. On move-in day, he called us to make sure we'd be there to get the keys by four o'clock. When arriving to get the keys, he included a goodie bag with the keys, the lease, toilet paper, snacks and a sponge. I am definitely going to be using Kunevich and Lau the next time I need to move here in Boston. They definitely were leaps and bounds above every other realtor around here. read more

My sister is moving back to the Boston area and Kunevich & Lau or "KNL" was the realty office my parents chose after being referred to them from a friend. Jarrett, the owner or manager (I can't remember which) was an awesome guy and really knows his stuff! Hands down, this guy knows more about buildings in the Boston area than I ever could have imagined. I pointed at my old apartment building in Brighton and he not only knew how many apartments were in the building, but also who the owner was and what their monthly rent is approximately. Anyway, the offices are a little small, but the staff is really nice and knows their stuff. After my picky sister chose a place, she had a great place in the Fenway area, right near Fenway Park. read more

first off nick is the worst agent there jarett tried his best to help they wouldn't return any calls nor any emails. second when we asked to see other properties we were told there is nothing better and when we asked to return to the apt we were refused he was to busy to care. the only easy point was payment then once we go to move in we were told multiple different times when we can pick up our keys finally they were ready at 12pm on September first in brookline we moved to jp and if anyone knows the traffic then they know the hassle of it all. to top it all off they gave us the wrong keys so we had our stuff outside just sitting there for quite some time. we were told this place would suit our needs and then we find out it isn't suited for us at all. renter beware!!!!! read more

They are responsible for the worst realty experience of my five years in Boston. All of the people that work here are horrible. First of all, they lied to me about what neighborhood the apartment was actually in, showing three women an apartment in one of the most dangerous areas in Boston and selling it as an "artists" neighborhood. They did not listen to our criteria nor cared about what we were looking for. All these people care about is that you sign the lease and then they will neglect you for your entire experience after that. They will also speak to you in a condescending and flat out rude manner, that is if they ever answer you at all. They do not know what they are talking about legal wise- or if they do they don't want you to know your rights as a tenant. In short, do not waste your time or money here. They will push you into a place that you will be unhappy with, and give you a hard time when you ask them to fix things. read more

Changed our insurance and didn't tell us. We had to deal with mortgage company and RMV directly - received notices we were in default. Problematic. Poor customer service. Am switching as soon as possible. Disturbing the lack of customer service. Why have an agent if you end up uninsured in the eyes of the RMV and can't drive until you appear for a hearing? And no response from the agency. They changed from commerce to travelers - don't even know if there was any benefit to me the insured in terms of price and the agency won't tell me. Seems the change benefitted them only and I have to do all the work to insured I am covered. read more

Jarrett manages a condo where I own property. He does not pick up the phone and respond to emails and will tell you he has a call log that does not register a call being made. Several owners have complained about this to me. Additionally, he has been deceptive and I feel dishonest in his dealings with me on a particular matter. Not a trustworthy business person in my opinion. There are better companies to manage a condo. read more

Jarrett and Kari and the rest of the team have been really awesome throughout all the different aspects of managing my family's property and renting out our units. They're always available to answer any questions I have and have done a tremendous job dealing with all the issues we started out with. Jarrett is extremely knowledgeable in all things real estate, from making sure the building is up to code, to managing construction and renovations, to dealing with and finding new tenants. It also comes in handy that you can get snow plowing services for these winter months when the last thing you want to do during a snowpocalypse is go outside and shovel! read more

He didn't bother himself to have any kind of respect to us--talking to us without looking at us, staying on his phone constantly, treating our concerns as unworthy, etc. I couldn't bear it anymore after his disdainful "huh it's fine every American house is like this" and talked back--guess what? He snapped and said "if you have the money you can have whatever apartment you want, no need to work with me." Well I guess I wouldn't work with him nor this company then, with pleasure. read more

We were selling a condo back in Boston and needed to work with a Real Estate Agent back east. Jarrett took care of the RE transaction from start to finish. Jarrett took all of the stress of selling property and his team took care of the details. He found us a terrific buyer and the sale went through smoothly. More importantly he worked with me from California and I did not have to travel back east in person to complete the transaction. 5 stars for Jarrett and his company!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE LOVE K&L went there to sign papers on a wednesday realized that our landlord had messed up -our rent had gone up by 150-200$ spoke (thank god Greg our agent informed us about it) we scrapped the deal.. and decided to go see other cheaper(within our student budget of 1250-1300$) apartments.. thursday we arrived and saw 5 apartments all within our budget and precisely what we were looking for and at 6pm that day..we signed the paper work! Yes thats how GOOD these guys are..sit down with them for a minute and they will find you the apartment you are looking for.. of the 5 that we saw i loved at least 3 of them :) I would definitely go back to them next year! read more

Used K&L as my property manager for two years. They did a great job and I had no issues. Extremely responsive and helpful in dealing with some stressful situations (busted pipes, broken heaters, etc.) I decided it was time to get out of the rental game and used K&L to sell my house. They did a great job prepping the house and getting it ready to sell. It quickly sold and it was a great experience. I fully recommend them. read more

Nicholas Nugent was my realtor. He was so incredibly awful. My roommate and I found an apartment through him that we liked and went through the motions of getting it. We thought we had it after we put some money down but he then told us they put it back on the market. Without communicating with us at all he said we were too late getting the money to him and was very aggressive and angry. And when I repeatedly asked him for the check back that I had given him that was close to $2000... he never responded. I tried contacting him for over a month and nothing. Then today he finally responds, "hi, i shredded it." This guy is an asshole. DON'T USE HIM. HE IS AWFUL AND MEAN. read more

Literally the WORST company I have ever worked with. Every single portion and step and process was made to be overly confusing and overly complicated. They only care about their business and how to make the most money off of you and your roommates/family as possible. I have worked with two other Boston property management companies (and my roommates have their own experiences as well), we all hope to NEVER work with these people again. They are the most unorganized, shady, incompetent, and RUDE people. In our three years of living in our home, we went through at least 7 different "property managers". Everytime we would try to resolve any issues, get anything fixed in the house, our emails/phone calls would go unanswered until someone finally got back to us letting us know that person left the company and here is the new manager. MANY issues were never resolved. When resigning the lease or removing/adding roommates for a new lease term, we would be hit with random fees for any process (I'm talking $250 resigning fees, $200 tenant change fees even though there is a new lease, etc.). Basically anything that involves some sort of paperwork being handled will incur you a fee. Jarrett Lau takes the cake for worst customer service/owner/manager/realtor I've ever encountered. He refuses to take responsibility for any of the horrible mistakes, incompetencies, rip-offs, stress and anxiety that his company and protocols create. He speaks to his clients with condescension and is exceptionally rude. He is only concerned with making as much money as possible. GUYS, they literally LOST OUR LEASE and asked us if we could make a copy for them. Worst company in the history of property management/renting companies ever. Please save yourself a horrible year and don't work with them. read more

I saw an apartment and immediately put in an offer at the asking price. After waiting days for a response, they increased the price above listing. Having never experienced this before, I believe this is a deceptive practice. I am frustrated and saddened by the experience. read more

DO NOT USE THESE GUYS! Kunevich and Lau are unprofessional, unreliable, unresponsive. My daughter moved into an apartment in September and the stove did not work. The electrical outlets were not up to code, and the place was filthy. They replaced the stove with a defective stove that has been leaking gas since mid-September. My daughter has been so sick for the past 3 weeks - I now know that she has natural gas poisoning. I have no idea how this will affect her long term. I would never use this company again. They are not managing properties, they are just taking your money. read more
