This is the 2nd Kung Fu Tea location we've been to, and our expectation wasn't great after trying their teas multiple times in the first location. We ordered something we've never ordered in a Kung Fu Tea before: Brown Sugar milktea. This particular Kung Fu Tea spot is in a fantastic location, next to our favorite ramen spot, Miso Ramen Bar. My girl ordered 1 we'd share while we finish our meal. Feng Cha in Morrisville was about to close so Kung Fu was the only milktea place we can get one by 9 PM. The texture of the boba is perfect, and the amount is well-balanced for a $6+ milktea. My first sip of the milktea itself didn't last a great impression, however. While I can smell the fragrant smell of freshly-brewed tea, I could barely taste the brown sugar flavor and the milktea doesn't taste as creamy as Feng Cha's or Milklab's. Even Tiger Sugar near H-Mart served better quality brown sugar milktea but it's slightly better than Breco Tea's disappointing Brown Sugar milktea. In other words: This milktea is average compared to other Brown Sugar milkteas we've tried. My girl loves its aroma and she says it's not bad. Customer service is fast: Barrista was able to serve our drink in less than 5 minutes. Ambiance is fine, place looked clean. Overall, I see Kung Fu Tea Cary as the McDonald's of the milktea industry - franchise looks as strong as Quickly's. and it'll be enjoyable to a casual milktea customer. 3.5 rounded up to a 4 Great drinks, especially my Strawberry Lemon Green Tea!!! So delicious! A no-frills place to pick up boba. Not a lot of space to dine in, in my humble opinion, but the taste of my drink totally made up for that. No wait and the three drinks I ordered were ready quickly. UPDATE: Smells and looks very clean (which is a huge plus, of course) but the pine-scented cleanser used can be a little much for someone who has allergies like me (the reason for the 3.5 rating). I have experienced this on two visits and assume I am visiting right at the time for a deep cleaning. Definitely appreciate the cleanliness though and I wouldn't change that at all! As I've written in some of my reviews for other Kung Fu Tea locations around the country, not all Kung Fu Tea stores are created equal. While it's the same chain, I've noticed the taste and quality of drinks between locations can vary, some of which have been significantly different. I'm happy to report that the drinks we tried at this location were all pretty solid. Currently, this is the only Kung Fu Tea location in the Triangle. This location opened in Cary in June 2017. It's located in the Preston Corners shopping center, the same plaza as Lowes Foods. There's plenty of parking. When exiting this shopping center, I suggest exiting out "the back" via NW Cary Pkwy where you can make a left or right turn. Due to medians on the surrounding roads, the other exit points will force you to make a right turn where you then may eventually have to U-turn. This will save you a bit of time and hassle. Overall, this Kung Fu Tea seems to be doing a good job handling the COVID-19 pandemic. When we first visited, there was a socially-distant crowd of masked customers waiting outside. We hadn't ordered ahead and didn't have time to wait around, so we left. On our second visit, we made sure to order ahead using Kung Fu Tea's app. The app was straightforward and easy to use. We had no problems with it. Early in the day, we scheduled a Saturday 5:15 PM pick-up. Our order wasn't ready on time so we were asked to wait outside. It was ready closer to 5:25 PM, so the wait was roughly 10 minutes. I'm not sure what caused the delay. During this visit, the store was only allowing five customers inside at a time. They also required masks, which at the time and currently, is mandated statewide in North Carolina. Waiting outside with no crowd this time, we felt pretty safe. The only cause for concern was the door handle which you have to pull open to enter. The manager, a young lady, seemed to be running a tight ship. She was definitely an enforcer. Her personality came across as bossy, but during this global health crisis, I prefer that to managers who enforce very little or not at all (see my review of Shiki Sushi in Durham for an example of the opposite end of the enforcement spectrum). This Kung Fu Tea is long and narrow with a counter against the wall, opposite the open tea prep kitchen, for seating. The bar-height stools were stacked away when we went (no "dine-in"), but the interior looks like it can seat up to approximately 20 customers during non-pandemic times. Very simple setup here which probably looked extra minimal due to COVID. The store sells a wide variety of drinks - over 60 kinds - from their popular Taiwanese milk teas to slushes, punches, and even espresso-based drinks. Most drinks come in two sizes, medium (16 ounces) and large (24 ounces), and many can be served hot instead of cold. There are about a dozen toppings to choose from and, like most other bubble tea shops, you control the amount of sugar and ice in your drink. At the time of writing this review, medium drinks without toppings range in price from $3.25 to $4.45 each while large and hot drinks range from $3.95 to $5.45 each. Standard toppings like bubbles (tapioca pearls) and pudding are $0.50 each, premium toppings such as fig jelly and crystal and popping bubbles are $0.75 each, and milk caps are $1.00 each. Here's what we ordered and tried from our first purchase at this location (all size medium): * Red Bean Slush ($5.65) - herbal jelly, bubbles, little sugar (30%) * Rosehip Lemonade ($3.85) - less ice, half sugar (50%) * Winter Melon Tea ($4.00) - crystal bubbles, less ice, half sugar (50%) * Oolong Milk Tea ($4.25) - bubbles, half sugar (50%) All four drinks were delicious. I liked them about equally and recommend each one. It's all about your personal preference or what you're in the mood for. For example, the Red Bean Slush was a relatively heavy and substantial drink. Even at 30% sugar, I found it to be satisfying sweet and hearty. It had an appetizing, thick, "beany" consistency. On the other hand, the Rosehip Lemonade was a fairly light, refreshing beverage. Also sweet, with a strong yet pleasant floral taste. Deliciously tangy too. The Winter Melon Tea and Oolong Milk Tea are more "classic" type Kung Fu Tea drinks to me. I've ordered those often over the years, especially the latter. It's simply sweet, milky, creamy, and comforting. The taste and consistency of the bubbles at this location were on point as were the teas themselves. The Winter Melon Tea has a unique flavor and leaves a lingering aftertaste in the back of your mouth that not everyone likes. Some people may find it too sweet and syrupy, so you might consider dialing back the sweetness level. It's a smooth drink. The Oolong Milk Tea is one you can't go wrong with. It's a staple item to me. If you don't like it, then chances are you don't like milk/bubble teas in general. Kung Fu Tea typically makes some of the best Oolong Milk Tea around, in my opinion. read more

Still not my favorite Kung Fu Tea, and getting seriously bad vibes here on my most recent visit. The Lemon Black Tea was okay and it tastes pretty good. A couple of the employees are really friendly, but a couple of them less so, to be very kind about it. It's a little claustrophobic in terms of space. I like it and I like that it's here and it's the only one in the area (KFT that is, but Cha House is King around here, for sure), and in fact the only one in the Carolinas other than the one in Charlotte - but I think there are issues, and one of the boys got into an argument with me (on a previous visit) about changing the tea for one of the green teas. I was asking what kind of beans they had one time. The girl was like "what is this, Mung Fu Tea?" And I asked them both "what is the past tense of I Bring Kung Fu Tea?" They incorrectly responded "Brung Fu Tea." My old review said: The first night I came here was perfect. They have a really lovely people and really good products. The people working here are really lovely and a place earned a 5-star rating easily. However I came back on the 2nd night to get myself a very berry black tea - which is an off menu drink - and the only non-Asian kid working here refused to serve me, and was extremely rude about it. He wouldn't even ask the boss if it was okay. "She's back there, but I'll get in trouble just for asking." That's funny, because the night before, they told me it'd be no problem, and most KFT locations do it for me. So - He basically told me there was no way and if I didn't want to order something that was on the menu he couldn't serve me. That's funny because I get the very berry black tea at most locations and I got it here too in the past. So that's why they've been reduced from five stars to four stars. The daughter saw a video on TikTok, so off we went. The place is located in a shopping center, so parking can be difficult if you arrive during peak hours, which we did. Nonetheless, we entered the narrow, quaint tea shop packed with people standing shoulder to shoulder either on a bar stool, sipping their hearts out or anxiously waiting for their order numbers to be called out. I opted for a small rosehip lemonade, and my daughter got a large passion fruit slush with fruit jelly. We walked to the car, buckled our seat belts, and I took one gulp and another. It was sad had quickly such a refreshing drink disappeared. My daughter sipped hers gracefully and realized it was mango and not passion fruit but agreed that the drinks were on point. I was bummed at the cost-to-size ratio and the amount of foam in my drink that should have been liquid. This store is in a convenient location and has a pretty big selection of drinks. Recently they ran out of some items so the app didn't show many selections available. The app offers discounts if you sign up, but doesn't always have as many selections available as what the store actually has. The drinks here are sweeter than I typically like, but my husband loves sweet drinks so I will go here with him. He also doesn't like tea, and this place offers a variety of fruit slushes with no tea that he likes. For those who are lactose intolerant, it looks like they offer drinks made with lactose free milk. KFT is one of my favorite places to get boba! They have a variety of options, as well as a convenient location. The sizes of the drinks are perfect, and the interior of the store is clean and beautiful. However, the main reason I love this store is the staff and service! All of the cashiers and workers are welcoming, kind, and understanding of any drink adjustments. Drinks are prepared quickly, and wait time is not long regardless of how many people are waiting. Additionally, the COVID precautions are well-executed. The one thing I dislike is the indoor seating - the addition of some tables rather than a single row of chairs would be nice. Considering the limited space of the store, however, I think they did the best that they could to provide a great experience. Happened to be in the area for an appointment and was really excited to try this place out after reading the great reviews. I also know that this chain happens to be super popular on the west coast too. The space is pretty tiny, but was bright and clean. They're only offering grab and go service during COVID and only allow a certain amount of people in at a time so it's nice to see that they're taking safety precautions. I'm more a fan of fruit teas rather than milk teas so I opted for their Honey Black Tea with boba. I love my teas on the sweeter side, but after my first sip, the tea was so sweet, almost overwhelmingly so but I wanted to soldier on. The black tea taste was a little off, tasted almost briny. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it had a weird aftertaste and I'm not sure if it was the tea or the honey or both? The boba itself was pretty tasty so I ended up just scooping that out of the drink and eating it by itself lol. Even though I was disappointed with my drink, their menu boasts so many other flavors and kinds of teas that I don't want to give up. I'll be back to try another drink and will update my review. Solid bubble tea place. I haven't tried many flavors, but I've only been impressed by the Kung Fu Milk Tea. The taro milk tea has a strange taste to it, and from what I hear from friends, the other flavors are hit-or-miss. Recently, I tried to order the Thai tea, but they were out. :( The nice thing is if you refer friends through their app, you get a free drink. So I've gotten my fair share of free drinks. :) Another key is you need to customize the sweetness and ice levels. Standard sweetness and ice is: (1) too sweet and (2) too much ice. The space is quite small but I think the organization of store made it look spacious. The menu was pretty straightforward for different types of "tea", topings, sugar level, ice level, and the size. But I ended up getting medium sized Orange Green Tea with bubbles, 50% (half) sugar level and less ice because it had a star next to it for being popular! At first, I thought it was a bit odd taste, I ended up liking it at the end. My friend ordered Oolong Milk Tea, which was so delicious! I recommended that x100 :) I've been a regular customer to nearby bubble tea place called Quickly. I think they are both equally good and have lots of choices! One thing my friend and I both didn't enjoy was the customer service of the cashier. It was our first time visiting this bubble tea, so we were struggling to order. When my friend was ordering her Oolong tea, the cashier lady gave attitude to my friend for not knowing sugar level and ice level choices. Um, if you want to give that attitude, there are many different job you can get other than being a cashier. Kung Fu Tea has been slippin' lately. On several occasions over the past few months, I've gotten boba that has been either overcooked or undercooked. It's really inconsistent, there are times where it's fine and other times where mine is not good and my SO's is. I keep going though, leaving it up to chance that I'll catch them on a good day. The real catalyst for this updated review though is the mango green tea I got the other night. I order this probably about half of the times I go, part of the reason I like it so much is because it comes with mango jelly. This time the mango jelly was not mango jelly at all it, I would describe it more akin to mango pulp. Idk if they ran out of mango jelly and I got the stuff at the bottom of the barrel, but it was extremely unpleasant to drink. I ended up having to toss it, which really bums me out. It legit just tasted like straight up sugar and powder. Whenever I go to a new boba place I usually get Thai tea as a safe option to try it out. If they messed that up then . . . I make many conclusion from that but I don't judge too badly because maybe it was just that one drink. No. . . I tried another drink. I love this place! My go-to for some boba tea in the area. [It's a bit further from where I live than a place that is closer, but IMO not as good (Quickly). We have been on a bubble tea kick for a while now so we were excited to see Kung Fu Tea in a nearby plaza. After shopping at Lowe's, I decided to stop in. Before entering the cafe, I read through the menu posted outside the door and steps for ordering. They clearly list out recommended steps for ordering milk tea, which makes it very easy to customize your drink. I was ordering for my fiancé and was not sure what he wanted to I decided on the Kung Fu Milk Tea (can't go wrong with black tea, right?). Base charge was $3.50. I ordered a large (+$0.75), with boba (+$0.50), half sugar, and no ice. The price, packaging, and flavor is typical of other bubble tea places. I've been frequentimg this spot for several months now and I have tried a quite a few of their selections and I have to say that the best option has been the Taro milk tea with zero sugar added (yet it's still very sweet). Prices are on average $3.75, so it's quite affordable. Although there are some seats, it gets pretty crowded in there so typically you have to place your order pick up your product and get out. The staff rarely smile and always have a tense look on their faces as they create the drinks...lol. But, hey, the product is to die for.
