I've been going here for years; actually as often as I can, as I live in a town north of Colorado Springs. I LOVE their Bento Box and their Tempura is the BEST I've ever had ANYWHERE! The batter is light and crispy (not like some places where you feel you are being served food in a heavy batter, like a fish n' chips), and the accompanying dipping sauce, is SPOT ON! I've been other places where the tempura dipping sauce was so bad tasting I couldn't finish the Tempura! I get there on all different days and times, no regular time, and the hostess always seems to remember me like a regular! She remembers I typically get their California Roll special with my meal and asks, without me ordering it first, if I'd like to include that in my order (again.) We are celebrating a birthday today. The birthday boy wanted sushi so this is the place to go. Our favorite is always Volcano Roll. We tried the KISS of Fire, it was good but spicy. Brought my nieces and grandson at 4:30 on a Wednesday to experience hibachi and make a new memory. Several reviews commented on walking in and enjoying hibachi w/o reservations so I thought I was good. Nope! Only one chef during the week so we didn't get to experience it. We ordered two generic, kid-friendly rolls, fried soft shell crab, beef udon, edamame and two kids bento boxes. I left most of the second roll because fish was slimy. Very busy place at 5:30 but mostly cleared out by 6:30. Very friendly waitress. She had us lugging so much! My husband got the short ribs which he greatly enjoyed. Our friend got an egg roll which turned out to be 6 halves! She enjoyed them so much. Her teriyaki bowl was also very good. I ordered shrimp stir fry. I have been to Kura many times and very happy with our experience. However, recently went there and extremely dissatisfied with the experience. My husband ordered sushi and received this in about 12 minutes. I ordered the scallop appetizer. I asked the waiter about the status of my order after 20 minutes. He went into the kitchen to check on the order but never came back to the table to give a status. After 35 minutes waiting and watching other cooked meals come out for patrons who arrived after us, I canceled the order. The waiter apologized several times and asked if I wanted to order something else. I wanted what I ordered. He never offered to expedite the order. The restaurant was NOT busy. There were only a few tables. I don't know if they didn't have scallops or what the issue was but this is the last time we will go to Kura. I've never had this happen in over 50 years of going to restaurants. I'm still shaking my head over this experience. read more

Absolutely awful experience at Kura on Mother's Day. I made a reservation in advance, expecting a special evening, but instead walked into chaos. There was ONE person working the front--trying to act as host, food runner, cashier, and server all at once. The line was long and unorganized, and it took nearly 20 minutes just to be acknowledged. When it was finally my turn, the overwhelmed staff member--who barely spoke English--had the nerve to claim I was late, which was completely false. Then, she told us we couldn't do hibachi because it was "almost 7 pm." What kind of restaurant takes Mother's Day reservations and then turns people away? We ended up having to leave and scramble for another restaurant at the last minute. Absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. We were looking for a local Japanese teppanyaki place in Briargate. We are visiting our daughter and son-in-law from CA so we had some reservations - we were greeted and sat immediately when we requested the hibachi. The atmosphere was genuinely serene and our drinks were brought out promptly. They took our orders and were then introduced to Justin, our chef. He was cordial, entertaining, and knew his craft. Our fried rice, veggies, and steaks were phenomenal and he didn't splash ingredients our way, always a plus! But it really was one of the best Japanese restaurants we've experienced. It's a ton of food and the rolls were tasty! The place is fine inside, and the servers are friendly and fast paced. Wow, what a disappointing nightmare of a mess with customer service. This restaurant is clearly understaffed, and I know a lot of restaurants are, so I always try to give restaurants grace, but... We dined in person in December and it took 20 minutes before anyone even came over to offer us water, but ironically they greeted the other table that was sat after us got them water and took their order before they even addressed our party of four. Then last night we did take out and we were missing a roll and a our standard roll that we always order was smaller than usual. Strange! Today, I called back to ask for a refund on the missing role and they gave us grief as to why we didn't call back last night...well we didn't call back last night because they were insanely slammed and their credit card system was down, so I just didn't want to hassle with it, so instead of making it right, they actually HUNG UP on me mid call as we were discussing the fact that I wanted a refund and expected them to make it right! Not to mention they can't give a refund over the phone that I have to actually physically go back into the restaurant, what a hassle! They were so incredibly rude! Unfortunately, there was not any sort of customer service going on at all and it was just a very defensive call on the restaurants end. Repeat customers are a restaurants lifeline and honestly I am a repeat customer here, but I will go to other sushi restaurants in the area that are just as good, like "Jun's" or "Sushi Ato"that have much better customer service! It's too bad because the food is actually pretty amazing, but until they can get their customer service up and running, I will never ever be able to recommend this restaurant! Decent place for lunch, however does not stand out when there are several other nearby places that offer the same food but better quality. I have been here for lunch twice now and while the service is very good, the food is lacking. Both times I ordered different bento boxes (one beef and one chicken one) and the meat was not as flavorful as I was hoping and could use a bit more caramelization from cooking. The bento boxes are around $15 to $16 and come with the meat, rice, a small amount of iceberg salad, one fried gyoza and some tempura fried veggies. This place is so close to where I live that It's one of the many reason's I have been dining at Kura for the past 5 years. The Ambiance is relaxed and giving off a modern vibe. Their baked bay lobster roll, dragon roll, Spider roll, & naruto style hit the mark. Their cucumber paradise roll fits the bill, especially if you want to cut some extra carbs for a a guilt free indulgence. when you have a sushi craving and have specific dietary needs/goals it's a really nice option they offer. Some places do not offer Naruto style, but i'm very pleased they do. I had Kura take out sushi for my 30th birthday 4 years ago and they did a fantastic job packaging up everything. It was an incredibly large order since I was also feeding friends and family, but it all came out perfect. My 30th Birthday was memorable to say the least thanks to Kura! I will continue to come here for Sushi and hibachi, and I urge other people to give them a try if you haven't. read more

This is my second favorite sushi place in town. We come here ALL the time. Especially because the kids LOVE it. And they are picky little monkeys! They won't eat sushi but they love the Bento boxes. My husband and I love the Nigiri, the baked mussels (with crab!), the Cadet and Research rolls. We love that we have a huge menu so you can bring (lame) friends who maybe don't like sushi. Was a little surprised to see so many negative reviews about the staff. We come here about once a month and have never had that experience. Everyone has been sweet and wonderful. And incredibly patient, even saint-like, about our 9 year old knocking his water onto the floor EVERY. SINGLE.TIME. (we are sorry!) We've been 3 times since COVID and the tables were socially distanced and the everyone was wearing masks. Zero crowds. The ONLY negative experience was the one time we decided to try the Teppanyaki side. The chef we got was a major bummer. We are use to Musashi where they put on a show. This guy was just telling us horrible stories about his home and personal life. Very strange. No tricks, no charm. We left needing therapy.
