I am so heartbroken about giving this place such a low rating. My husband and I had enjoyed Tomo Sushi for almost 17 years. We went to the restaurant at about 12:30 in the afternoon on Sunday to celebrate our anniversary with our two children. We had been looking forward to it all week only to be met with disappointment. Our waitress was not attentive at all and we felt brushed off several times. My young children are usually offered a coloring page with crayons and even kid friendly chopsticks, but they were overseen like they weren't even there. Our waitress had brought my plate of food out 5-10 minutes before the rest of my families food. Which was very inconvenient because everyone at my table was so hungry. The sushi rolls we ordered were delicious, but unfortunately mine and my husband's bento boxes were lack luster. My teriyaki salmon was dry and slightly burnt on the edges and his teriyaki chicken was extremely over seasoned and inedible. It really is such a shame since this was our favorite place for almost two decades and was often OUR spot to go to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. read more

My server gave me a water and miso soup as soon as i sat down. i knew what i wanted to order but i waited until they were ready for me. The miso soup was pretty good, but it's hard to mess up miso. I ordered the kyoto shoju ramen with beef. it took maybe 20 mins for my order to arrive. I tried the broth first as i always do, it was alright. I tried the beef and it had no flavor, overcooked to a crisp and added nothing to the ramen. disappointed, i still finished my food. the eggs were okay but i had my hopes a little high based on reviews i read. When I went to pick up my order I asked for unagi sauce and was SCOLDED by the clerk because there was a charge for it (25¢). I said I would be happy to pay for it now and the girl said, still with an attitude, "no, just so you know next time there is a charge." I said I get sauce all the time with my order and she said well now there's a charge. So she's getting all pissy because I was getting a free sauce (about 2 oz.) on a $60 order, and I offered to pay for it right there! And she lost the $12 tip I was going to leave. I got home and checked their site and there was nothing about there being a charge for sauce. I went to place another sample online order just to see, and again, there was no option to order or pay for sauce, which is why I always had to ask for it when I got there. I think this place needs to get its priorities in order. Do you want the 25¢ for the sauce, which costs you 4¢, or do you want me to continue placing $60 and $80 orders 4 or 5 times a month, like I do now? We walked in, got sat right away, Carrie got our drinks and appetizer right away. The appetizer came out fast too. We had the spicy calamari. The breading was good, the spicy sauce that was on it was good, the flavor of the meat was good. But it was more firm than most. Like it was cooked longer. But the breading wasn't burnt at all. It was really good. The rolls came out pretty fast too. 10-15 mins. I'm ok with that. THE ROLLS ARE MASSIVE!!!!!!! Like 2 bites big!!! HUGE!! My gf didn't like the rolls. But I liked everything we ordered. The bill was $105 for what we got. NOW, tbh, I liked it. I liked it a lot. I ordered a Sushi Bento Plate and my wife had the Short Rib Bento plate. Dinner is served with Miso Soup. When the soup was served to our table. The soup spoon was already in the soup. I picked up the soup and drank it out of the bowl. I then looked at my spoon and noticed 2 red spots that looked like lipstick. I grabbed my napkin and was able to remove part of the lipstick. So yeah. I was served soup with a dirty spoon. I didnt say anything until my bento plate was on my table. My Sushi Bento Plate came with shrimp and vegetable tempura which was way over cooked. That Salad had a very odd taste. Kinda like it had a zing to it. Not a normal Japanese Salad. Lettuce was still stuck together and the dressing was only on half of the salad which I only had a couple of pieces. Since I was served soup with a dirty spoon. I was very critical on anything else I was gonna eat. The dish had a odd taste that left my lips tingling for a couple of hours after eating. I tried a piece of my wifes short ribs and it was so dry. It was like eating beef jerky. My wife said her rice that was served with her ribs was cold. Like it was sitting from the morning. And being Japanese and having rice almoat everyday. You know what rice taste lije freshly made and what it taste like the next day. I even asked my wife if it tastes like sushi rice and she said no. I'm wondering if they pre assemble the bento plates and just add the main dish when ordered. I was very surprised on the lady that waited on us. Very Attentive Worker and Very Apologetic. read more

We were visiting from out of town and desperately in need of some sushi terapy and after some heavy yelping, discovered that Colorado Springs doesn't have a whole lotta options. I found mixed reviews on Tomo Sushu and decided to give it a try and wait the requisite 2 days in case I got sick to review :) It was a little weird walking into what used to be the Black Bear Cafe years ago (and is still decorated as such- logs, fireplace etc) and being served Japanese food.Side note--apparently the Black Bear still exists next door, it was just cut in half and is under new ownership. I used to love their chicken salad croissant....no longer exists, sad. I felt like the prices were great, I don't know what others are complaining about. Under the "popular roll" menu the rolls range from $4 to around $8. That's happy hour prices where I live. We got the eel roll and the crab asparagus off that menu and since it was so inexpensive decided to splurge on the Temptor roll, which was $11.95. First came out the Miso, which I was not thrilled by. The first few sips were good but quickly it became overwhelming. The broth had a swirly brothy iridescence to it and reminded me a lot of the time I had an ion foot cleanse, which is a completely different and disgusting story. The chunks of tofu were so itty bitty that I almost couldn't scoop them into the ladle, I felt like I was chasing them down. We didn't have to wait long at all on a Saturday afternoon at lunch time, our rolls came out pretty quickly after the soup. The Eel roll was superb. It was exactly how an eel roll should taste. Great amount of seafood to rice, not too much eel sauce, wasn't overpoweringly sweet. Definitely my favorite roll at Tomo and I am starting to notice it is becoming my favorite in general. The crab asparagus roll was also delightful. It tasted very fresh and the asparagus had a nice crunch to it. It has some sort of orange spicy aioli type sauce over the top that was a perfect complement to the flavors. The Temptor was not so tempting after all. It was good but way too spicy. It only had a one star spicy rating which is normally fine with us. We like spicy. This was to the point that we were arguing over who had to eat the last few pieces because neither of us wanted them. I actually scooped the spicy tuna off the top and swallowed it whole in one gulp at one point because the rest of the roll was really yummy. For dessert we had green tea mochi. Again, we felt the pricing was great. The mochi was $3.95 where back home you would expect to pay at least $5.95 for the same serving. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and would definitely go back when I am in town again. read more

DO NOT eat at TOMO sushi in Colorado Springs. It is the worst! They charge you for things you don't order and then when you say your not going to pay for it they call the COPS on you!!!! WTH!!! Charged me for a California roll I did not order and when I said something they said I had to pay for it... um no I do not. They said if it hadn't been eaten that would be a different and they would be able to take it back... take it back where? To give to another customer? That is gross and also a health code violation. Idk why I came back here after they charged my card an additional $10 in tip on top of the tip I already gave.
