My DD loves the California crunch roll, Edamame, and miso soup. We walked in not knowing what to expect. The restaurant was clean, smelled great and very well kept. We ordered items we knew. I thought it was good the first time I went. There is too much rice on the nigiri. The miso soup and the fried foods were actually pretty great. But, you come for the sushi and it was very disappointing. Also, it seemed the waiter got in trouble for something because he mentioned that it's $2 freaking dollars for every sushi piece left and he stared at us until we finished the last bite of sushi to bring our check. Honestly, I'm conflicted writing this review. After reading all the positive reviews, I finally tried Umi this weekend and was left underwhelmed. While their dinner AYCE price is respectable, the variety and service was not. The menu (rolls in particular) are not as varied as other AYCE places in the city, and tasted ok. The nigiris were good size, but more rice than fish. The fish I've tried at other eateries is also fresher than what I tried at Umi. I'll give them points for having bulgogi, Katsu and other Asian sides as part of the AYCE. The tempuras I ordered were fresh and crunchy as well. Now, the service... while our server was courteous and sweet, their AYCE process does not have give diners a sheet on which we select what they want, instead the server takes your order every time and (hopefully, correctly) conveys it to the kitchen. Our nigiri order was delayed till course 3, and the rolls took forever to come out. I also felt that my table, and a few other tables around us were constantly waiting for the server to pay us attention so we could order or ask for utensils etc. The ambiance for weekend dinner-time was slow and lax. Overall, it was a lukewarm experience. Did I just show up on an off night? We'll never know. read more

We ordered six sushi rolls and the Korean fried chicken as an appetizer. The rolls were good, but the Korean fried chicken was terrible. It was mostly batter with very little actual chicken, and what chicken there was, tasted like thigh meat. The tiny amount of chicken definitely wasn't worth $13. If I decide to eat here again, I'll stick to ordering the sushi rolls only. read more

Quickly becoming a fan of this local sushi spot! Ordered Rainbow, Crazy Boy & Baked Salmon rolls. In addition to edamame & hot sake. All split between two people, all very tasty. Although I thought the edamame was pretty average. Left feeling the right kind of full - not stuffed, not hungry, with enough room to get dessert. Wait staff was kind & attentive. Had a 3 month old with us, and saw other tables with toddlers, so it's accommodating to kiddos. Definitely want to try the all you can eat menu next time. Decent sushi. Fair price on the $35 all-you-can-eat sushi option. The appetizers were very tasty. The special rolls were quite good. Service is helpful friendly and attentive. Ambiance is clean and fresh. Plenty of parking. I was seated quickly at 5pm but it did get busier after that. The booths are comfortable. I only wish the regular menu items were priced a bit lower, but if you come for the all you can eat option and plan to have 2 or 3 special rolls, the price ends up being worth it. Ok I have gone here 4 times at this point because I live close and like sushi. They need to fix their wait times for take out and dine in. I have not even come here on weekend nights. When sitting in, there was a bunch of time between when we ordered and got our food and they limit the time you are there for all you can eat. When ordering take out one time we had a larger order (6 rolls and 2 fried rice entrees). My friends had to wait ONE HOUR past the estimated completion time. That is not good at all. Another time I ordered take out it was only 2 sushi rolls. Super simple ones, Philly and California. I got the pleasure of waiting 30 minutes past the 40 minute estimated completion time. I'm done at this point. I can get the same sushi other places. I order out and dine in for convenience not for this. read more

We went for Valentine's Day dinner. The place was pretty busy, but people were coming and going quite quickly, so we were seated right away. Honestly, I should've known the service was going to be inadequate when it took someone atleast 30 minutes to come get our drink and food orders. We opted for the All You Can Eat Sushi, which had a 90 minute time limit, and they charge you for any food you don't finish. I came here for the nigiri, but I was disappointed. The fish pieces were very poorly cut and didn't seem very fresh. The tako was also very tough to eat. The chicken garage tasted good though, and my children enjoyed the tempura. So, with AYCE sushi, I expect the server to continuously come to retrieve our order to fulfill the "all you can eat" portion of our meal. The serve came only 3 times and each were about 30-40 minutes apart. That does not include the long wait times to receive our food. We ended up staying about 120 minutes instead of the 90 limit because the wait was so long in between our food orders. I'm sure that if had we not been waiting for our last order, they would've asked us to free up the table. In the end, we had only eaten about 3 small portions of food each, and spent most of our time with NO FOOD on our table. This is simply unacceptable. We wasted our time and money. And most importantly, we left hungry. I would NOT return and I would NOT recommend this establishment. read more

Would've like a little more portions for the price, but overall 4. The bad: the cooked meats came out cold to the touch. The teriyaki chicken was dry. The bulgogi was sour and old meet. The bad was so bad that it outweighed the good. I would recommend for sushi, however, the restaurant should not have items they should be ashamed for serving. We had a great time yesterday at Umi Sushi. I have two friends who highly recommended this place. We walked in (table of 6, including two kids). A bit of a commotion going on with our daughter but our server handled it with grace. Service was decent, and surprisingly there were 4-6 other tables at 2pm! Super clean environment and well lit. Will not be coming again due to the service and wait time!! 30+ mins of waiting for 6 pcs of Nigiri (that we did not get) while other people were getting orders!! Came on a Sunday afternoon/night and it wasn't busy but still had some tables filled. Opted in for the all you can eat since it is usually good here. However, when it came to our second round of sushi (only asked for 6 pcs of Nigiri) we WAITED FOR 30 MINS and decided that we wouldn't wait any longer and asked for the check. I usually am fine with wait times like 10-15 mins but when you can see other tables getting orders and pickup orders being made it starts to get annoying. Waiting 30 mins for 6 pieces of Nigiri is just unacceptable and ruined our appetite especially when the time limit is 90 mins. read more

Service was great but a little disappointed that every person at the table had to order AYCE. We had one person who wanted only a bento box and because of that we couldn't get AYCE.Their mile high roll was absolutely amazing! Very quiet and clean environment. We had mostly spicy tuna rolls and one white fish, can't recall the name. But so good!! Even my 12 and 6 year olds ate it up!!!! My 6 year old usually only eats Cali rolls.. well he devoured them and also loves the "boyfriend roll", a spicy tuna with fires shrimp and a jalapeños on top... :) With it being so close to Banning Lewis Ranch, we have found our NEW FAVORITE sushi spot!!! Decent food if you're looking to get your Asian fix. I got the lunch bento with chicken, beef, and tempura. The beef had quite a bit of very chew bits which was disappointing (-1). Chicken was very tender and flavorful and the tempura was properly crunchy and fried, very delicious. Other than my complaint about the beef I'd say that the price is a bit high. I paid $18.85 after taxes - almost 20 bucks for a casual Asian lunch is high in my opinion (-1). The fried rice was an okay amount and tasted pretty good but the house special teriyaki combo was about half what I would expect for $17 and it was only okay.
