Wanted to write this review about Sushi Row while it was fresh in my mind - we visited last night. We have wanted to visit for some time, and the stars aligned for a date night to Sushi Row. The ambiance is rad. You definitely feel like you're no longer in The Springs, which is great in a town where chain restaurants win "best of" awards. Service was a mixed bag. The friendliest people were the host and the runners. While our server/bartender just seemed aloof and too cool. Timing of courses and all that was good, aside from the temaki taco which came out much later. I almost thought they forgot. A strange service thing... bringing a new check every time you order something new. I've not experienced this before. Subconsciously I didn't love it. I was thinking about how the bill was stacking up vs just enjoying the time. The food... Happy hour all day Monday and 3:30-5:30 all the other days. Ordered two sushi rolls. A spicy tuna one and a tempura shrimp one. When they came out in my mind I was like "What?!" Very amateur hour looking. They weren't rolled tightly and were small in diameter. The spicy tuna, wasn't. You wouldn't have known there was shrimp in the shrimp roll other than a little, teeny tiny crispy shrimp tail sticking out. The pork belly bao buns were exceptionally boring. Kind of a played out app. These weren't executed well. Where the pork was crisp that was enjoyable but otherwise just a fatty-gummy mouth feel with no spice, heat or anything else to give the bun life. The temaki taco, specifically the recommended hot crab. The ingredients are wrapped in a sesame seed soy paper. It looked like a mini uncooked flauta. Just tasted like a unique tortilla filled with warm rice. My wife enjoyed her cocktail. I have no desire to go back. I don't feel like spending $25-45 for another sushi roll to see if their bougie rolls are any better. read more

Online, it showed no spots available, but I read a few reviews that mentioned they always have space, so I decided to walk in. According to other reviews, there were plenty of empty tables, and we secured one. They have a compact menu, so I was quick to place my order- Karaage Fried Chicken buns with Shrimp Tempura Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, and the Spicy Tuna Roll. The waitress was very polite, and the restaurant wasn't too busy, but it took (and I kept track of time) 50 MINUTES for our food to arrive!!! I think that wasn't excusable. A friend suggested this cool spot in downtown Colorado Springs last night, and it was awesome! Not your traditional sushi place, and a welcome break from it! There aren't the typical 30+ combo rolls, just a select few, and regular sushi/sashimi, which was excellent! I'd love a roll with cucumber outside, but our waitress had never heard of such a thing, so not sure if they can or will make it possibly? The staff was very nice and the place was packed, great outdoor dining area too! Loved the brick walls at the bar and the lighting -- made for an intimate date night spot. Pretty extensive menu with a variety of items. Friendly service. My Japanese Old Fashioned was nice and smooth, if a tad lacking in 'bite.' It also lacked garnish -- no orange twist, no luxardo cherry, etc. Cons: we tried the crispy rice. It was an order with 4 pieces, half with tuna while the other half was salmon. Though the fish was fine, the rice itself was VERY HARD. TOO CRUNCHY. Spicy tuna or spicy salmon on crispy rice is pretty popular on many sushi menus in cities like LA or NYC, etc. I've had my fair share of this well-known appetizer. NONE of them have ever been as disturbingly CRISPY as the ones here. No rice should ever be this hard that it makes it difficult and rather unenjoyable to consume. This was a very trendy and clean sushi restaurant that I'd recommend making reservations during the busier dinner hours. We came here in the early afternoon for their happy hour. We tried pretty much everything including their sake, salmon and spicy tuna sushi rolls, salmon nigiri, and sushi tacos. All of which were pretty decent, but nothing to write home about. Everything was also on the pricier end. I loved the wooden decor, as well as the friendly staff. My only complaint was that they charged us a credit card usage fee. We even asked if we used debit would it still charge and they said yes, any card. This is truly getting out of hand, in my opinion. Probably the best sushi spot in Colorado Springs. The nigiri was fresh, the miso was one of the best I've had, and the temaki tacos were a great combination of a variety of ingredients that made a stunning dish. We also went during happy hour so the meal was fairly cheap for high quality sushi. The miso soup was a stand out for me. I love the whole mushrooms and the large block of tofu. The mushrooms made the soup so rich and would absolutely recommend you order. The nigiri we had was all very delicious. The tuna was a surprise stand out item. While I thought the toro was delicious it was only marginally better than the regular tuna. The yellowtail and amberjack were also favorites of mine. The temaki tacos were one of my favorite items due to the combination of items on the tacos. We had the spicy yellowtail and the spicy tuna + shrimp tempura tacos which were fantastic. The major issue with them is they are hard to bite through. The seaweed "shell" is not easy to bite and makes for a difficult eating experience. Other than that this would be a perfect dish. We had a spicy yellowtail roll which was a simple and tasty. The tables were fairly close together so it makes for a cozy atmosphere and the servers were very attentive and came around on the regular. Came here for two separate times. The first time was take out and I got a half salmon and half tuna poke bowl for lunch. The portion size was a good amount and everything i.e seaweed salon, the cucumber, pickled radish etc was well flavored. The fish was very fresh and it melt in your mouth. He was talking to himself and it made us very uncomfortable so we asked to move to the bar. We moved and continued eating when we were approached by a man who worked there and he asked us why we asked to move (like we were being grilled by the police). We told him that we were uncomfortable because the guy next to us was fidgeting and talking to himself. Then he just says ok and walks away. No apology. No comped food. Nothing. Such a fun experience last night on our double date. The restaurant is gorgeous! The staff is so much fun and incredibly friendly. The food is absolutely delicious. The only reason I gave it 4 stars versus 5 is their prices. I'm willing to pay for good food, but $11 for a few pieces of a basic (albeit still tasty) avocado roll is a bit much. Food was good and the staff was excellent but we asked for a table for four adults and an infant and were given a table behind the hostess desk for only four. There was no space for the infant's carrier or infant. Regardless of the infant, the space was so tight I couldn't relax and was bumped into by the well meaning hostess often bumped into my chair.
