My girlfriend and I always stop by here whenever we are craving katsu, and they never disappoint. Our order is always the same: Takoyaki to start, cheese katsu for me, fish katsu for her. The pieces of octopus was small and not overwhelming with texture. The gyoza was okay but seems they fried it just a few mins extra as it was a little tough. The croquette was good. We just tried this restaurant over the weekend to celebrate our friend's birthday. We didn't know what to expect, and the 'yelp warning' did put us on a defensive edge. We started off by ordering some gyoza, croquettes and takoyaki. I ordered the katsu and udon combo, while others had the ramen, curry karaage or curry katsu. The gyoza was overly fried (not the typical pan-fried and steamed) and kind of one-note. The takoyaki was hot and soft, but should have had more octopus in it. The croquettes were the best option of the three appetizers, as the mashed potato inside was well done. Our main courses were pretty large, and none of us walked away hungry. I ordered the pork tenderloin (tonkatsu) combination, which was served with a small bowl of udon. The dashi broth in the udon was pleasantly salty, although the noodles themselves were a bit overcooked. The katsu was actually pretty tender and crispy, which was well paired with the tangy tamarind-like sauce (unlike other katsu sauces I've had), and accompanying pickles were delightful. I was really excited to try out this place after finding it on Yelp. They seem to specialize in ramen and katsu but had many other options (curry rice, udon, rice bowls). I went with a group of 5 on Saturday night and we were seated promptly. Upon walking in, I was struck by the ambiance of this place -- could imagine myself in Japan. The dimmed lights make the place feel homely, and my group was seated in our own little corner. I ordered the Cheese Katsu. Definitely enjoyed trying it! Think of a mozzarella stick surrounded by meat instead of dough. It had the perfect crunch without being overly fried. AND it was filled with gooey, cheesy goodness. However, I was confused why my portion was smaller than my friend's Pork Loin Katsu especially when the Cheese one is the more expensive one. I was still full at the end of my meal though and would recommend the dish but personally wouldn't order it again. My biggest gripe is that our orders did not come out together and the appetizer (takoyaki) came out with our meals instead of beforehand. This created the awkwardness of some of us eating first versus letting our meals get cold as we waited for everyone's. Not too oily and great amount of ramen and seafood (clams, squid, shrimp)! Like the other businesses in the area, this is Korean-owned. Although lacking the meticulous artistry of true Japanese cuisine, the kitchen offers meals that are still hearty and tasty. I went classic and tried the pork loin katsu. It was yum and crunchy and met expectations but wasn't too remarkable. There were plenty of sides, and I had leftovers for the next day's lunch, so that made it feel more worth it. Another local option for katsu, and I've yet to try the ramen. My vegetarian friend ordered the vegetable ramen and requested for it to be spicy. I've had tonkatsu at a couple of places before but this place is the best so far. The outer layer was so crunchy, there was a pleasant garlicky taste to the meat and the inside was tender and juicy!! I love the tonkatsu sauce that came with it. The dressing on the slaw was the bomb too!! My husband ordered the Super Spicy Ramen (I think that's what it was called). It came with veggies and pork. The broth wasn't spicy enough for my husband but it was the right spiciness for me. The broth was flavorful, wasn't super rich which I really likey :) I like the decor inside. We came on a very cold day and they sat us near the door. Therefore whenever people comes in and out we were shaking, thankfully the food came out hot. In terms of presentation and service, everything was super nice! All my friends have been raging about their cheese katsu but in my opinion it was quite bland. My boyfriend really like the rice bowl because it came with chunky pieces of squid. The ramen tasted decent, wasn't bad but there was nothing good to say about it either. We also order the crab cream croquettes, I honestly liked it over the other dishes. It was filled with crab cream and the texture was soft and crunchy. I see Dallas Korean town keep improving, and the opening of this new Japanese style restaurant at Carrollton Korean town seems to be the proof of that. I have been tried several donkatsu and Japanese style ramen all around the places, and the Japanese ramen here matches the qualities of some of best ramen restaurants in Dallas downtown area. And the donkatsu is the best one I tried so far around Dallas area and even surpasses the ones I tried at Mitsuwa food court in Plano, Texas. Donkatu is very crispy outside and the soft meat inside, which is exactly what you need for good donkatsu. The ramen soup is delicious with enough ingredients to make your mouth eagering for more. I was walking around the strip mall and saw a new place opened up so I had to drop by. I got the Katsu and Spicy Seafood Ramen and it was really good. The pork katsu was nice and juicy and the outside had a great crunchy, light layer. It went great with beer. The Spicy Seafood Ramen was a bit different from the Jjampongtang you eat at in korean restaurants. This one had a heavier body yet the noodles were light but al dente. Really enjoyed my meal and definitely would come back to eat here when I visit Dallas once more. However, to every review, there should be a con...the servers are green but not bad that'll affect the stars...definitely a place i'll recommend to friends. The shrimp Katsu udon was taaaaaaaaasty, though. Really really recommend. The cheese katsu requires some air frying or oven-ing if you're ordering delivery, but it's absolutely delicious. I normally wait a few months after a restaurant opens before I visit. But I have been waiting for this restaurant to open. So when I heard about the soft opening date, I had to go in.
