Pretty good Japanese restaurant with solid bento box options! I got the chicken karaage bento box for $16 and it had good portions and tasted great! I wished the chicken was more crispy, but it tasted good nonetheless. You order through a table kiosk, and it's cashless. I didn't wait long for my food to be prepared (5-10 minutes). The restaurant is clean and quite spacious. The reason I rated it 4 out of 5 is bc there were tables with foods and plates that weren't cleaned up more than 10 minutes after the customers left. I didn't see the servers or any employee walking and checking on the customers or clearing tables close to when I finished eating. TLDR: Food is great, good price, and would definitely come again, but I think Abe needs more employees. read more

The food was delicious! We went in during a busy time but they were able to accommodate a seating for us. It's pretty much self-order/service here other than the workers coming to bring out your food. The menu is pretty extensive and diverse. I had the kimchi cheese katsu and it was really crispy with a perfect amount of kick from the kimchi. The soba was really delicious too, the noodles had just the right amount of chewiness. Always my go-to for kimchi cheese katsu ($16)! The meat was a bit tough this time but I guess it can be a hit or miss. The kakuni ekiben ($16) came with so much rice underneath in their rectangular wooden boxes with 6 pork belly slices. We obviously ended up wasting half of the rice. Solid Japanese spot! We got there right before the dinner rush but it does get packed. Edamame ($4) was perfectly salted and portion. The abe udon ($8) was a tad salty but over wise great! The curry katsu don ($13) was huge! The katsu was so flakey but the curry was lacking a bit. If it had more veggies I think it would be perfect. Service was quick and clean! Was craving soba noodles and found this spot while searching online. The food did not disappoint and were left with great thoughts about the place! My boyfriend and I got there around 3-4 PM so there was barely any people and the service was quick and attentive. So I will list the foods what we both ranked from top to bottom: 1) Soba noodles were definitely up there. The noodles were perfect and the sauce was full of flavor by itself and putting the additional ingredients in. We were very impressed by this dish and will definitely come back for this again. 2) Fried calamari legs: always a fan of a good calamari! Breading was good. 3) Kakuni don: pork belly tasted delicious! My boyfriend would've liked it more if it had veggies but I usually prefer my don without it. 4) Cheese Katsu: the Katsu was okay but it was actually the salad that stole the show on the dish. The cabbage was nice and crunchy while the sauce really made it delicious. The only thing that threw me off was to pay and provide tip right when we're ordering on the tablet. This was such a unique dining experience. It is so fun to try new things! This is a great Japanese comfort food restaurant in Carrollton that is located in a shopping center with predominantly Asian restaurants. You could enjoy a different restaurant everyday in this area and it would take quite some time to exhaust them all. The decor is minimalist and very clean. The tables are pretty large and would fit multiple items or large bento boxes and not be crowded. We ordered unsweetened ice tea and it is freshly brewed which was appreciated. We started out with the Sunomono (cucumber salad with vinaigrette dressing and shredded crab.) This was such a delicious, light and refreshing appetizer that I would definitely get again. For our entrees we ordered the Unagi Ekiben containing grilled fresh water eel with Japanese style side dishes over rice. The Ekiben was served with shrimp tempura, miso soup, and side salad. I rarely eat tempura but the shrimp was absolutely delish dipped in the vinaigrette that was in the cucumber salad. Wow! It was a flavor explosion and perfectly crispy. The eel combined with the Japanese fresh pickles was an abolute umami bomb and I loved it. It was fantastic. My husband ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box and enjoyed (that tempura yam!) although the chicken was a touch dry and he said he would probably order the eel next. The menu has so many nice choices that it was difficult to make a decision! Oh well! I guess I better go again some day and try some more of Abe's delicious morsels! The place was nicely lit and there was plenty of seating. My husband and I were not satisfied with our dinner elsewhere so we decided to come to Abe and it definitely satisfied us. We got the curry katsu and it was perfect! It topped off our night. We also got this beef hotpot sukiyaki that we didn't enjoy as much as it was a bit on the sweeter side. It wasn't bad but it just didn't suit our taste at the time. I really liked the agadashi tofu! That was also very perfect. Service was friendly but our food did take quite a bit to come out. My first time having an actual japanese meal, not including pure sushi lol. I was craving some cheese katsu after seeing it on my feed and this place def did not disappoint. Me and my cousin went on a sunday night and there wasn't very many people in there. The vibes inside were nice and dim, and I enjoyed the wooden seats they have as well. You order yourselves on a ipad, but the service was still great, and our waitress made sure we had everything we needed when food was coming. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to start. The gyozas were nice and crispy, haven't had one like that before. The takoyaki had lots of flavor and satisfying mouth feel. I didn't know fried tamago was a thing but decided to order it since i love tamago sushi, and it was good but i'd prefer it on its own without it being fried for the pungent sweet flavor. My favorite was the kakuni pork belly, so soft and barely need to chew; SOO GOOD. For the rolls, they were great, rice was soft and were good quality. The rolls are also very large so keep that in mind. The rainbow roll was personally my favorite but the unagi was good as well. Me and my cousin shared a kimchi cheese katsu and a curry katsu (pork loin). There was definitely a cheese pull on the cheese katsu and was very crispy. The sauce it comes with pairs nicely as well. The curry katsu was also great and the curry was spectacular, ate pretty much all of it with the side rice lol. My cousins said the soba noodles and Abe steak were good as well. Went with a couple of friends and shared a couple of items including the sukiyaki, kimchi chicken katsu, and takoyaki. Everything was delicious. The kimchi chicken katsu was thick and juicy with a nice crisp fried coating with kimchi underneath the coating. The sourness of the kimchi offset the fried-ness of the chicken well and the portion size was large. The takoyaki was good, with a gentle crisp and a not a lot of sauce. The sukiyaki was so big that we struggled. It was delicious though, with a good mix of vegetables and meat, plus a raw egg for dipping. The meat was thicker than anticipated and a little tougher, but I think I was expecting more thin and fatty slices like Shabu Shabu. Overall, a great meal with leftovers to spare. Pricing was good for three people, portions were great, and service was good. Ordering is a self-kiosk. FOOD Tempura - Tempura was super crunchy and yummy. It came with an assortment of fried foods including Jalapenos, Sweet Potato, Shrimp, Onion, etc. Very very light on the breading which made this dish divine. Udon - Light broth and great noodle texture! Very yummy! Beef Sukiyaki - Comes out on the stove for you to cook. The beef was fresh and good. Because it's on the stove, it comes steaming hot. Enoki mushrooms were fire, especially when soaked in the beef broth. It also comes with egg yolk on the side for you to dip which adds a bit extra flavor. I got udon on the side which was super yummy with the broth. Chewy and great consistency with the noodles. Lowkey the broth was to die for. Loved it so much! Spicy Chicken Yakisoba - All I can say is that this dish was pretty spicy for me so I did not eat much of it. My family really enjoyed the spiciness and the pan-fried flavor. Volcano Roll - The Volcano Roll was spicy and had fresh crab. It was topped with scallops. Sauce came in generous portions which added to the flavor of the rice around the sushi! Creamy and good overall. VIBES Very modern type of vibes. The seating is all wooden tables with shared benches as well as wooden booths. It was pretty casual. I came on a Sunday during lunch and there were lots of families so it was a bit on the louder end with all the kids. One this I really liked was that the tables are super large and spacious which give plenty of room for food! I was craving katsu curry and ordered via Uber Eats- unfortunately after receiving my order, I discovered they had forgotten the curry. I ordered the katsu curry bento (which turned out to just be katsu bento). The portion size was average and the pork katsu was good but lacked flavor on its own. The bento came with 3 pieces of tempura, 3 pieces of sushi, white rice, and salad. The packaging could have been better (my side of udon spilled all over the inside of the bag). Ultimately, my meal was incomplete and I feel like I wasted $25. I rarely treat myself by getting food delivered, so this would have been a special treat. I was expecting to have my craving satisfied, so it was not worth the extra money to have it delivered. Made eye contact with the workers and none of them approached us not even to say they aren't seating anyone anymore or anything so we left. I came back with some friends and had a much better experience with other items on their menu. We ordered the beef sukiyaki hotpot, okonomiyaki, fried kalbi, curry katsu, Takoyaki, and a side of udon. The sukiyaki had really flavorful broth and was mixed with lots of cabbage and various mushrooms. They provide raw egg yolk in soy sauce to dip the meat in if you choose to, it provides a more sour taste. Make sure to turn the heat down later or don't take too long to eat either, some of our last pieces of beef got too tough over time. The okonomiyaki is like a Takoyaki but in a pancake style with grilled veggies and seafood. It fell apart easily, giving a soft yet crunchy texture with savory taste. I really enjoyed their fried pork kalbi, it is tender yet has a good crunch. They provide pickled radishes on the side as well as a spicy mayo sauce that was actually spicy but not too much that it took away from the flavor. The curry katsu was also pretty good.
