Best katsu in the DFW area! I've frequented this place pre-covid and now. The way that they have handled the current situation is commendable. When dining in covid-time, the staff enforced strict 50% capacity and sat us 6 feet apart. They have a takeout station by the door where the customers wait for the staff to bring the food. Although I tried to limit exposure to the outside world, I couldn't resist ordering some katsu for takeout. I was really craving the pork katsu since no one can compare. My airfryer can't do it justice. Their take out was packaged very well with a bento styled to-go box. The food was still hot when we got home which is about a 20 minute drive. Impressive! Although I know it's inevitable for takeout to get room temp, it's still nice to be able to eat it right when you get home. Top 3: Pork loin katsu $11.50 Super juicy, tender and crispy with enough pieces to feed a very hungry yelper or share with someone! Honestly, this is such a great deal. I came here for lunch and wanted to get either ramen or curry. I had had curry the day before so I decided to go for one of their ramen dishes. Kurobuta Super Spicy Ramen: tonkotsu broth, bean sprout, pork, onion, mushroom, carrot, fish cake, green onion. The ramen came out in a reasonable manner and they were not lying when they said that it was super spicy. It was more of a douse of Sriracha-type sauce and the heat kept multiplying rather than it being full of spices. I feel like they kinda cheapened out on some of the ingredients, because when it first came it didn't really all that great. Their broth is just alright; nothing too special with it. Ramen itself was sturdy and thin and aplenty though, so they do give you a lot of materials! Their service here is decent. This place was pretty happening during lunch, which was a bit surprising since it's in a relative nondescript area of the Hmart plaza. But it's busy with good reason as they have a lot of comfort food at its finest. The food here is satisfying and the serving sizes are definitely plentiful - there is zero chance you will leave hungry no matter what you order. The ramen broth here is on the lighter side - my wife got the Nagasaki which has a tonkotsu base but tasted more like seafood, which is probably good given it is a seafood ramen. Wavy noodles soak up the broth well and its deliciously light overall. As for myself, I could not help but try the cheese katsu - haven't seen that anywhere else and I keep hearing about how cheese + anything is a super popular pairing in Korea. Perhaps rich fatty melted cheese with deep fried pork is caloric overkill, but I guarantee you it's darn delicious. Juicy katsu smothered in a stringy mozarella cheese cup is awesome contrasted with a crisp panko crust. You'll need the rice and the sauce to help cut through the richness, but its worth every bite. The slaw is good too - but think I would prefer a more acidic vinegrette style dressing to help alleviate the richness instead of the mayo based one we got. My bf and my favorite ramen place! We literally come here almost weekly. I don't think the ramen is necessarily the most traditional in terms of authentic Japanese flavors, but I love the flavors, toppings, portions, consistency, and service! I used to get the regular spicy tonkotsu ramen which has good pork broth and a little kick, but I wanted something spicier so I get the super spicy tonkotsu and ask for them to make it slightly less spicy and they deliver everytime! My bf gets the super spicy seafood one and we love both. I really appreciate that they don't skimp on the toppings or portion size at all compared to normal ramen places that charge you like $15 for literally noodles, broth and an egg or something basic like that. They always give plenty of seafood and pork along with variety of veggies in both of our ramen. The broth reminds me of the korean spicy seafood noodle soup (jjamppong). We've also tried the upon, katsu, takoyaki, and curry here and they're all pretty good in my opinion but my go to is the spicy ramen. I really like that they're consistent so I know what to expect every time and they keep us coming back for more! Brought friends here and they loved it too. I came by here after an exhausting study session at a nearby cafe and was craving anything. It's set up pretty convenient, the napkins and utensils are all available in the drawer that's in the table. As a very clumsy person who has dropped their chopsticks many times, I like not bothering people to get me a new chopstick so yes the table is a win. I love Kurobuta!! It's my go-to lunch spot whenever I'm in Carrollton with friends. The service is always prompt, and the food stays constantly being bomb! So first thing about ramen places for me is that I am not the biggest tonkatsu ramen fan just because I have had such bad experiences with some and they are too salty for my taste. I have found a couple places that had pretty good tonkatsu ramen and so I am lightening up a bit. Coming in, I was disappointed because they didnt have any shoyu ramen options. The ramen here seems very fusion like and sounds kind of werid at first. Also the resturant is a lot smaller than you think and the tables seem pretty cramped together making the place really packed. I looked at some pictures and thought the donkatsu looked pretty good and crispy so I got one of those, a tonkatsu ramen since no shoyu, and a spicy seafood ramen for the heck of it. I loved the way the donkatsu was fried but the meat was slightly bland and tough and they gave too little donkatsu dipping sauce on the side. The pieces of donkatsu were big and the dipping side too small. It was a little tough to eat. The tonkatsu ramen was good but very different than most places I have tried. The broth was so white.. it almost looked fake or like they added striaght up milk. It was.. interesting in a good way. Not salty at all and very easy to eat. Only disappointing is the noodles is very thin and I like the chewy wider noodles in my ramen. There is no option for any other types of noodles and so if your a big noodle person like me, you may not be completely satisfied. Lastly the spicy seafood ramen is pretty spicy so if you can't handel heat beware. I got the mild flavor and it still had a kick that makes you need to cough and lips burn a little. The ramen it self didn't remind me of ramen at all but more of this Korean Chinese fusion dish called Jjamppong. It tasted like that and was good but to me not ramen haha. I think the prices are pretty high but the quantity of the food is on the bigger side so it evens out. They also have a bomb ass happy hour 50 percent off every drink making soju like 7 bucks! I would give this place a try and see for your self! It isn't my favorite ramen place but I do see my self coming here in the near future with some friends! read more

I love trying out the Asian food around the area over here since there's just so many high quality options, and this place was no exception. My parents and I were out for the weekend buying some ingredients and various other things, and we always stop out for lunch, and my dad suggested Kurobuta this time! Kurobuta definitely didn't disappoint. I got the Gyuudon, and shared the Croquettes, Takoyaki, and Cheese Katsu. The gyuudon was much better than I expected, and they put egg in it which isn't normal for gyuudon but tasted amazing. The croquettes were my second favorite thing here by a long shot, they were soft and fluffy on the inside with a great flavor and a crunchy exterior. The Takoyaki were... well, they were Takoyaki. I have a hard time finding varying flavors on that food since most of them in the area taste relatively the same. The Cheese Katsu was my least favorite because, at first I was amazed because of how nice the cheese pull was, but the flavor just wasn't there. Okay okay I'll let y'all know about one of my current favorite places to grab a meal. Whenever I am in the mood for katsu or curry, I have to go to Kurobuta to get their Curry Rice with Pork Loin Katsu. It looks small but can hold quite a few people. The Curry Rice with Pork Loin Katsu does take about 15-20 to come out. But. It is so worth the wait. The Katsu is cooked perfectly and has the perfect crunchy outside. The curry is a really good balance of subtle spiciness. Sometimes I can eat the whole plate and other times I have delicious leftovers for another meal. Yay! A new restaurant serving two of my favorite dishes! Ramen AND Tonkatsu! Sadly, I think this place missed the mark for me. Food was just okay overall as a whole. Service was lacking. When our party walked in, no one was really there to immediately greet or seat us. I barely noticed we were being seated until someone in our party sat down. Seems they kind of just pointed at a table and we sat there. Menus and drinks didn't arrive in a timely manner, mind you it isn't a large restaurant. We had to ask for the menus after some waiting. Anyhow, after we finally had the opportunity to order, we also asked for two small bowls. Instead we got "one" plate that was dropped off and then the server just walked away. It wasn't what we needed nor the right quantity. When a customer has to get up and physically walk towards the back of the house to look for utensils and bowls, that's a problem, which is exactly what happened. I got up, walked to back and basically helped my self to the two bowls I asked for. Anyhow, the food: Donkotsu Ramen: The broth was okay, it wasn't bad. Toppings of bamboo, chashu, and eggs were executed well. Not bad and not spectacular in any way. It was good. The problem I had with this dish were the noodles. It wasn't ramen that I received. Ramen to me and most places I've had them throughout the world is a wheat based noodle that has a slight yellow color and chew to it. The noodles I received here were the white somen noodles (wheat based, but much thinner), with zero chew and a very different taste because it's stretched out with oil to make it thin. Not what I was expecting, wasn't bad, but definitely doesn't make the dish better with the noodle variation. Definitely can't say I really enjoyed what I received. Pork Loin Katsu: The katsu had an amazing and light breading that gave it a good exterior crunch while the pork was still juicy and not dry. One of the better katsu porks I've had in the area. This dish came with rice, a side of the katsu sauce, some citrus, sliced vegetables, and shredded cabbage. We opted to get a side of the curry, which I noticed they must've dropped in price during their short stint since opening. It had been reduced from $4 down to $2. They physically etched it out in pen and rewrote it. The drop in price seemed a very smart move as the bowl of curry, wasn't large enough to warrant a $4 cost. Other ramen establishments provide a better side of curry that includes rice or other side options at a lower cost. The curry wasn't bad, it's plain Japanese style curry with a bit of spice. I suppose as good as the Pork Loin Katsu dish was, it got overshadowed by the poor service and the ramen. I'm not quite sure, but I really wish I would've asked why some ramen dishes, seemed to be served ramen while others got somen noodles. I actually took a gander at other tables and it seemed like some tables had ramen, but depending on what you ordered, it seems some bowls got somen noodles. We rarely saw service for our table beyond the initial order, food/plate drop, and when we got our check (To which we literally had to call/signal across the restaurant to get). I'm bit sad and very disappointed that a new spot with reasonably good tonkatsu has such bad service. Prices seems standard, but under portioned when compared to other competitors.
