One of my favorite Korean spots in Carrollton! I've been craving cold noodles with this heat wave, so this hit the spot. We ordered the seafood pancake which I thought was good, but honestly didn't wow me. I wished it was a little crispier and more loaded. The spicy cold noodles with LA galbi, though? Delicious! The noodles were cold, refreshing, and packed with flavor, and the galbi was a great pairing. They also have free cups of broth which was delicious and such a nice touch. Bustling restaurant with plentiful seating. You order at the front, get a small buzzer, and when it buzzes, you go to the counter to pick up your food tray. Although it was mainly self serve, the staff handling everything were kind. It was a sufficient, fully-functional restaurant. LA Galbi was affordable (~$28 including tax) with generous portions. I was also offered a small ginger soup on the side, probably to help digest all that oil. LA Galbi was more on the wetter seasoning. It wasn't drenched in liquid, but there was a pool of sauce at the bottom. I don't mind it because it was well-seasoned but perhaps this tip is useful who prefers a more dry seasoning. read more

The bone broth!!!! That's all. Seriously though- there are so many options in this plaza, let alone the area. We came here to try the galbi and left with a new go to spot for when winter is coming. The bone broth is sooooo tasty and rich and you can keep getting refills in the corner! Especially good with the rice too. Place was order at the front, grab a buzzer, grab your food when it buzzes, and then have a seat and return your tray. Chopsticks and all that are in a lil drawer at the table. Wow--amazing food. I travel to Dallas often for work, and this spot is definitely getting bookmarked. I found this gem yesterday and had to come back today for round two. Yesterday I ordered the spicy cold noodles, and today I went with the LA galbi combo, which includes the spicy cold noodles with short ribs. The short ribs are served on a sizzling plate and were absolutely delicious. When you walk in, you place your order at the front, receive a buzzer, and then pick up your food cafeteria-style from the kitchen counter area once it's ready. Everything is self-serve, which is why they don't accept tips. The utensils are tucked away in a pull-out drawer on the side of the table--super cute. They also offer complimentary hot soup for dine-in guests that you can pour yourself at the water station. The food here is a solid 10/10. I'm from California, where we're not exactly lacking in amazing, authentic Korean food--especially in LA and the Bay Area (Santa Clara in particular). But I have to say, it's rare that a place makes me want to come back immediately the next day. Today I tried Hampyong Cold Noodles with my friends. I have had cold noodles before but out of all the places I've tried in DFW, this place is at the top. I like how their cold noodles are a bit thinner and easier to eat. The flavor of the sauce is also delicious. The la galbi was perfectly charred, tender, and juicy. To order here you place your order at the counter and then sit down anywhere. They are self service so you grab your own utensils and waters at the stations. This is a self-service style Korean restaurant. For those unfamiliar, you order, receive a buzzer, and pick up your food at the counter. Utensils, cold/hot water, napkins, scissors, and even complimentary soup (this soup was amazing with strong notes of ginger) are self-service. Tables have a little drawer with the basic utensils. As it became warmer, my friends and I decided on naengmyun or cold noodles! We all love spicy food, so we each tried a different spicy naengmyun: bibim (includes boiled pork), sokcho kodari (marinated dried pollack - fish), and hwe (raw fish). The wait for the food was not too long ~15min. The portions were huge, and each bowl came with pickled radish. I've had naengmyun many times, but this noodle was very very thin, making it difficult to eat and finish. We personally had to cut up ours with scissors. The flavors of the fish and pork were very good, complimenting the sweeter sauce. However, there just was not enough broth and instead too much sauce, overpowering the dish. It was too concentrated for my taste, rather than refreshing. Perhaps these dishes just were not for us. I would have preferred a noodle with more bite, more broth-less sauce, and colder noodles. I definitely will come back to try other parts of the menu. And maybe the mul naengmyun is more refreshing. read more

Nangmyun (냉면) is one of my favorite dishes no matter the season, and the noodles here are always chewy and the broth is flavorful. Mool naengmyun broth was very close to dongchimi guksoo Gilmok @ LA serves; a bit tad sweet but it could be an alternative if you'd be craving for that OG broth with no access to SoCal. Good LA galbi that you can confuse with wagyu, def can tell the Texan meat playing a big role in Korean beef dishes. Noodle itself was a bit disappointment, too much tapioca/sweet potato starch resembling almost glass noodle texture, minus one from there. Good dumplings - the fried ones were light and full flavored and they disappeared quickly. The interior itself feels old and claustrophobic with narrow alleys and table/chairs everywhere, especially that very first 'private' room was morbidly packed and hard to navigate. It's a pretty casual restaurant and was relatively empty at 7:30 PM on a weekday. You order your food near the entrance and you pick up your food at the counter, kind of like in a food court. They have super delicious, hot soup on tap that is light, savory, and just overall delightful. The pricing is reasonable and the portion sizes of the noodles especially are pretty generous. Hwe Naengmyun (3.75/5): The fish is marinated in a way that the texture was rather chewy, kind of like ceviche. The chewy noodle texture is fantastic, but personally I think the red sauce is a bit one note though. Mul Naengmyun (4.25/5): If you're going to get the naengmyun, I would recommend this one. You can enjoy the broth much more in this version, which manages to ride the line between sweet and savory. Dol Sam Kim (3.75/5): They skimped a little on the pork belly, but the flavors were all solid. My main complaint is that if you're ordering this, you probably want the crispy rice from the hot stone bowl, but the rice didn't really pick up that texture. Galbi Tang (4.25/5): A solid version of galbi tang. Good depth of flavor and you season it with salt yourself, like you're supposed to. Okay so as a first timer it was a bit confusing. It's a self service place. We weren't greeted or helped so knowing what to do was confusing. Once you go in there's a counter to your left. You look at the menu there and then place an order. They will give you a buzzer and you find your own seat. Once seated you will see another section for when your buzzer activates... that's where you would pick up what you ordered. There's a broth section which is complimentary and hot. Which has no limits. You can also get your own water at their refill stations. The utensils are also located there as well as the tables you chose to sit at (located on the side like a drawer). After getting the hang of the restaurant placement we patiently waited for our buzzer. Mul nyangmyun: cold refreshing with a slightly thinner noodles that I am used to. Added some mustard and vinegar to taste and it was quite enjoyable. The potato pancake isn't my favorite as it seemed stale and extremely dry from what I am used to. Hwe nyangmyun: nice and flavorful but felt like it was missing something. The Hwe itself was very delicious and tender. Purely based on the food, 5 stars. Both mul and bibim naeng myun hit the spot. They make their own naeng myun (which is harder to find now) and the mul yuksu was the OG style that I grew up with before my family went with convenience (store bought broth that tends to be more tangy). I typically have a hard time calling out good bibim naeng myuns as I have yet to find one better than my mom's (I do admit she makes it with pre-made/store bought noodles). When I tried the hae bibim, it was just as good as my mom's, I was really surprised and totally recommend this place to anyone in or swinging by Dallas. Ps, I have an aunt who is super critical of Korean food and this place got her stamp of approval. My family also tried the dontaksu, which they make it OG with curry w/ketchup, steamed and fried mandoo (this was okay), and pajun. This place is all about the naeng myun.
