i was looking for a japanese thick tonkatsu place and found this place. this was a surprise find. i had thought this was the katsu chain I frequent in Taiwan. But, I don't think so, this is ramen. i order the #1 tonkatsu ramen and with pork tonkatsu combo for about 20 the ramen white soup base is the first time I had this. very good the katsu was fat and very good as well. i finished everything including the cabbage. in addition, i think the 2 piece of pork in the ramen is bacon or pork belly. very generous thick slices as well. total with 20% tip is about $25. very good! read more

PLEASE READ TILL THE END. This rating is based solely on my dish: Beef Yakiniku Curry Rice. The portion had a good amount of beef and was very flavorful. The beef was thinly sliced, not greasy, and paired well with the curry. It also came with pickled radish on the side, which helped cleanse the palate. Nothing too crazy, but definitely fun to eat. The server was friendly and very mindful of allergies. I loved that the utensils are kept in a small drawer by the table, clean and doesn't take up space. HOWEVER... let me spill the tea. The rest of my party (3 other people) absolutely HATED their dishes. I have an egg allergy, so I couldn't try their katsu or ramen, which I found a bit surprising, since most ramen places I've been to don't use eggs in the noodles themselves. I was torn because I genuinely enjoyed my dish, but considering this is primarily a ramen shop, I feel obligated to share their experience. The service is top notch, warm and friendly! In fact, our waitress, skipped the tipping part of the transaction since our order was to go. I tipped anyway! We ordered the vegetable ramen and the beef yakiniku ramen and made them combination orders for a small amount more with added cheese katsu and chicken katsu with the most delicious sauces. The noodles are not the traditional wheat ramen noodles, they're egg noodles like Chinese noodles. Chasu pork is very chewy. The egg is ajitama, not marinated egg but just a plain boiled egg. The broth is oddly white, super bland, and tastes like hot milk. Pork tender loin katsu is supposed to be juicy and crispy. It has the crispiness from the batter but the meat is very bland. The gravy has an odd flavor profile - the tartness and sweetness going two separate ways. Dressing on cabbage salad that comes with the katsu is tasteless thick liquid. Cheese katsu- portions were huge and I was really stuffed. The cheese was so gooey and tasty! Chicken katsu was nice and crispy. I got a side of curry and I'm glad I did as I don't like their sweet sauce that came with it. The curry sauce is a bit sweet and mild. If possible, I would prefer if they could omit the sugar as I really don't like sweet. Spicy tonkotsu ramen- super tasty! I think I like this slightly better than the cheese katsu but it was salty. Still, I enjoyed the bowl I actually rate this place 3.5/5. What I hope to see them improve on is cleanliness as I see lots of crumbs when I sat at my seat. I came on a Saturday for lunch with friends, and to start off the flavors of the dishes are definitely there. I got the curry rice with chicken katsu and it was delicious! My friends got ramen and they also had no complaints. My reason for it not being a 5 star is due to the insanely slow service, which is at no fault of the server as he was doing his best apparently taking care of most if not all the tables. My friend had asked for sriracha and she never got it. We ran out of water but no one came to check up on us to even let us ask for more. I had to flag down someone for us to pay. Overall the food is good, however I think they could improve on their staffing in front of house. Despite being fried, the inside was still moist and juicy. The lack of seasoning and the unsatisfactory dipping sauce made it unpalatable. I prefer the traditional katsu sauce. The salad's dressing was also excessively sweet. The rice was cooked perfectly. The restaurant is small and intimate. Had lunch here, it's a simplistic menu with something for everyone. Tip: Utensils & napkins are on a pull-out side drawer of your table, we didn't know until we asked. It's convenient though to have access to what you need versus waiting on someone to bring it. Edamame - a bit salty, they give you plenty! Salmon Steak Don - good portion size of salmon. Tonkotsu Ramen - egg was perfect, pork was good, & the noodles had that "snap" that we all like. The broth was good. The staff was nice & patient, often checking in with us, we spent quite some time there. The food wasn't cold, but it wasn't particularly hot. I was hoping the ramen would be a little warmer but it was so-so, they were semi-busy so I'm not sure if food getting to us played a factor but we felt it came out quickly. Each table has their own pitcher of water which also works out well, they were quick to bring more when ours was empty. Tables are a bit close together (the seating against the wall at least), you can hear the other tables conversion at just a casual level. It could be disruptive. I had the tonkotsu ramen - the pork was a little tough to bite through instead of the normal soft pork belly meant to be in tonkotsu but I did appreciate the char like taste it had like they grill it. The broth is very white like the reviews say but I don't think it was bland, it was smooth and just enough flavor to complement the rest of the ingredients. The noodles were also good and cooked just right I enjoyed that, but I was disappointed with the eggs. I ordered an extra eggs as I love a good ramen egg but these were not traditional ramen eggs rested in soy sauce it's just a normal soft boiled egg. First time here, we got the takoyaki, chicken katsu curry, and the spicy tonkotsu ramen. The takoyaki was delicious, it came out super hot and fresh, and was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. One of the best ones I have had! The chicken katsu itself was also good and crunchy, and the rice it came with was warm and soft. The curry was...interesting, it is a Japanese style curry but they added a lot of ketchup in the curry, giving a kind of tangy taste. I didn't really enjoy the curry part. On the other hand the spicy tonkotsu ramen was pretty good, with chewy noodles, a pretty rich broth, and the chasu was torched giving a great flavor! The only thing is the chasu is super thin, so there isn't too much in the ramen. Otherwise I really enjoyed this, and the portion was pretty good too! For the portion and price, I think the food is pretty good! I only didn't like their curry sauce that much. The service was quick and fast, and the interior is clean and well kept. We go here for the cheese tonkastsu and the curry sauce! I absolutely recommend the cheese tonkastsu here it's the best I've had loadeddd with cheese they are all end pieces so little boats of cheese. The first cheese tonkastsu that the cheesw don't feel as overly overwhelming- it has a nice milder taste. The curry sauce is a red curry and has a fruity(?) taste? Not like the Japanese "golden curry" taste. We have not gotten the ramen here so can not comment on that but the udons was not great. I personally did not like the udon's broth. Came back with some friends tonight and wanted to try just the tonkatsu. We had went to Japan over the summer and enjoyed some amazing tonkatsu. I was pleasantly surprised how much I love this. The breading was crispy, crunchy and tender. My tenderloin was warm hot, not piping hot and fresh. Our friend had the cheese katsu and his came out piping hot and looked like it just came out the fryer. So far this is the only location I have seen that came with some hot mustard (maybe horseradish). The katsu sauce was very good and it came with a cabbage salad and a bowl of rice. A gentleman by the name Baek? was extremely rude and I was disappointed in how I was treated as a customer, he kept muttering something under his breath but I was unable to make out what he was saying ... he seemed very upset about the fact that I asked to sit at a wider table while the restaurant was empty.. It had such a deep and rich charred flavor that I really wasn't expecting. The spice level was just right. However, I wish the meat had more flavor, the bamboo shoots had a tough texture (wish it was easier to chew) and I'm a sucker for the straight noodles vs the curly but that's personal preference. Fried squid was just okay VERY oily. Fries didn't look like the photos here on yelp; it was the crinkle kind and my friends said it tasted like frozen fries. Katsu don rice bowl was also just okay.
