Super excited and happy that I have a filipino restaurant 5 min away. I give this place 3 stars for now because they're new, nice, and have potential. So far I've tried the pork bbq, lumpia, pancit, turon, and halo halo. The portions are kind of small, so beware. The taste is fairly decent. The first few times I've gotten halo halo, they took 15 minutes to make it. I don't know why? It says they're open until 8pm, but they sometimes close before that. I think it would be a good idea to maybe do a buffet style some time in the future. Maybe offer it on the weekends? Just a suggestion. read more

I'm glad I didn't listen to the negative reviews. As a pessimistic pinay I am highly critical when it comes to trying Filipino food that is made from anyone other than my grandmother. Trust me when I say this their adobo is delicious. I'd say it even compares to my grandmother's adobo, dare I say better! The adobo has an excellent flavor and texture and my mom and I even had left overs! I loved that the adobo was cut into tiny bite pieces and it was so SOFT. I was reluctant to try the pork belly, because I'm not a huge fan of fat, but it had a lovely flavor and texture as well. On to the turon... It's not what I expected, but I ended up really enjoying it! It wasn't too sweet and I thought the ube sauce was a unique take to this iconic Filipino treat! The inside is also really clean, which is a huge plus! (No sticky gross floors, IFYKYK). To my fellow Filipino food lovers, brothers, and sisters give this place a chance. Happened to be next door when I saw this place near lunch time. It's a cute little family style restaurant. I have been craving lumpias for a while now, and didn't know where I could find some in modesto until now! It was my husbands first time eating Filipino food, and he was not disappointed ! Lacks customer service. The lady (manager) was nice but lacks professionalism. She was dressed like she had worked in the yard. There was a man in the back that was preparing food in the back and he had no hair net, apron or gloves. He did eventually slip on gloves. There's an opening for the customers to see the kitchen and it would have been better not to see that. He also itches his hair while back there with no gloves on. There was another small older man in the back that had a mask, hairnet, apron and gloves on so that was a plus. The manager should have made the other cool follow suit. The food is decent but the lumpia is super small and overcooked compared to other Filipino restaurants. The chicken adobo was good. Way over priced for bland flavorless food... $26 for 2 plate I threw in the trash. Portions were so small I thought they gave me a kids plate. I ordered halo-halo (a concoction of various sweet treats) and turon (sliced bananas coated with brown sugar rolled in a spring roll wrapper and fried). Halo-halo tasted too sweet and too milky. It was lacking ice cream and sweet treat ingredients. It is not the typical halo-halo I normally buy at any Filipino restaurants. Also the price is too high. The turon was very oily and the banana didn't taste fresh. Also, I asked the server, Daniel if I can take the menu with me for future order, he said, No. I thought that it was unsanitary because it was paper that multiple people touched before me. When they first open, I ate a BBQ chicken platter and the street fish/shrimp balls. The platter was decent and the fish balls was yummy, but I was disappointed at first. Then yesterday I tried them again and I was not disappointed. Their Kare Kare was so yummy and the sisig and palabok. I think it depends who is cooking the meal. I believe the owner was the main cook last night. She even went up to me and my guro, asked if we enjoyed our meal. We sure did. She is adorable with her cute apron. We had eight Asian visitors from N.Y., and Hawaii visit, so we decided to vary the foods they were being exposed to in Modesto by dining at Kusina. The service was great with one of the servers even doing a brief description of the dishes, plus once ordered, the wait was minimal considering our group. The food was right on, with the guests exchanging comments on the taste of the different dishes. One guest mentioned that it would have been nice to have had chopsticks available! Definitely going to bring more guests, and recommend the restaurant for more exposure, and support! read more

This place is a hit and miss. There are some food that was good and some are bad. Their crispy Pata and toron were amazing! The lechon not much, I ordered it to go. I lived about a few blocks from the restaurant, when I got home the lechon was already cold and chewy. The skin was the worst, not crispy at all. The seasoning was too strong especially the bay leaf. Sisig is always good and Turon was amazing. Another fave of mine is the vegetable lumpia. Finally a Filipino restaurant in Modesto. We fully support this new business and the owners are Filipino. Tatum is very pleasant - she's the owner and main chef and DP is helpful too every time I go there to pick up food. Hopefully people will give them a chance. I really hate to write this buhh maybe it'll help them improve. This was the worst, filipino restaurant I have ever been to. The young male server was terrible. Asked if we were ready to order without giving us menus. When are food arrived it was very white washed they also ran out of plates and served us with to go boxes lol. Sat for 45 min and got up and left 2 other people before me left as well then my family and I. We left with no food after 45 min plus of waiting.
