I am giving one star not because of the food taste but rather because of the unhygienic service. We went to celebrate my in law's birthday. There were eight of us. I ordered chicken banh mi (pic attached), it was pretty decent and above average. I have quite a bit of experience with Vietnamese food and this is a very decent banh mi for $8.99! Some other food items ordered in the table are noodles, crawfish combo, chicken rice combo, pork chop, shrimp and fries basket, chicken strip basket and spring rolls. Now first and foremost, I was a bit confused with finding chicken strips in a Vietnamese place, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad! I tried the "cajun" fries and it's pretty bland, not well seasoned. Kinda disappointed at this point as I love cajun fries! But again from a Vietnamese restaurant can't expect much cajun! And I don't like fusion stuff!! It's ridiculous! Still no justification for one star. The crawfish dish was very cold apparently so they won't coming out from the shell!! Kinda strange at this point, as a place whose name has crawfish in it should have better crawfish! So coming to the reason, my sister-in-law found a human hair (doesn't look like from head, yeah I know, double gross!) in her rice (deeply buried inside )! She was sitting opposite of me, so I have seen her trauma first hand. She lost appetite instantly, she was bit hesitant to make a deal out of this (which trust me I wouldn't have). But we left the place with giving generous tip to her waitress as the service of her was good even if there's hair in the food. The change in quality could possibly be due to a change in cooks, but overall the experience just isn't what it used to be. I didn't care for the meatballs but everything else had nice taste. My mother had the shrimp and fries, again leftovers. We also had a pound is shrimp that had us li king our fingers, they give you glove and a bib. Small place, minimal decor but the food and service was very good for a Saturday afternoon. Seemed as we were leaving a lot more diners were coming in. Will visit again when I am in Modesto. Odd location, I will say. My favorite dish here hands down is the garlic noodles with seafood combo. I have come here in the past just for that many times especially when I'm in the area because I live in Manteca. Friday, February 23, we commuted all the way from Tracy, but it was totally worth it. Fasting on Fridays and abstaining from meat as a Catholic during the Lenten season is not easy, but if you want a seafood spot to try out this is the place to go. Only downside is the service. There was only one waitress and thankfully my family of 3 beat the lunch crowd otherwise our wait may have been much longer. Abysmal of a place. GARLIC noodles, absolutely have never been more embarrassing. When the server brought it out, not a single whift of garlic was there. A third of the noodles were burnt, shrimp was overcooked and flavorless, I only tasted sugar and it was said it was sweet and savory, which I don't mind in garlic noodles but non of the savoriness was there, but this wasn't the worst part, there was no garlic present at all, not even a single centimeter of fresh garlic was present in the dish, it was just a plate of burnt with overly coated in butter and sugar noodles. the bahn mi lacked meat it was literally 2 thin slices as if it was a ham sandwich in middle school and had not Vietnamese butter or pate which is what makes a bahn mi, otherwise it's a hoagie. The pho was okay but I assume it was powdered pho broth which is hard to mess up. The crawfish "Cajun" boil was also only sweet forward, no type of spice or spices, hence it being Cajun... but seafoods and corn were properly cooked, nonetheless, flavorless and boring. The containers appear small but it actually isn't. The bowls are deep and can hold a great amount of food in it. The Cajun Seafood Combo 1 comes with 1/2 pound of crawfish, 1/2 pound of shrimp with head attached, 1/2 a corn, 2 sausages, 1 very large red potato, and your choice of either rice or bread for $25. Not a bad deal. I picked the house special Cajun butter sauce since it was their most popular. I couldn't really taste the butter because the Cajun flavors took over, but I wasn't complaining. I liked it. I thought it was very delicious. Again, don't let the meal in the to-go containers fool you for the small size. It is a good portion size. A lot of food, at least for us it was. Went here a couple of days ago and I enjoyed my experience! My family and I ordered pho. Before sitting, we ordered at the cash register. After that, we were quickly seated and our food came less than 15 minutes. Their quantities are huge! They give a lot of pho noodles and meat. The noodles were softer than what I'm used to, but I didn't mind it. Overall a solid place to get pho. I'll have to come back and try out their other stuff. I ordered the "Make Your Own Seafood Combo" with 1 lb of the peeled shrimp with extra potatoes and corn. I selected the House Special Cajun sauce with Medium as the spicy level. The sauce was just okay. I remembered the sauce being more flavorful in other visits. This time, it tasted a little bland and it was dissatisfying. I also ordered the Pork Garlic Noodles. The pork was extremely dry and the noodles tasted too sweet. Furthermore, I didn't like how the restaurant was being operated. For example, my mother asked one of the staff members for melted butter to put on her bread. The staff member came back with butter, but it was not melted. Then, she stated, "Oh, it will be a charge if you want your butter melted." I have never heard of a restaurant charging for heating up something. Are you serious? Not only that, we weren't offered any gloves or bibs. They used to do this. What happened? Finally, orders have to be taken at the front counter now. They can't be taken from the comfort of sitting at a table anymore. For spending between $50 - $60, I expect much more than this mediocrity.
