I've been living in the Lake Charles area for a little over 20 years now and last night was the first time I went to Ember. Everything about the place was amazing, from the steak we ordered to our server Ricky, and the mood of the restaurant with the lighting and light music playing just puts you at ease so you can enjoy the whole experience. Ricky as my waiter and Max as my server provided an exquisite and memorable dining experience. Ricky's long tenure with Ember coupled with his passion for exploring culinary experiences when traveling, allows him to provide valuable insight into the menu's offerings and, if prompted, will provide an informed recommendation catered to the guest's desires. Max had served my steak entree', but Ricky had passed along that he shared my young son's name. Max came back out later in the evening and we were able to have a memorable conversation over the choosing of that name and our families' histories. What I appreciated, is that no one sought to interrupt or insist that he resume his normal duties immediately. The relaxed state and recognition of a unique connection between the staff and a guest enhanced my view that Ember strives to provide a true dining Experience, not just dinner. Many restaurants may say they do, but few live those values with consistency. Last time we had a problem with the sirloin steak, so we ordered 2 $90 prime ribs to take home, thinking that a more expensive cut would be better. It isn't any better. Tough & fatty. It was a tragedy of errors. We were seated in a booth at the very back of the restaurant. I asked the hostess for some hot water & she brought me COLD tap water. Adding insult to injury, I had tipped her for seating us. Then, it doesn't get better. The same hostess now brings a family of 5 or 6 people with a young kid, and then when our appetizers came out the writer's helper gives the table woth the kid our appetizers, so I ordered the meatballs & the server tried to hurry them up. They were lukewarm. It looks like the last visit was orchestrated to make me stay away. It is the only half/decent restaurant at L'Auberge. read more

Upon arriving we were set by the fireplace while waiting on table. 45 minutes later I inquired why we had not been set at a table while many others that arrived after us were taken to tables. Apparently they canceled us instead of verifying us. we finally get seated at table and order. We get our meal served( filet mignon& lobster). The lobster was good,it was small because I had not had it before and just wanted to try it, the steak was the worst tasting steak I have had in my life,65 years old, I could only manage three bites,it was disgusting. my wife ate a little more than I did. It tasted as if the meat was spoiled!!! We actually went to our truck in parking lot and are some ritz crackers. The waiter was courteous and prompt. I would not recommend them to anyone read more

This place is delectable every time. The ambiance is very relaxing without feeling like you're in the dark. It allows you to carry a conversation and enjoy your meal in a warm and relaxing environment. My go to drink is the Charred Lemon Drop (but I do have to ask them to go light on the basil oil). It is an absolutely delicious drink. If you like crab and asparagus and order a steak, I highly suggest ordering it Oscar Style. It is the only way I will order my steaks here. The Shrimp and Grits appetizer is a whole other taste experience. It's that sauce that makes it amazing. I've gone three times in the last three months to Ember. The service, drinks, ambiance, and food were so wonderful and consistent, we decided to have a graduation dinner there for 8 people. Our tables were ready when we arrived, the staff were as attentive, our food was delicious, and everything came out on time. I do not recommend... This "steakhouse" served my husband a cold rare steak when we asked for medium rare and didn't seem apologetic when we brought it up. It was like a "yeah okay and?" The wait to sit wasn't long but the wait on service was excruciatingly extensive. A table next to us got their waters, orders taken and food served before us even though we had been seated first. We have been constantly waiting to be attended to whether it be for water, drink orders or to order our meal. We finished our meal around 9:15/9:20 and it's been over 20 minutes as I am writing this review where we still don't have our check, and no one has checked up on us. ....it is now 9:58 pm and we finally received our check, there was no discount for the extensive waits, or the under done and cold steak. Now lets see how long it takes to get our card back Overall an unenjoyable experience, I will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to anyone. read more

The atmosphere is always perfect from drinks in the bar to dining. All of the food we tried was spot on and delicious. They provide a fantastic consistency, always delivering on perfectly prepared filet, an amazing lobster bisque and exquisite accompaniments. I never leave disappointed. The menu lacks significant details. I will admit I should have asked more questions about it but didn't bother. Much to my dismay, I ordered the seafood pasta--evidently, I should have known the proteins included in this but alas, did not. I was annoyed to find out that it's mussels, squid and calamari when it was brought out. I am not one to complain about food to avoid retaliation so I just figured I'd eat around the seafood and get over it--it tasted like they just boiled all the seafood and pasta together and put it in a bowl along with the water it was boiled in. Needless to say, I was disappointed. My husband ordered the bacon-wrapped shrimp, zero mention in the menu that it is served on top of grits. He hates grits, as do I. He did his best to scrape them off the shrimp. I will at least say the drinks are good. Maybe this is what we get for going to a steakhouse and not ordering steak but with a price point as high as theirs, I would expect everything on the menu to be good. We visit Lake Charles often but won't be back here. read more

Great food, service, atmosphere and options. Everything was very good. The server was very attentive and made excellent suggestions. Next time, I am trying the wagyu beef, even though it is $40/ ounce with a 4 ounce minimum. The only negative I would put was that I ordered my steak medium rare and it was definitely medium to medium well. My wife ordered her steak rare and it was cooked the same as mine. But it was still very good. Dessert was good- we shared the vanilla crème brûlée. If I am honest, I just thought it was ok. My wife thought it was the best thing she had ever eaten. Definitely suggest it but would also put a caveat that they are not really suited for kids. Call first and make a reservation. I imagine they get packed at times. read more

Great food & companions if you get seated over near the fireplace. Everyone we met were really nice. Staff and people. Really good Halibut & their 20 oz ribeye. The garlic mash potatoes were really good as well as the bread and butter. Don't load up on carbs though...or else you won't finish your protein! I didn't care much for the Asparagus. It was a bit too salty for me. If it wasn't as salty it'd be perfect. It may just be me though. I don't cook with additional salt. I just cook with butter (that's already salty). Buttered asparagus would have been better for me. Loved it though! read more
