Ramen!! What's there not to like? We came during the period Kyuramen was giving unlimited refills of ramen. I could have gotten many refills but I was dining with my wife and kids, and only opted for 1 refill. I got the tonkatsu ramen with garlic which is my go to ramen. I have come to kyuramen countless times of the years and they always say theres a chance of winning free ramen or a free drink. Yeah right... I was very skeptical and always have been. When you finish your ramen and broth, you would check at the bottom of your bowl to see if you won or not. I have never won except this time!! When you tell the server, they'll give you a little voucher/card to be used in about 3 weeks time. The time period for redemption is a bit short, but it's better than nothing. It's been a minute since I visited NY so I came to try out this ramen chain that's been popping out everywhere around the country. I really liked attention that went into the decors at this place. There are Japanese wooden prayer cards hanging on the walls. Some seatings are encapsulated in honey comb-shaped panels. Everything was made out of wood from tables to chairs to napkin holders and condiment jars. For appetizers, we had the Japanese fried oyster and calamari. Both were delicious especially the oysters that were popping out in the middle. I got the Yin Yang ramen which apparently was inspired by the yin yang hot pot with split broths. I immediately took a liking to this novel idea since I did want to try two different broths. I believe the red spicy side was miso-based, while the white side was tonkotsu. I quite enjoyed the red side as it was flavorful. The tonkotsu broth was a bit underwhelming as I thought it was pretty bland tasting. I also wished that it was served warmer. What I got was a bit tepid. Not pictured: my friend got the same ramen but his piece of the pork belly consisted entirely of fat with no lean meat. That was a bit disappointing. One our family's go-to place for ramen cravings. My personal fave is the yin-yang bowl where you can get two kinds of ramen (one side is spicy and the other is not). I visited on a slow hour so it was nice and quiet. This The layout of this location is super cute. It features honey comb cubby's and has curtained seating available. Upon entering I was immediately greeted and guided to my seat. The waitress gave me the menu and showed me a button available at my table in which I can call her on or even scan a QR code to place my order. I was given a wet wipe to wipe my hands so I love that they prioritize cleanliness. The place itself is really clean. Decided to take a trip to my old stomping grounds in Bayside since it's been a long time that I've been back at Bell Boulevard. Found Kyuramen on Yelp and the reviews looked great. I decided to make reservations ahead of time since other reviewers had mentioned that the wait can be long at this restaurant. We were seated within a minute of arriving. The place looks awesome with the honeycomb seating layout. We both thought seating inside those booths was so cool. We were served very promptly after we were seated. The menu had a lot of different options, but most of the ramen either contained pork or were served in pork broth. My wife decided to order the Chicken Ramen and she kept asking me to try it since it was so good. That was a big mistake on her part because it was so flavorful and delicious that I couldn't put it down. But then I realized that I should also eat my dinner which was the Teriyaki Beef Rice Burger. This dish too was really good. The beef went perfectly with the rice buns. I decided to get the combo which came with a side of Purple Sweet Potato Fries and a Thai Iced Tea. Those fries were truly amazing. We also ordered Steam Chicken Bao Buns and Shrimp Tempura. Both of which we enjoyed. For dessert we had the Matcha Mille Crepe Cake and the Matcha Pudding. There is a doorway into tbaar for anyone who wants to order their drinks separately from Kyuuramen or grab while they wait. They have a little robot for delivery orders (takes it from the kitchen to the front!) The service was helpful and attentive. The takoyaki was not hot enough. It should be melt the roof of your mouth hot (at least hot enough for the bonito flakes to be dancing), but was lukewarm. It did have a couple decent chunks of octopus though, and lots of bonito and sauce. The Yin Yang Ramen was bland overall. The spicy had a bit of a kick, but I had to add a lot more with the shichimi togarashi. There is sauerkraut pepper and a cayenne pepper condiments on the table as well, but I wish I didn't have to add more flavor. Just disappointed with the quality. "We intend to be the Starbucks of Ramen in the U.S." Kyuramen founder Gary Lin stated in 2022. Considering most coffee lovers usually finds Starbucks kind of mid it seems a low bar to aim for, but perhaps his intent behind those words is to bring Ramen to every corner and strip mall in America. On that front they are certainly succeeding considering how many locations I've seen open recently. To be fair I've been to Kyuramen multiple times over the years - mostly to the downtown Flushing location before its closure due to what looked like a fire. (I saw they recently reopened). I've always walked away feeling a bit eh about the food and experience. Same thing happened here. We had the Takoyaki to start - most places usually serve these screaming hot, but theirs were kind of warm. The make a serviceable version with plenty of bonito shreds (Katsuobushi) that works well with the crisp outside and soft insides of the balls. Where the katsuobushi does not work well is in Ramen. Usually when bonito is used in soups it is strained out after it has given up its flavor because who really enjoys wet, limp bonito flakes in their mouth? I mainly got this because the menu photo shows thick slabs of pork belly served with this which in reality were very disappointing - the texture alternated from dry pork chop to slabs of fat - these were difficult to chew through. I ordered a Sapporo to at least have something I could enjoy. I got a free matcha pudding thanks to my Yelp check in. It is made for the Asian palate - not very sweet. Fortunately the sweetness level works for mine as well. They give a little pitcher shaped shot glass to pour over the whole affair. I finish up and the waiter brings over an iPad so I can pay - I do my business on the touch screen leave the device on the table and go about my day. read more

The experience today was so weird. We had a table of 5 with a baby. Rang the bell to put in our order and waited 45 mins for our ramen. One person from our party ate her dish and finish because we didn't want her to wait on us. If I'm honest I don't think we would have ever gotten our ramen if we didn't ask a waitress where our order was. How did they get the egg/rice order but not the 4 orders of ramen? It doesn't make sense. It doesn't take 45 mins for ramen... it was also not even busy. And they forgot a tempura shrimp for one of the ramen dishes. No apology for the extended wait. No acknowledgment of their poor service. Make sure if you come here and have to wait longer than 15 mins for a bowl of ramen. Ask and don't be like our table trying to give them grace. Walking in this place left me flabbergasted. I became mesmerized the decor that speaks life to this restaurant. I just could not staring and looking around. The displays, designs, and ambiance captures the attention of those who desire elegance, sophistication, and a private and romantic setting set off behind a private curtain. This is the third Kyuramen location we've been to, guess we really like the place. This is definitely one of the prettiest location, with the cool honeycomb table design. Although I do wonder if it's a bit scary to sit at the top level. The star here is definitely the Omurice, it's so soft and delicious, and even the fried rice underneath is super flavorful. Everytime I come to kyuramen I'm always pleasantly surprised by the quality and range of great items this business always seems to offer. This latest experience was no different and in fact even more of a pleasant surprise. I ordered the omurice since this is an item I rarely see anywhere, it came with a side of the crispiest most succulent katsu I've ever had. The omurice itself was awesome as well, soft, fluffy and cooked perfectly in that the egg flowed like lava, this was a first for me and made a great lasting impression. I also ordered the spicy signature kyuramen which is something that I regularly order here and is a bit of a novelty item for me since this is probably the only place where you could order a "mala" flavored Ramen its not the best Ramen I've tasted but still a great Ramen with it's uniqueness the top selling point of this item.
