The Khong Rou Fan is comforting and flavorful, and the Niu Rou Mian is always a good choice when you want something warm and satisfying. The string beans were a nice light appetizer to start. It's kind of a semi-service place -- you order at the counter and clean up after yourself when you're done, so there's no need to leave a tip if you dine in. Came for lunch on a weekday with a friend. We ordered one appetizer (stinky tofu), two lunch bowls (Lou Rou Fan & Taiwanese Sausage bento), plus a side order of fried pork chops. The good- plenty of meat in Lou Rou Fan, the texture of stinky tofu, the no tipping but bus your own tray business model. Friendliness of staff behind the ordering counter. The so-so: not enough fragrance in stinky tofu, the slightly soggy/oily pork chop, and lack of fragrance in Taiwanese sausage. The somewhat expensive price( our lunch costing $56 total). Gua bao 8/10 Soft flavorful pork slices in light buns. They cover the pork in peanut powder so if you don't like peanut, bush it off or tell them ahead of time. Add a spicy sauce for an extra kick. Da lu mian 8/10 Healthy tasting mushroom soup. Lots of veggies, mainly mushrooms, no noodles, makes it a great alternative to meat. And we are back folks! This time we tried their noodle soups, fried chicken chop and fried squid balls. I loved the bouncy texture of the squid balls! My noodle soup had pork and mustard greens while my husband tried the pork and pickled vegetable. They were both very good, super filling too. I've been here at least twice before and enjoy this cozy space. Last time we went because my friend had been wanting to try this place - we got the popcorn chicken chicken, the lu rou fan, and I forgot what my friend got but it was actually my favorite thing on the table. Keepin it real out here in Bayside One of my fave Taiwanese spot out here in Queens. Food is solid solid. Some people seem to have issue with the self service, taking out your own food, pouring out the soup etc. I find that experience quite refreshing. The beef noodle soup was so good that I ended up bringing the whole family back. This time we ordered three beef noodle soups, the chicken cutlet over rice, and the stewed beef flank over rice. Service style here is a fast-casual format where you order at the counter, staff deliver the food and you clear your own table after eating. You are expected to bus your own table by clearing plates and sorting waste.  Food is really good for its authentic and flavorful Taiwanese cuisine with well prepared and flavorful ingredients. We have tried the Lu Rou Fan (braised pork belly), Yan Su Ji (salt and peppered Popcorn Chicken) and Dan Dan Mian (dry noodles with sesame, hot pepper powder and peanut sauce), all of which were delicious, tasted awesome, home-made style comfort food and definitely recommendable. A great place for authentic Taiwanese food in Bayside. The place shares a small parking lot with a few other stores so it might be hard to park if it is a busy day. The place is very clean and is self-serve, so once you order what you want, you go and pick it up at the cashier table. You also have to clean up after yourself when you are done eating by placing the utensils and leftovers in the proper receptacles. Niu Rou Mian($17.46)- The broth was very flavorful as you can taste the star anise and spices that were used to make it, the noodles have a nice bounce to them while the beef was tender enough to break apart with chopsticks. Lu Rou Fan($11.03)- The amount of braised pork was more than I expected in a great way. The pickled cucumbers helps break up the fattiness with each bite. It also comes with a soup on the side. Yan Su Ji($10.11)- This salt and pepper popcorn chicken had great flavor but some pieces were drier than expected. This might be because it was chicken breast. Chou Dou Fu($11.03)- Not as stinky as I expected but still tasted really good, the pickled vegetables has a nice crunch and sweetness to them. The tofu itself has a nice fry and crispy texture. But every dish comes with a warm, comforting chicken soup with carrots, potatoes, and beans! We got the Popcorn Chicken to share which you can get Spicy Regular or Extra Spicy - would recommend the Spicy, as the seasoning is pretty strong. There's more juicy chicken pieces as opposed to other places where it is more breading. Chimama is on the south side of Bell Blvd, a block away from Northern Blvd. There is a row of parking spaces for the businesses on that block, or street parking. Accessible by buses. Inside is bright, beige/light wood color on walls and tables/benches. Waited 15 min for a table on a Sunday afternoon. Ordered at the counter, and the food was brought to our table, then we cleaned up after ourselves (bins set up). Only one person attended to the customers but he was patient and calm. The music playing was also relaxing. The rice bowls came with an egg, cucumber and soup on the side (we liked the mild broth with pork chunks and radish). Khong Rou Fan had tender, fatty pieces of braised pork and I preferred it over Zhu Pai Fan with fried pork loin. Salt and pepper popcorn chicken was a group fave. Spicy version had spice powder on it (as opposed to fresh chilies which I prefer)- we only asked for "little spicy" and was enough for me. Salt and pepper chicken cutlet had the same flavor (but for the bigger portion, would just get the popcorn again). Rice not included. N5 soup- Xue Cai Rou Si Mian had a lot of mustard greens and little bit of shredded pork. Flavor is good, al dente noodles. Under "extras", can get addtl food items if you don't want a full dish. You also take care of the dishes yourself, so it's not a typical dine in experience. Keep in mind that the portions are not the biggest! The interior is pretty clean and it does feel cozy. They welcome you the moment you walk in and are very helpful to describing the menu to you and any questions you may have in a very polite manner. The seating is not like a regular restaurant though. You would have to order your food at the front first then seat yourself at any open table. The water and untensils are also self serve at the front counter. At least they bring you your food to whichever table youre sitting at but when youre done you would have to clean up your table. They have a section where you sort compostable waste, trash, and recyclables then leave your bowls and plates in a push cart. I recommend summer limited Taiwanese cold noodles, very refreshing and delicious. The flavor is on the lighter side, but perfect for me. Such a cute Taiwanese restaurant located on Bell Blvd in Bayside. The area is easily accessible via bus on Northern Blvd and has a small parking area in the front too. I came on a weekend night with my friend and the place was relatively packed but we were able to find a table for us.
