It is located on the first floor of a 3 family apt building with indoor patio dining. The interior is small with several tables. It has quite an extensive menu with so much to choose from. We ordered boneless chicken thighs and Korean pancake for appetizers which was very good. We each ordered entrees, some ramen, some rice bowls, and rice cake dishes. Again all very good. Portions were decent. They serve an assortment of drinks like bubble tea as well. There is only street parking. Service is friendly and efficient. Thank you Modoo for keeping it halal! As a Korean food aficionado, it is so difficult to find places where I can experience the full breadth of flavors that the cuisine has to offer. While Modoo has been around for some time, I've never been able to make the trek... till now! And boy am I glad I did, because it lived up to the hype. The food was fresh and flavorful. My favorite was definitely the beef bulgogi ddukbukki, which was nicely balanced with meat, veggies, rice cake, and sauce. The udon was also very hearty on a cold day. The wings were fine, crispy but nothing special otherwise. I loved the yuzu sparkler I got with small bits of yuzu in the drink. Service and ambience were not the best: there was only one gal working the front, and it was quite packed in the restaurant, and the set up in the restaurant itself isn't anything fancy (think small, cozy space, with disposable utensils). Admittedly, my favorite form of Korean food is Korean BBQ. However, I'm frequently trying to convince myself that maybe I enjoy other forms of Korean food. This place did not help me do this. We started with the seafood pancake. The picture does it way too much justice, as it is infinitely smaller than it seems in the pictures (even ours) and really not worth it. For the mains, we went with the spicy udon and house beef bulgogi. The former was fine-udon noodles will always be fine. The chicken really added nothing to it. The beef bulgogi was really where I had more of an issue. The lightly fried tofu was a nicer addition. However, I still truly do not understand what we paid for. The dish is called "bulgogi (stir fried beef)" and in the description includes that it has marinated slices of beef. However, when going to order it online, I was charged $5 to add beef. I thought maybe this meant I was adding extra beef, but this certainly cannot be the case with the amount of beef we were given. Overall, while the food was very fine, the price just wasn't worth it. The $25 price point for the bulgogi dish was regretful. Finally, I was super interested in ordering chicken wings as so many of the reviews raved about these. There must have been a menu change in the interim, though, as the prices for even the smallest of chicken wings (10 pieces at $20) was not something I was going to pursue. We ordered: - Beef Bulgogi Udon Soup: $15.99 ($17.41 with tax). The beef and egg were over-cooked. The udon and broth were OK, though the udon seemed store-bought -- it was missing a chew and springiness characteristic of freshly-made noodles. - Shrimp Tempura: $9.99 ($10.88 with tax). Perfectly air-fried, no grease. The uniform nature of these pieces suggest they are store-bought, rather than home-made. - Seafood Pancake: $7.99 ($8.70 with tax) Over-fried, not greasy. Most likely store-bought, also. The air conditioning wasn't working when we visited, but there was a large fan and dehumidifier in operation. Service was good, but the overall experience felt somewhat pointless. If I wanted store-bought food, I could have bought and re-heated it myself. Overhyped, Overcrowded, and Overpriced Definitely Not Family-Friendly I really wanted to love this place it's the only halal ramen spot around, and I waited an hour and a half with my two young kids just to try it again. I've been here before, but sadly, the quality has gone way down since my last visit. First off, the waitlist system is a total mess. There were people who were on the list showed up much later (sometimes 30 minutes after their name was called), and they were still seated right away. That left a bunch of us who had been waiting the whole time stuck outside even longer. There's no proper system to manage late arrivals. Since it's such a busy place, there should be a grace period of only 15 minutes. The space itself is way too small. Tables are practically stacked on top of each other, and I saw multiple mothers squeezed in with strollers and car seats in corners it honestly felt unsafe. This setup is not ideal for families with little ones. They either need a bigger space or a much better system to prioritize families with young children. As for the food that was the final letdown. While people waiting were being handed menus to pre-order since closing time was approaching, I wasn't even given one. After finally being seated, my food took another 30 minutes to arrive. By then, my kids were starving. I ordered the spicy beef bulgogi it was incredibly salty, with way more vegetables than meat. The ramen itself was also overly salted and nowhere near worth the hype or the price. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place, especially if you have young children. Such a cute place! Almost missed it because the sign didn't say Modoo, only Chicken & Noodle Bar. Came here on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm and got seated pretty quickly. It started to pick up and restaurant got full about 30 mins after. My cousin and I ordered French Fries, soy garlic chicken wings, Ox tail ramen, and C&N Chicken Katsu Udon. - French Fries were okay. They as basic as they can get. Had to dip it in the soy garlic chicken wing sauce to have some yum to it - Soy garlic chicken wings - Wowza. When it came out, the smell of the wings were mouthwatering delicious. I couldn't wait to devour them. And when I did, I very much devoured them. The wings were well fried/crispy and the soy garlic sauce was just perfect. - Ox tail ramen - definitely unique because I don't think I've ever had ox tail in ramen before. I can't believe I never wrote a review for Modoo. Since the first time I had it a few years ago, I haven't stopped thinking about their chicken katsu curry. Last night I got to return and discovered they now have a CHEESE chicken katsu and you best believe I asked to have that paired with their curry set with some bulgogi on the side. Now the chicken has zero seasoning but the curry and the dressing on the salad gives it all flavor though on its own it's delicious with the addition of cheese but the meat is flavorless. Would love some seasoning. The bulgogi side is five bucks and it's so tiny. Better to order their bulgogi fries or something which is twelve bucks and it's an enormous bowl (I didn't order it but saw a lady eating it and was shook by the portion--something to order for next time). The vegetable pancake was delicious but so tiny for 8 bucks. If it came with an order of two I think I would've been happier with the price. Otherwise, the kitchen is super slow but doesn't bother me whatsoever. Nice to know everything is being made fresh. Just make sure you have lots to talk about with your company while you wait. The wait staff were lovely. Bathroom is present. The only thing is when the door is open, it's absolutely freezing and there's few tables available so you might be having to wait a little while to sit down and eat. Personally did not like their so it beef ramen but my friend swears by it (I might just not like ramen I think). It's definitely more of a 4.5 stars for me but considering how they occupy my mind 24 hours later still, I think a 5 is earned. read more

The establishment is small and very busy on weekends. Very simple decor yet very cozy. Upon entering you are greeted by the staff and you then write your name, party size as well as phone number on a board which they then call you when its your turn. The wait was about 45-50min which wasn't bad at all. Food came out fast. The steamed and fried chicken dumplings were great! However wasn't a fan of the shrimp shumai. Came here with a couple of friends on a Sunday night. Unfortunately you cannot make a reservation. The place is pretty small so the wait time might be long. We waited about 40 mins for an outdoor table, which was actually not too cold bc they had heaters. They also had coverings to the outdoor portion so it was pretty comfortable. The service was ok, could be a little faster, but overall did not feel like it was anything out of the ordinary. Loved the food here, and my friends loved the fact that it was halal, you see so many south asians here compare to other restaurants bc of their halal options. Both were pleasant. For mains we ordered chicken and beef bulgogi. The chicken was better than the beef. The chicken was well flavored and had substance to it. This place is very underwhelming. The seafood pancake is smaller than my tiny hand. There was some octopus in there, but very dry and chewy. I would suggest skipping any of the appetizers. Not a lot of thought process was put into cooking any of these. Seems like the supermarket variety. Udon soup. Udon texture is okay. Soup is okay. Egg was so over cooked, it wasn't white any more. I'm knocking down two stars just for the service and because I was unable to have my food packed and taken with me. The food here is made well and the best part is that it's halal. Tonight, our waiter was a young South Asian gentleman (only describing him because I don't know his name) who took care of us and the whole restaurant quite well. A different woman working there was very rude to us. My husband and I ordered two entrees and two appetizers. Our meal was about 60% finished with 40% of food left. One of our appetizers only had a few bites taken because we were getting full and I was planning to have it packed. She came over and asked us if we were finished and we said we are still eating. She rolled her eyes and was visibly agitated taking a large sigh. My husband ignored this and suggested he would take the check now and pay for it since she seemed obviously disappointed with our answer. When she brought the check after 1 minute, she wordlessly took our appetizer plates and stacked them up even though we were still eating and she just asked us 1 minute ago if we were done and we said no. She didn't ask us if we wanted it packed or give us a chance to request that. I wanted the appetizer that was full along with half of our dinner plates to be combined and packed to go. She already stacked almost everything before I could say anything. I had only my dinner plate still in front of me and asked her why she took the plates without asking. She said there's a long line waiting. I asked her what's the maximum time a party has to eat and she said "about one hour." There is no sign at the restaurant that states this rule. We were there with ***25*** minutes left until our hour approached regardless. We needed like 5-7 more minutes to eat a little, pack the rest and leave. Like I said, we already paid. I asked our original waiter what her name was and he was too reluctant to give it. Perhaps many people complain about her OR he's intimidated by her rudeness and the crass way she carries herself. He sheepishly brought her over and I asked her name in a calm manner with a smile on my face. She literally stomped over with attitude and seemed to think for a few seconds too long and came up with "Jessica." I highly doubt that's her name so I'll describe her so that others can avoid her. She looks about 35-36 with a lot of lip fillers, medium build, straight dark hair and is presumably East Asian. We usually never have issues here but that's because we never dealt with her. The waiters here are always very kind. When it was our turn to wait for a table, we patiently did. If I was waiting and saw a waiter treat a customer this way, I would stop waiting and leave. If you can treat one party like that then it's a major turn off and red flag for the people witnessing it. There is a way to speak to customers and humans in general. Never in my life did I expect to have halal Korean food and for that I am so grateful The interior is intimate and cozy, but pretty (we were in the corner seat near the door). The staff are also nice and patient (we're not the most decisive people). The menu has plenty but I did wish there were other options like soondubu, galbi, kimbap, etc. But with that said, we loved everything we ordered! You get a huge glass container of water when sat down (just FYI for the ppl also sad that most places don't give water for free anymore) I got the spicy bulgogi with rice which low-key kinda tasted different than usual but it was delicious nonetheless. Also they give very generous portions of the meat, I almost wanted to ask for another bowl of rice. I kinda wish they gave us some kimchi (esp radish kimchi) as a side but the food was good with or without. The octopus in our was sizeable, but it tasted a bit fishy? Idk what it was (yes I know how silly it sounds to say seafood tastes fishy lol). A couple of friends and I decided to come here for dinner, as our previous experience here was memorable. For appetizers, we went for the seafood pancakes and dumplings. Prepare to be displeased as the pancakes were as small as my palm and the dumplings were fresh out the freezer (an absurd amount of water came out the dumplings). Then came our entrees, where I went for the spicy beef ramen. My displeasure was furthered as the ramen tasted like instant noodles and the beef tasted like it was cooked hours before hand; the broth was flavorful however. I was given two pieces of mushroom in my dish, which tasted funny at first. I did not think much of it and continued to eat my meal. Halfway into my ramen, I start feeling bloated and unusually full. Fast forward the next day, I maybe went to the bathroom 8 times because of those mushrooms. So yes, my friends and I ended up paying ~$100 for unreasonably small portions, prepackaged food and spoiled ingredients. I would not recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy. Got to try Modoo recently with a few friends. This small but cute restaurant was very homey feeling and seemed super authentic. We got a few dishes to try including the fried chicken, takoyaki, corn cheese, katsu with curry and the tteokbokki with cheese. The fried chicken we got with soy garlic flavor was delicious and I loved that it was mixed with a few rice cakes which also soaks up the delicious flavors. This restaurant has a variety of options such as boneless & bone-in chicken wings, ramen, chicken katsu, rice cakes, udon noodles, etc. We ordered the boneless thigh chicken wings with sweet chili sauce, chicken katsu, and soy bulgolgi ramen. Soy bulgolgi ramen and the chicken katsu had a lot of flavor and was absolutely delicious. The chicken katsu came with salad and rice. I recommend this place for a casual dinner with friends, honestly wish I found this place sooner.
