came for dinner yesterday with a friend since we were both craving a good bowl of ramen and this place has been consistent with quality and experience so here we were! our waiter was super nice and checked on us quite a few times to get our orders and refill drinks. i got the curry ramen once again because it was so good the last time and it was just as phenomenal this time too. i just love that curry broth and the soft boiled egg was just perfect. the pork was cooked just right as well and i left feeling very happy and satisfied with what i ordered here. it wasn't very busy and we were seated near as soon as we stepped inside. very clean table and the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. definitely my fave place to grab a bowl of quality ramen. next time i need to see if their omurice is just as amazing as the ramen is at this location. Worst food I've ever eaten! I ordered fries as an appetizer so the vegetarian with us could share and it had fish flakes on top. That is a disgusting combo on top of NOT being vegetarian. The pork was 1/3 fat with a gamey taste. The vegetarian dumplings were mushy and loaded with cheap / oxidized oil. The veggie noodle bowl did not have ramen but actual noodles made from vegetables that were mushy. The entire experience was horrible. The menu does not describe the dishes/ingredients adequately. The atmosphere is top notch. The honeycomb seating on the far left is so fun. The service is fantastic, everyone is nice. Our server was great. There was even a little robot that delivered some people's drinks across the restaurant. The food was pretty good. I ordered dumplings and spring rolls for appetizers before my noodle bowls and they were okay. The dumplings were kind of dry I guess, and too black so my daughter who normally loves dumplings did not like them. The wrapper of the spring rolls was thicker like an egg roll so it wasn't as light and crispy as the spring rolls I prefer. The popcorn chicken was not super hot when it came out so maybe that's why I don't think it was great. It was a little rubbery and dry. My kids did not like it and just ate the extra plan noodles we got. The ramen was good though, the spicy ramen wasn't too spicy. I could have bumped it up a notch but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to eat it all if I chose the hottest hot so we just got the average to try. Overall this place is near our house and a fun place to sit on and eat so we may be back, but there are better ramen places if you're into just the food or doing take out. Kyuramen is a truly unique option in W. Knoxville. The interior has a wall section that features really cool seating in a honeycomb structure with two levels. The interior aesthetic also includes a wooden tree-like structure with hanging tags. This reminds me of the hanging wooden tags that you see at Japanese temples in Kyoto. I also like the decor -- very modern and fresh. For drinks that you order (like bubble tea), they are served by a little robot cart that drives autonomously to your table while playing the APT song by Bruno Mars/Rose. I've seen this in Japan and Korea. But, this is the first time I've ever seen a U.S. restaurant use a robot. Now, for the food: I would rank it as good. But, not particularly memorable in that respect. Seems like an over-emphasis on pork entrees (which is a downside in my opinion). The ramen bowl that had chicken also wasn't the best quality or very tasty. Also, it just felt like it was a few pieces of meat and scant amounts of veggies. By comparison, I actually think Yamato in Farragut does a better job on the ramen bowls, has more options, and better pricing. Also, for chains in this space, Wagamaga is better (alas it is not in Knoxville). However, foodwise, the egg/cutlet dish, bao bun, and Japanese fries appetizers were good and unique. The bubble tea and drinks also were first rate and the robot server was very fun. Overall: This is a place to come for the atmosphere and appetizers. If I was meeting friends or a single person going on a date, it would be great for that purpose also. But, since it is pricey and the food isn't really my favorite, I'll probably not be a frequent guest. read more

Wow! We are recent transplants from Vegas where ramen and sushi shops in China town are the best in the country- so we had high expectations! We were seated in the wall honeycomb seating which was SO fun and we were super excited to be led up there. We ordered a bao bun with pork, a brown sugar boba tea, the spicy tonkotsu ramen, and I got the yingyang bowl. Everything was fantastic! The service was the appropriate amount of attentive, the food was hot and delicious, and of course everything in this brand new restaurant is still clean and beautiful. This place is quite the special experience! I am obsessed with the ambience and traditional Japanese décor, which set this place apart from any other ramen spots I've had in the area. From the Shinto shrine replica, to the traditional Japanese plaques hanging from the ceiling, to the honeycomb wall, the attention to detail was immaculate! Not only is it visually appealing, but the ramen was delicious too. I first tried the spicy miso ramen, which did not have the flavor profile I was looking for, because I think the spice may have overpowered the miso. Despite this, the noodles had a perfect bite, were not too soggy, and the dish came out nice and hot. The second time I visited, I tried the tonkotsu ramen, which had the umami I was looking for and struck a perfect balance. I also sampled some of my friend's kimchi ramen, and I was blown away by how well the flavors went together. I am a kimchi lover, so I do plan on ordering that next time. I also tried the vegetable pan-fried dumplings, since a couple of my friends were vegetarian, and they were delicious! My vegetarian friends also ordered the vegetarian miso ramen and enjoyed it, so it seems that their vegetarian options are noteworthy. The only reason I would not rate it 5 stars is that the service was a little slow the couple of times I went, and there were a few occasions when we waited longer than we would have liked to place our orders. Otherwise, I still plan to come back again, and I think the food, in addition to the atmosphere, makes for a very unique experience! read more

Oh I hate to leave 3 stars. We were so excited to try the new ramen restaurant. Outside is well marked and easy to find. Inside is stunning. The honeycomb wall is so unique as well as the wooden tree of good wishes. Our waitress was lacking. She came to the table to take our order and drop off our order. We watched her sit down with other guest eating (she ate as well) and would call over another waiter to come help us when he could between his tables. It was rather annoying. As a result our appetizer arrived cold .. and hard. Then our meal came out immediately after. The miso ramen was very good, the chicken shoyu could use stronger shoyu flavor. This ramen spot is one of the few additions to Knoxville recently and truly feels like a sign the city is growing into a more cosmopolitan food scene. I've had it in Atlanta and was truly in love. Glad to see it finally in Knoxville. I believe they just opened a few days ago, and the location, which is right next to Panera, offers plenty of parking. We came as a group of five, and although the service staff seemed a bit overwhelmed (it took about 40 minutes to get seated and receive our menus), the food made up for the wait, especially after getting caught in a wild thunderstorm. We shared several appetizers: spicy chili dumplings, Japanese-style French fries, popcorn chicken, and a yakitori platter. Everything was delicious, but the fries with that amazing sauce really stood out! I couldn't resist ordering the Yin-Yang Ramen--because how could I choose between chashu and tonkotsu? My friends had the chicken and vegetable ramen, and the chicken broth was especially flavorful. Also-don't forget to try their house-made chilis, my favorite is the sauerkraut one, perfect highlight for my ramen. So let's start with the cons. The wait for 7pm on a Friday night was atrocious. We waited well over an hour for a table of three, and only finally got seated because 4 tables in line ahead of us decided to leave before they were seated. The reusable chopsticks, though I'm sure more economical, were a huge "ick" factor for me. There was a lack of appetizer plates so it was difficult to share the edamame and gyoza with the group. Their menu is a bit limited: there are no real young kid friendly dishes (several appetizers were spicy) and perhaps the biggest disappointment - they only had a few of the desserts listed on the online menu at this location. Now the pros: We loved that there was a waitlist sign up right when you entered so no time was spent waiting to talk to someone and get in a list. The staff was awesome, our server was very sweet and attentive; in fact, all the staff were smiling and friendly. The venue itself is very cool inside. Even though we had to wait, we got a great booth table which is nice when you are dining with a child. Getting our food delivered by a robot was the cherry on top of the fun atmosphere. Came in today for lunch with my son because he loves ramen. We were seated in the upstairs part which he thought was really cool. Our server brought us water and gave us time to look over the menu. They have a lot of different options for ramen and a few other dishes along with appetizers. Both of us decided to get one of the combos. I got the Tokyo Tonkotsu Ramen and he got the Chicken Soyu Ramen. Our appetizers came fast, my meal came with a steamed pork boa bun and his with deep fried goyza. The bun was light and fluffy with very tender meat inside. The goyza was crunchy and hot. The ramens were definitely the star of the show. The broth for the Tokyo ramen was super flavorful and also light. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the toppings all went really well together. My son loved his chicken ramen, he finished the whole thing pretty fast. The desserts that came with the combos were a nice finishing touch to the meal. They were both light and flavorful. Kyuramen was a Greta place to sit and have lunch, the inside is so fun and transports you to a different place. They give you time to enjoy your meal without being rushed and everything tasted really good. It does get crowded very fast so if you are looking to sit upstairs I would go earlier. read more

Okay, this met all of my expectations AND THEN SOME. They have robots!! In the restaurants! They'll deliver things and sing songs! So cool! This was a whole experience and I can't wait to go back. I was there with my sister and mom and we all got different dishes, two ramen, one udon, two appetizers (good heavens, you have to try the smashed cucumber) and they were so good. The waiter was super helpful and explained everything so well and made it a great first time. My wife and I swapped dishes midway through and the flavors were quite different despite having same basic veggies and pork. I arrived a little after opening to beat the crowd on a Friday before the lunch rush. The ramen was good. The bowl is a lot deeper than I anticipated and I was absolutely delighted at the deception and was so happy to have leftovers to enjoy later on that night. I wish it was a little more creamy but the flavors are really spot on. The Thai tea is so delicious and if I could inject it into my veins, I would. The inside decor is absolutely breathtaking, unique, and you can feel the love in the walls. I was seated at the bar and was able to watch the magic happen. The owner is very kind, funny, and it seems like his staff has fun too. There's one server who.. I hope he does not ever speak to me ever again. He was so offensive. I came in to eat alone, and basically based on my skin tone, I said, "Oh, it's just me today." And his response was, "You need an application?" Uhm. Flattered I guess? But.. also wtf? I immediately recognized him from his previous experience at another restaurant where he was equally rude to my mom and I where I never went back to again because he was my server. now he is at one of my most favorite restaurants and I am torn. So, they are still experiencing a LOT of growing pains. I went there with my best friend this last Sunday (I know, a bit stupid) and we got there around 1:45 and got on the list. Which was 90 minutes long. So we went next door and got some drinks which were absolutely lovely. I highly recommend while waiting. So we got seated after around an hour, so shorter then the estimated wait. As we got seated (at 2:50) the wait was now 2 hours. At the table, they alerted us everything that they were out of, which was a fair few things... including the gluten free noodles, which, I was going to have. (Though a 4 dollar up-charge is probably not worth it) It was mentioned they had the veggie noodles? But they didn't say whether they were gluten free naturally or what exactly they were. So, instead I ordered an appetizer and my friend got her ramen. Both were fantastic. I loved what I got, but I was done eating long before she got her food. So it made the table a little uncomfortable. In total, the wait for her ramen was probably around 45 minutes and we were there from getting in line to leaving for probably 3 hours. The atmosphere is nice, we sat up on the wall, which was unique but I think I'll stick with a normal table next time just cause I felt the service on the floor was a bit more regular. I loved our server, don't get me wrong, but she was being worked to the bone with carrying heavy bowls of ramen up stairs and trying to keep everyone happy. I mean, I felt bad asking for a refill on my water cause she had to bring the whole pitcher up. I plan to go back, relatively soon with my family but I don't know as someone with a gluten allergy if it's a bang for my buck. 15-20 dollar ramen with a 4 dollar up-charge... without a guarantee if it's gluten free. Made me anxious. Everything tasted good though and the service was great for what they are being put through. I'd just give them time to get passed these humps. read more
