Over the past few years, Kyuramen has become one of the rising stars in Houston's food scene. While I have visited the Bellaire location, I happened to be in this area and my friend wanted to give it a try here. We arrived around 5:00 p.m., and since the restaurant was not very busy, we were seated immediately. Our server was friendly and attentive, and all of our food came out surprisingly quickly. Since it was my friend's first time visiting Kyuramen, we ordered a variety of dishes to give them a good introduction to the menu. Naturally, we had to try the restaurant's signature omurice. We ordered it with tonkatsu and sampled both the curry and demi-glace sauces. The omelet itself was perfectly cooked, with a silky, soft texture, and the rice was incredibly buttery. However, I thought the rice could have used a bit more seasoning, as it lacked flavor on its own. Between the two sauces, the demi-glace was the clear winner. Its rich, savory flavor balanced the creaminess of the egg and rice beautifully, while the curry tasted flat and reminded me too much of an instant curry cube. We also ordered the Kyushu Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. While it was a decent bowl of ramen, it did not particularly stand out, and I was disappointed that it had almost no heat despite ordering the hottest spice level. The broth was enjoyable but lacked the bold spice I was expecting. Finally, we tried the popcorn chicken. It was good, but not among the best I've had. The breading was noticeably heavier than I prefer, and I wish the restaurant had been more generous with the fried basil, which usually adds a lot of fragrance and flavor. In fact, I think several local boba cafés, such as Teahouse, serve a better version. Overall, I walked away feeling disappointed. While the omurice with demi-glace was the highlight of the meal, everything else ranged from average to underwhelming, especially considering how much praise this restaurant receives. For the prices they charge, I expected dishes with more flavor and better execution. Between the bland curry, underwhelming ramen, and mediocre popcorn chicken, I don't see myself going out of my way to come back, not only to this location but to the others, too. read more

This place is so cute. I love the seating arrangement in the honeycomb. The food was really good. Everything we ate was delicious. The sauce they give with the Tonkatsu Omurice, AKA egg and rice, was soooo good. All the appetizers we had were delicious, and the fried corn I had never seen before was different and yummy, as were the purple sweet potato fries. The staff was wonderful, and they have really good drinks. I had the grapefruit tea to-go, so good! and I had the lemonade while we ate, which was soooo good as well. Great place to stop off for a quick lunch. The ramen broth was rich and flavorful but needed more spice for my liking. Tried their Grapefruit aloe tea which surprisingly was very delicious. My kid is a regular here now. We always come later in the day on weekdays and always get the honeycomb seating without issue. The tonkatsu curry ramen with pork bao/thai tea add on is her go to. Such a cool looking little ramen shop. The food was amazing too. Every thing that we ordered was spot on some of the best ramen around. The popcorn chicken was great too. However it is the Woodlands and the prices are a little high for a bowl of ramen. The service was friendly but never really suggested anything. They use a kinda pager system to ring a server over to the table. That part seemed odd and often awkward. We weren't really sure if we had a dedicated server. Although I've given this place multiple tries... I just can't bring myself to like it. We started with some appetizers - popcorn chicken and Ika (fried squid). They were crispy and tasted really good. Unfortunately my experience only went down hill from there. I was in between 3 kinds of ramen and asked the server if there was any diffence btwn the broths since they were all pork. She told me they all tasted VERY different, but could not tell me what the difference was. She rattled off the different toppings that they came with instead of describing the broth... I ended up picking the #3 Mega Ramen and it was not good. The broth was sweet yet bland - I picked at the toppings here and there but could not bring myself to actually eat it. My partner's ramen broth was rich, umami, and way more flavorful. Not sure if this was some fluke or if it was meant to be like this... During my previous visit, I ordered the viral omurice and also found it to be extremely bland. I will not be visitng again as there are issues with consistancy of the food quality/taste. Kyuramen is always a hit, and the design this location was so freaking cool. It had hive pods on the wall that I got to sit at and overlook the entire restaurant. The service is excellent and not just because there is a button on your table to press when you need anything, but the staff is so kind. I felt overwhelmed by the options but not to fear the yingyang bowl is here! It's basically a 2-in-1 option of the Shoyu and Miso Ramen. Both broths were very delicious- the shoyu being bolder than the miso but it was divine being able to go back and forth from each and experience different flavors in one bowl. Got the tonkatus omurice and tried it with both the demi glace and the curry sauce about $25 with tax so not super cheap. Unfortunately it just genuinely lacked any and all flavor besides mushroom. I honestly don't recall ever seeing an actual mushroom though. The demi glace sauce lacked any flavor as well but as I have never had it before now I wonder if that is just how it is meant to taste. I had no idea if I should pay $1 more for the black garlic, so I asked my server, and he rattled off a bunch of facts about why black garlic was better. I'd come back and try some of the other options in the future based on the great reviews, though. We also ordered some popcorn chicken that was mostly for my son, but I kept snacking on it because it was addicting. The saltiness really gets you. I also ordered a taro smoothie with boba, which technically comes from Tbaar next door, which I guess it technically a part of the same business. This was easily the highlight of my experience. There was just something slightly different about this smoothie... maybe it was just creamier? Either way, I will 100% be back for more drinks from Tbaar! I found out that the owner of KyuRamen is the same person as Tbaar, which operates next door and serves smoothies and bubble tea. KyuRamen also has more than 100 locations worldwide. Given this, I was expecting a very generic and earthy bowl of ramen, and nothing absurdly fancy. The establishment is also known for its creatively designed seating arrangements in a honeycomb shape. The ramen, as expected, was good and very typical of an establishment of this caliber. They are straightforward with their variety and do not attempt anything over the edge like joints in Japan. You pick a variation of tonkotsu, shoyo, or a curry ramen. This keeps the food very consistently good and quick. Many ramen establishments are now charging north of $20.00 for a bowl of ramen. It is refreshing to still be able to eat ramen at an "affordable" price range these days jajaja. We visited here on a Sunday and they were about half full. Unfortunately, the pod seating was full, so they sent us to a private room in the back corner next to a family with some very loud young kids. And again, unfortunately our call button wasn't working or something as we pressed it multiple times and no one ever came. The table that came after us had their waiter show up and take their order immediately and visited them very often, as opposed to our waiter who was MIA most of the time. We waited around 5 mins before a server showed up. We tried their tonkatsu black, classic omurice, popcorn chicken, fried oyster, Thai tea (which comes with the omurice, and a coconut smoothie. The ramen was pretty good, but just wasn't awesome by any means. The good ones start tasting the same after a while. I enjoyed the fried oysters though. The omurice was interesting but seemed way overpriced. The Thai tea was just average Thai tea. I really enjoyed the coconut smoothie though. After being stuck in traffic due to an accident for 3 hours, I was very excited to get some food!! Kyuramen was a perfect choice for a nice hot meal to warm us up. Upon walking in we were immediately greeted and seated. I was curious bc all the tables looked full , where were we going to be seated? The hostess led us to a short set of stairs into a honeycomb booth. This was SOOO CUTE!! I loved it! Our server was super informative, answering any questions we had. After we placed our order, our food began to come out. I was a little concerned at first bc my side on tonkotsu came out first even though it was ordered as a side for my ramen. But overall, everything came out pretty quickly. As soon as the bowl of ramen was placed on my table the aromas were absolutely mouthwatering. Not to mention it looked amazing. It was perfectly balanced with all the accompaniments. Just amazing. We got deep fried dumplings as well that were nice and crisp and the filling was well seasoned. The only complaint I have is the difference in drinks. We both ordered an "amazing lemonade" but the tastes were completely different. Mine came from the tea bar and basically tasted like sugar water while my partner had one that was made in the restaurant and was perfectly balanced with the cucumber and lemon. Perfect way to start the new year with a great and deserving 5 star review. This place was amazing! The vibes from the second we walked in were great. We were greeted right away with a welcoming smile and sat perfectly in a honeycomb. Our server was great, she explained the menu and answered any questions we had. Excellent ramen place that I visited with my wife today. The staff is very friendly and the seating is unique. It almost looks like a honeycomb with the different levels being on top of each other. My wife had a tea from the place next door and has had one from there before and loved it. She had the number one here after the staff recommended it as something that was not spicy. She enjoyed her bowl, though she was not a fan of the egg or kelp. I had the yin yang bowl which has a spice and a bland side and it was excellent. I liked the spicy side better and next time we come and I am going to get something completely spicy. It is nice that they have non spicy options for people like my wife who don't like spice. The shrimp tempura and pork was great, though next time I will be more daring and get the eel. Lots of variety here and the price was not bad. My main issue was that it was so cold and it felt like there was a fan on me the entire time. I sat in the open area and not in a little private booth, so maybe those would be better. As for the food, I got the tonkatsu with black garlic. The broth was bland and tasted very generically commercialized. Tonkatsu is the standard broth so it should have been done well. I don't know how they got the lovely broth color right without the flavor. It isn't horrible, but it also isn't something I would order again. The skewers, on the other hand, were definitely well seasoned and tasty, but the amount of meat on a skewer isn't worth the price. Despite the flavorless tonkatsu, I would try this place again, but maybe next time I will try the miso broth and hope for more flavor. read more

My all time favorite ramen place with boba drinks right next by, you can actually order from the restaurant as well. Ramen noodles on their menu is always consistently good and tasty. We love their garlic tonkatsu ($1 extra for black garlic) the most! Snacks: tonkatsu is delicious with great amount of octopus in comparison to other places. visited kyuramen just before the winter storm rolled in. this spot has been on my list for a while, but i never felt like making the drive to chinatown. so it's super convenient that they opened a location in the woodlands! :) i ordered the black garlic tokyo tonkotsu shouyu ramen ($16.99), which came with chashu pork, half a marinated egg, corn, bamboo shoots, wakame, scallions, and nori. i also added two appetizers: the butabara (pork belly, $2.99) and gyu harami (beef skirt, $3.99). the pork belly was pretty good--juicy and flavorful. the beef skirt, on the other hand, was just okay. it was a little dry and nothing particularly special. the ramen itself was super flavorful and rich, though a bit too salty for my taste. one unique feature is the red stamp at the bottom of the bowl. if you drink all the broth, you can see if you win one of their prizes. i thought this was a clever way to encourage people to finish their broth. unfortunately, i didn't win anything--basically consumed all that sodium for nothing lols the dining experience was smooth and convenient. after you're seated, you press a button to place and pay for your order, so there's no rush, and you can take your time deciding. another cool touch is that this location partners with tbar, so they also provide a tea menu when you sit down--a smart move for this plaza. overall, kyuramen is a solid addition to the woodlands. the ramen is worth trying especially since there isn't a whole lot of ramen up in the woodlands area! read more
