Miso Soup
Sport S.

I recently tried this sushi restaurant for the first time and wanted to share my thoughts. I ordered some Miso Soup, a Beef appetizer, Escolar sushi, Salmon sushi, and the Pink Lady Roll. Overall, the food was decent. The Miso Soup was good, but the Beef appetizer didn't meet my expectations. It was overcooked, and the pieces were a bit tough. However, the sauce was tasty, and the dish looked nice on the plate. The Escolar and Salmon sushi were presented beautifully. They were cut well and of a good size. Unfortunately, the Pink Lady Roll didn't meet my expectations. The crab was chopped so finely that I could barely taste it, and I found it hard to find the avocado and mango as well. My husband ordered sashimi with Tuna, Red Clam, and Yellowtail. The presentation was impressive, and he enjoyed every piece. He said everything tasted great! Our server, Victor, was excellent. He was very friendly and attentive to his customers' needs. I never had to ask for a refill, and he frequently checked in on us. You can ask for him from Thursday to Sunday. Just call for his work schedule. The restaurant is clean, relaxing, and you can converse normally without speaking loudly. I will return, order other dishes, and give another review, hoping for more stars! Kyu is worth the trip, so please give it a try!

Such a great find in my neighborhood! I love the service here... Aubrey, she was our server, so pleasant and helpful and made really yummy recommendations. Our food came out tasting delicious and such good portions. I love this place! For birthdays, they will give you a deep fried ice cream complete with all the ensemble

The interior is nice and inviting and the staff is friendly and helpful. There is a TON of food to select from. So many choices and a very wide variety. We tried some of the appetizers such as the eggrolls, the veggie buns, and the salt and pepper tofu (which I especially recommend) as well as a variety of sushi. The food was good but a bit expensive. Overall not a bad choice for sushi.

My wife suggested we try it because I love sushi and she will tolerate something cooked of Asian heritage. This was our second visit. Never seems to be crowded, but always promptly greeted by the same young lady who does it all! Hostess, waitress and server. She is always very attentive and accommodating with a great personality. 4th star because of her! Sushi is consistently presented in a purposeful beautiful way. Sushi is fresh but lacks a bit of flavor compared to my favorite haunts in Houston.........my only reason for not giving them the 5th star. My wife does Bento Box selections and is always pleased with her food. The menu has everything from Japanese, Chinese and bit of Korean. Something for everyone. Food is good and worth a visit.

A friend of mine recently recommended this spot to me; he enjoyed their sushi and appreciated their freshness. I can trust his word now hahaha We got their sushi boat, recommended by our server/owner himself (Tommy). Wow! We were stunned. My absolute favorite obviously was the salmon still; however, the toro amazed us. I didn't get a single taste of fishiness, which is hard to come by - especially when you order only sashimi!!! We got the one of only 2 sake bottles from Japan that they had - Ichinokura tarusake. It had such a crystal clear and crisp taste. My favorite still remains the Drunkin' Whale and Snow Maiden, though. The ambiance was cute and a good spot to go for a casual date or friends get-together. The service/servers can be a bit salesperson-y for their top-notch items but then the quality follows through so you'll leave feeling satisfied!

The absolute best sushi I have had in this area. Hands down. Unfortunately I did not take any pics on our first trip to Kyu, but we will be back very soon to update this review. Fresh fish! Great selection! My favorite roll was the 1488 roll, but seriously everything we tried was delicious. The ambiance is nice, and the restaurant was quiet when we dined near opening time on a Saturday. I found the pricing to be very fair and the menu was larger than most sushi places around. Our waiter offered suggestions and checked on us frequently. Japanese soda is available which is always a hit with my kids. Try Kyu, you won't be disappointed! Edit: here are a couple pics from our second trip. Just as good!

Nice place: Beautiful bar, Christmas music on, service was fast and attentive. I really liked being given the remote control to the TV, and changing the channels. Orange Dragon roll and Edamame with hot sake was OK. There was even concern about whether I'd choose regular or low salt soy sauce. Great Service. So why the missing star? I arrived during HAPPY HOUR. Nobody else at the bar, few at tables, but did not feel happy. I've said it before: I don't leave home to sit at a bar for efficient service. I can do this at home. I want FRIENDLY service; "howya doin' buddy? Life treating you well? How's the weather? You like New England for Super bowl?" Its called conversation. I got NOTHIN'.

Visiting family. They'd been wanting to try this place since it opened A few months ago. We dropped by and we're so pleasantly surprised. They have a full menu with so many selections. A great mix of appetizers, soups, ramen, other selections and of course sushi Today was actually our second visit in two days. I guess we really liked it. Well maybe that's an understatement. We liked it so much we actually were craving more this second night. Last night we started out with the steam bun dumplings and another dumpling. Both dumplings were tasty and flavorful not gummy or tough. We then ordered the energy roll, the fantasy roll, the dragon roll, the Philadelphia, the soho, the energy roll. All were fresh, tasty and wonderful Tonight we ordered the dragon eggs appetizer and Yakitori. Both were very good. For sushi we ordered the Mexican roll a bit of jalapeño gave it a little kick. The Texas roll was flavorful. We then had the shaggy dog, the cypress, the crystal, and the energy. Each roll is as good as the next or the last. All of it is so flavorful with good bite and burst of flavor. I mean dare I say this is the best sushi I've had in all this area in all the years I've been visiting and trying different places. I actually have never gone back a second time to any of them. This is definitely a first, second and not last. They have a a drink menu that includes a variety of beers, wines and mixed drinks. They also have a great selection of deserts. Happy hour daily 11 to 6 and on Friday and Saturday from 9 to close. The staff is so friendly and efficient. The place very clean and unpretentious. I will definitely be back for more.

I had very high expectations for this restaurant after seeing all of the positive reviews online…read moreand learning that it had been recognized by the James Beard Foundation. I genuinely wanted to give this place five stars, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing overall. When we first arrived, there was nobody at the front to greet or seat us, and we waited several minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Service started off decent enough, but once our food arrived, it felt like we were completely forgotten. Nobody checked on our table afterward, we never received water refills, and our server was essentially unavailable for the rest of the meal. We were also seated next to an extremely loud party that was yelling throughout dinner. We wanted to request another table because it was disrupting the experience, but our server never returned to our section, so we never had the opportunity to ask. For a restaurant that presents itself as high caliber, I was surprised that management allowed such a disruptive atmosphere to continue. As for the food, the BBQ Pork Buns and Siu Mai were both very good. The award-winning Beef Rendang was easily the highlight of the meal and the best dish we ordered. Unfortunately, the Mee Goreng and Malaysian Fried Rice were major disappointments. Both dishes had an unpleasant smell and lacked flavor or seasoning, making them very unappetizing. Another issue was finding a bug on our table during dinner. I understand things can happen, but combined with everything else, it added to an already frustrating experience. We even wanted additional napkins, but again, our server never came back to check on us. Eventually, we became so frustrated waiting for service that we got up and paid the bill ourselves. Ironically, that was the moment our server finally reappeared. To make matters worse, gratuity appeared to already be added to the bill, which honestly did not feel deserved given the level of service we received. Overall, the BBQ Pork Buns and Beef Rendang were the only parts of the experience that saved the meal for us. It's disappointing because the restaurant itself is beautifully designed and has a great ambiance, which made us even more excited to try it. Unfortunately, the poor service and inconsistent food quality overshadowed what could have been a much better dining experience.

We started with the egg rolls and gyoza as appetizers. Both were delicious, but the egg rolls were especially impressive--they were packed with flavor. The gyoza was cooked perfectly and tasted great as well. My wife ordered the Volcano Salad and absolutely loved it. It was fresh, flavorful, and a great way to start the meal. For my entrée, I tried several sushi rolls. The Godzilla Roll was my favorite by far. It had the perfect combination of crunchy and soft textures with incredible flavor--you don't even need soy sauce because it's that good. I also ordered the Baked Salmon Roll, which was something new for me. I loved that it was served hot, and the flavor was absolutely spectacular. The service was excellent throughout the evening. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made our date night even more enjoyable. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back. Highly recommend Akashi!

A bit of a wild card... sometimes great, sometimes you're left wondering if you accidentally turned invisible. Tried the hibachi for the first time and... meh. Not terrible, not amazing--just kind of there. The shrimp was tasty, the noodles were decent, but the fried rice (my favorite part!) was a real letdown. The food was very good!…read more I was hesitant at first because some of the menu seemed to be fusion items. In a place like Houston, where you can get authentic Vietnamese food, this can be a luck draw if the fusion pays off. However, when I tried the food, it was a very flavorful and worth every cent I spent. Everything was very tasty. The wings were flavorful and crisp. It had a combination of crispy skin seasoned with a rich sauce. The meat was also moist. For a party of two, it was also very shareable because they gave six pieces -both drums and wings. I will say that you really gotta to get in there get your hands and face dirty though! (They did provide a hand wipe!) For the main dishes, the won tonic soup was very flavorful with sweet-and-sour elements with egg noodles that soaked up all this good flavor. The wontons inside were very standard. And the onion was added to provide some balance. Everything was very hardy and filling. My friend had gotten the vermicelli. Which came with crunchy egg rolls, shredded veggies, noodles, and shrimp topped with a fish sauce. It felt very light and refreshing with a balance of textures and savory elements'. Highly recommend as the number one and two selling dishes - it would just depend on if you're in a soup or dry noodle sort of mood. Service was overall fast and friendly. You have to pay by going to the counter. We had a newer waiter though, and it took him a long time to get our orders correctly and he had to get some help. Hopefully they're doing well, but overall, it's a very cute Homie little establishment. Seating fits around 30 around booths and tables.

On top of that,…read morethe noodles are definitely Northern Chinese style, which consists of rich earthy broths accompanied by hand-pulled noodles and your choice of meats. Dumplings are also a must when eating this style of food. The establishment is very new as they just had their grand opening. There is a very athletic man behind a glass window in the kitchen that will be rolling the dough and forming the noodles with your very eyes. Oddly enough, this makes the noodles taste better. Again, the noodles are freshly made to order and you can see them making it too. You can tell by the mismatched size noodles in your order. The dumplings will have a thicker skin than you might be familiar with. That is because Northern-style dumplings are formed with much thicker doughs. Rest assured, this will have no impact on the rich flavors of the stuffing! The table will also have their homemade chili oil. It is not that spicy but it will greatly enhance every dish you order if you dare. Overall a positive experience here for the price. You also save a bunch of gas money not driving to Bellaire ha ah ha ha.

Due to our large party of 9, we were seated at two tables separated by a low wall which was a good spot for purses, hats, etc. One table was new to the KBBQ experience. They really enjoyed it. The owner came by and helped with cooking, offering tips on the best way to handle meats on the grill. The equipment is better than what we've used. The griddle is a grate, allowing more of the foods to be in contact with the heat. (We're used to see the round grill with a solid surface and slits/openings on the perimeter.) The tongs are sturdy. The bbq exhaust is not fixed - it moves up/down so that it doesn't restrict maneuvering items on the grill. All these things, thoughtful in design for the best experience. Every spot on our table was covered with meats, side items. The food is very good. LA Galbi, Bulgogi (both Hawaiian and regular), Rib Eye Steak, Hawaiian Samgyepsal (pork), and plenty of sushi. If you like eggs, try the fluffy egg. Fried rice is always good choice. White rice works too if you want to savor the flavor of the marinated meats. The pricing is simple. No different levels for the types of meats. Service is top notch. There was always someone checking in. Everyone on staff is friendly. It was a great experience to share with the family.
