I showed our waitress and she said well of course there's a bone because they only use whole fresh eel. Bruh. I mean it's $12 for 3 pieces of tuna sashimi. I'd expect the food to be fresh at those prices. Then she quickly snatched it out of my hand and left. I did hear a soft sorry as she spun around. She went off to tend to other tables. But later in the meal I did hear her talking in the back with a man in Chinese about how a customer was complaining about a small bone in l their food. Guess she doesn't know I speak Chinese. At the end of the meal, I asked our waitress if she was the owner. She said no, quickly followed by a "the owner is not here today". Then I asked whether the owner was Chinese. Super duper long pause, followed by a soft spoken yes. Well, my favorite place in Memphis is also Chinese owned. I think many of the Japanese restaurants are. Ah well. read more

Because everything teetered right on the edge of great. --- --- --- So much of what we experienced here was good, but just slightly missed the mark of causing me to exhibit poor manners in the form of mumbling OMG with a mouth full of food involuntarily because I couldn't help but acknowledge the greatness. We started off with the Monkey Brains appetizer. I think it was fine, but wouldn't need to order it again. It was essentially a sushi roll that was very avocado heavy. 3.5 stars. My wife ordered the "Sushi A" lunch, which consisted of 5 piece of chef's choice nigiri and one roll, and we chose the Spider Roll. The Spider Roll is normally a pretty safe choice, but tbh, we did not love it. There was a lot of daikon in it and I prefer these without the soy paper. As for the Spider Roll itself, I would give it maybe 2.5 stars. And most of the Nigiri was fine: 4-stars. BUT, one piece was one of the best I have ever had. I actually ordered a second piece because I was so blown away: the Super White Fish (Escolar) was unbelievable. It tasted like butter fish at Roy's, but in nigiri form. 5 stars is not giving it enough credit. We ordered two other rolls: The Temptation and the Lion King. We enjoyed both, but again, they were just one note shy of amazing. 4.5 stars. Also, shoutout to the kids chicken teriyaki meal. I was snacking off of that myself and really enjoyed it. Even the fries were high quality. 5 stars for a kids meal. We walked in exactly the minute that they opened on a Saturday, so we were the only ones in here for a bit, but the service was prompt and friendly the entire time. We don't live in the area, and there's a lot of competition nearby when it comes to sushi, but this is definitely not a bad option! read more

I got smoked salmon nigiri and the nemo roll. Amazing! Personally not a huge fan of lemons in my rolls but that's just a personal thing, for the first couple of bites it was good then I got sick of it. If you like lemon, however, it is a great blend! My boyfriend got the ramen bowl (I believe chicken but I could be wrong as well, I had a few bites of the sides onto and it was good! I came here to have dinner with the family and we had a great time! We walked in close to closing, and hesitantly asked if it was too late to dine-in. The staff immediately ushered us inside, and happily sat us at a table. The service here was impeccable; each server had a pep in their step and a huge smile on their face. They were constantly checking in, asking for feedback, and overall just took really good care of us from start to finish. As for the food, it was just as good as, if not better than the service. There's a wide selection of Japanese food: Udon, Rice, sushi, soup, etc. Our table had a little bit of everything and the consensus was that it was all good. I stuck to the sushi and the main takeaway is: they don't overstuff the makimono and nigiri with massive amounts of rice. So many restaurants I've tried get the rice to fish ratio wrong. It's usually too much rice, but Komeya has got it figured out. As a plus, everything tasted super fresh, which was the perfect cherry on top. My favorites of the night had to be the Uni and Golden Hill. Komeya is going down in the books as one of our favorite spots for sushi in the area. Good food and great service. read more

It was very clean and because this spot gets a lot of traffic/busy (for good reason) they always had staff frequently cleaning the tables. It's not a very big restaurant, but there's ample amount of space/booths/seating. The lighting, ambiance and atmosphere is quiet, pleasant, and cozy. The food was SUPER GOOD! We started with pork egg rolls and onion soup. The egg rolls were so good, we ordered two rounds. The onion soup wasn't as flavorful as some Hibachi restaurants I've been to, but it was still soothing and good. I would definitely order both again. My partner also ordered The Crunch Roll sushi and she loved it. She compared it to our favorite sushi spot and she said it could give them a run for their money (lol). This was also our first time trying ramen. I ordered the Black/Garlic Chicken Ramen and my partner ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen. The Black Garlic Chicken Ramen was a little on the bland side for me, it was still good but I probably wouldn't order that specific one. The Spicy Beef Ramen was THE ONE. I would most certainly order this one every time I come back. It had the flavor and all of the right things inside (we also love the thin noodles they use). I just placed an order to go. I came into the store to place the order (I was at the CVS close by) and waited for my order to be made. I haven't tasted my food yet, but I wanted to comment on the service I received. There were two ladies who attended to me. One was taller than the other. The taller lady was pleasant. She seemed to want to help and share about the food I was ordering and give recommendations. The shorter lady wasn't as pleasant. She essentially told me that she didn't like the ramen there and was not really willing to help at all. When it was time to leave, I was going to grab chopsticks and she came to me and said she already put chopsticks in there, but her tone was not pleasant at all. She also asked what I was still waiting for. I told her that I had asked the other lady for something spicy to put in my food (mind you, I wasn't being impatient). She then goes on to say "you're going to have to wait because she's helping someone now" and I was confused because I didn't say anything to her. She (the shorter lady) ended up bringing the spicy stuff and when I said thank you, she didn't respond. I haven't tasted my food, but I hope it's better than the service I received. This review is solely based on the service I received tonight. The menu looks pretty extensive, so I might be back if the food I got ends up being good. You can select your allergic to shellfish and they will clean the cooking services for you. Really good roles and edamame had a nice garlic punch. What a pleasant restaurant. First, the tables and booths are setup so that you don't feel like you're too close to the other patrons. Since my hubby and I felt comfortable because of this we were able to relax and enjoy the delicious food. Second, the waitress was wonderful and was able to answer our questions along with making us feel like we were eating at home. Third, now the food review! The sushi was so fresh and flavorful. The presentation of our sushi was beautiful. We had the Zero Sen roll, Golden Hill roll and the Beef teriyaki bento box with the Sashimi upgrade. All the food was delicious however the Zero Sen roll was the best for us. It was very refreshing and the chef sauce that came with it topped it off nicely. Man, I'm so glad to have this new sushi place in Spring. We came here on Christmas and they had a Christmas special so we got to try a bunch of different menu items that we may not have otherwise ordered. The quality of sushi here meets my high standards - I've worked for two sushi restaurants, and while I enjoy sushi at most places, I am impressed by very few. Komeya is the first sushi place to impress me in quite a long time. We've already been back again since our first visit. The Yellowtail Jalapeño was delicious, and so was the Komeya Sashimi Salad. The Nemo roll and Spicy Twin Salmon roll were good, and so was the Waikiki, but the real winner to my fiancé and I was the Lion King roll. It was so yummy, and I don't think we'll come here in the future without ordering it. We also ordered (but didn't get pictures of) the Tiger Eye roll, which in my opinion is similar anywhere you have it, the Spider roll which was good, and the Amazing Tuna roll, which we really liked as well. Arguably the best Ramen and Sushi I have ever eaten and I have been to places all over Houston. They don't top this place. Waitress was a bit dismissive however, the best Sushi/Ramen places are typically this way. I had the Spicy Green Curry Ramen with Shrimp as well as the Yellowtail Hamachi. 10/10...sooo good!
