I also really appreciate that all of Kor's instructors are trained and certified through highly reputable, internationally recognized programs such as BASI and Balanced Body. Their training and professionalism truly show in the quality of instruction and the attention to proper alignment and injury prevention. The community here is just as special -- the owners, Rebecca and Paul, are welcoming and genuinely care about everyone who attends Kor, and the other attendees are kind, encouraging, and supportive. This is a review directed to a small population of people...those with EDS/HSD...Ariana is the person to see. She has time and time again demonstrated knowledge of the conditions and how that impacts me & my body. Before each session she checks in with me on how my body is doing that day and if I had any issues after our last session. She is able to adjust the session quickly as needed when my neck, shoulder, etc act up. She challenges me but is also very mindful of not pushing too hard. It has been refreshing working with her. I have only done private lessons at KOR, so I cannot speak to the classes offered. The studio is small and always clean. The clientele seem quite friendly. I love this studio! The instructors are amazing at guiding you through the movements so you are really engaging every tiny muscle. The classes are soooo good. I love the peace, the pace and how amazing i feel afterwards! My first experiencing Pilates was at KOR Pilates back I think in 2014. Husband Paul and Wife Rebecca own this small business. I started with Rebecca's Saturday morning class. She is so patient and has great positive energy. I then took a group mat class during the weekday at night which I had Juli Van Horn as an instructor. Another great instructor. I then gradually had private sessions with Juli using the reformer and EXO. After the Covid shutdown, personal medical and family situations, I am ready to go back to KOR Pilates. Clean, well-ventilated space. It's apparent that a lot of thought has gone into the studio design and the materials used. I took a Reformer class with Demi. She was an excellent instructor - thoughtful, encouraging, and safety-minded. The time really flies by and you can make it as challenging as you want or need it to be. I tried this class through classpass and was not impressed. I'm a regular member at Club Pilates and LOVE the workouts, instructors energy and equipment/setup. KOR is small (2 wunda chair, 3 reformers, 1 trapeze cadillac, 1 spine corrector barrel) and the concept of it is similar to curves-- you work out in each station for about 2 minutes before you move onto the next. Moira was our instructor, she's sweet and very soft spoken --- she walks around quietly with a stop watch in her hand and fix you a little here and there. For me personally, it's boring and the workouts were not challenging if you come from a place like Club Pilates. I feel like is best for an older crowd -- who needs to move around a little and meditate while doing it. Parking/Location: Place looks like it's in a neighborhood/apartment complex. There's a private lot with plenty of parking. There's two places for KOR, side by side in a different office- 1) with the reformers and other equipment for a circuit class 2) open floor for mat pilates. The 1st place is cute and homey with a small vintage seating area at the entrance. Music: disappointing, was played off a cell phone in the coroner of the room. I go through bouts of neglecting myself. I'm trying to be more intentional about caring for my health. As a beginner, Kor has met me where I am and encouraged me to challenge myself. I also have diastasis recti so I have to be careful. I've had physical therapy for it. The studio is inviting, clean, and they use nontoxic methods to maintain cleanliness. They're knowledgeable on so many levels of health and body. Rebecca and the other instructors at Kor know how to give me a great workout while helping me strengthen my body without hurting it. Their virtual classes are great, too. They give feedback and guidance. The transition has been seamless. It's refreshing to see them meet the moment during this time of uncertainty. I finally decided to cave in and let my wife talk me into trying pilates. (I have always suffered from stiff tendons in my legs and low flexibility.) We booked a private session with Rebecca and it was totally helpful. She was a great coach who offers constructive criticism and cheerleading in the just the right doses! LOVE KOR! I'm new to Pilates and was looking for a place where I could learn proper form and technique. I found that at KOR. The instructor, Rebecca demonstrated and then immediately walked around to check on everyone's form. I love that. I felt like I was having a private lesson...there was that much attention given to each person in the class. The studio is clean, calm, and inviting. It was a bit difficult to find so if you plan on checking this place out, then be sure to give yourself enough time to find it. I purchased one month unlimited mat classes for $49.00. No, that's not a new client special that's actually offered to all customers/clients. I was shocked by this amount. KOR is a small, very clean & welcoming studio tucked away on Warner Ave in Huntington Beach. I live 2 blocks away and have never noticed it! Luckily, they upped their advertising by offering a deal on livingsocial - 8 classes for $12. Who could say no? I know I couldn't! After I bought the deal, I wrote them a message via their website (www.korstudios.com) in the hopes of consulting someone about where to begin & which classes would best suit me. They called me back not more than an hour later & were so helpful! I started with their fundamentals course, taught by Kate Forst. She's such a pro! I felt completely comfortable and got a great workout. The next morning, my abs were sore (I haven't had sore abs in years!). In all honesty, I don't think I'll be able to afford coming here after I've used up my 8 classes, but they do offer free classes on Tuesdays, Fridays & Saturdays. BTW - you can check out their schedule & sign up for classes online @ their website. So convenient! read more
