After John and I picked a date and a venue that fit our style and budget, we began the real planning. As any bride would know, I quickly became overwhelmed. Don't get me wrong; I have been planning for years on my Pinterest Board. I knew I wanted something different, something not so traditional, and something that not only we would remember forever, but our guests would have a blast at. So, I pinned and pinned away on my Pinterest Board. I could not stop pinning. I think I may have been trying to avoid actually setting up vendors and planning for decorations, because I honestly did not know where to start. A wedding coordinator was looking more and more appealing to me. For years I followed, K&G events and Grace on social media, admiring the exceptional details and unbelievable set ups, I would call "eye candy". Two of my bridesmaids used K&G Events for their weddings and had nothing but positive things to say about their professionalism and style. John and I live in Las Vegas, but were planning a wedding in my hometown of San Diego. I also work as a night shift RN which I thought might make it difficult to coordinate phone meetings with K&G Events, but they accommodated us so easily. They took care of so many details with vendors and relaying information from the vendors to our venue officials. Grace and Cindy, made our "Boho Island Chic Wedding" come to life, from the amazing embellishments as centerpieces, to the beautiful dessert table, all the amazing lettering, the giveaway table, the cute framed quotes, and my two most favorite pieces of 'eye candy': our 'Boho Island' Sweetheart table and very Boho teepee and pillows photo-op that was set up outside during cocktail hour. We really were impressed with the food and so glad we went with Abbey as that was important for us to have really good tasting food. We had Emerald and Ivy for the florist and my goodness Mishele, and the Abbey team put together exactly what I pictured in my mind! I chose Sara because I immediately loved her outgoing personality and felt we clicked. She was kind during our meetings, and I truly believe she wanted my wedding to be successful. Unfortunately, as planning progressed, I often felt like I was doing much of the coordination myself. Several details from our meetings were forgotten, vendors frequently contacted me directly with questions, and I ended up handling tasks that I had expected my coordinator to manage. The biggest example was collecting vendor insurance for the venue, which I had forwarded to Sara months in advance but ultimately had to gather myself just days before the wedding. On the wedding day, there were also several communication issues. Some décor wasn't set up as outlined in my planning documents, guests weren't directed to sign our guest book, and my bridesmaids often stepped in to help coordinate. I had nine bridesmaids ready to assist, but they shared that when they asked where things should go or how to complete certain tasks, they were often met with uncertainty or dismissive responses rather than direction. Several members of my bridal party and family also commented that Sara seemed overwhelmed or disengaged, which made it feel like my wedding wasn't a priority. This was the BIGGEST issue. Everyone makes mistakes but to treat others as if they are a bother and that you rather be somewhere else...that's not good at all. I also noticed my wedding wasn't showcased on her Instagram like others. No pictures taken like her other events she put on her social media. I'm assuming I wasn't someone who fit into her aesthetic. That said, I truly appreciate that Sara showed up and helped keep the day moving. Wedding coordination is a demanding job, and I wish her nothing but success as she continues to grow in her business. I also want to give a special thank you to her assistant, SARAH DOWLING. She was incredibly kind, personable, proactive, and always looking for ways to help.
