My husband and I ate here our last night in Rome. It was by far the best meal we had during our trip to Italy. The Sardinian family that owns this restaurant are so welcoming. At the time of our visit in March of 2022, there were no menu or prices. Just the daily specials. It may look like your average neighborhood restaurant but L' Isola is anything but! Average when it comes to Italian food, specifically Sardinian. I looked on Yelp for recommendations after arriving in Rome were to eat near our hotel. There was two choices near the hotel, one to the right and one to the left. We walked to the closest one but was rudely turned away (trattoria Osti Matti) so we went to L'Isola and was immediately greeted by Joseph. Wow!!! What an awesome and incredible experience.The restaurant was nice and elegant but the food was the star of the show. We had the tuna carpaccio, riso and the gnocchi. The best I've ever had!! I went based on earlier reviews and was not disappointed. In a less commercial section of Rome- reminded me of TriBeCa in New York. Cool vibe. I arrived early and was met by Joseph, who is an amazing host. In Japan I always order 'Omakase' or simply leave it to the chef to showcase the best/freshest of what's available. Joseph was excited to showcase Sardinian cuisine. An amuse bouche with tiny clams on toast followed by Sardinian flat bread and a nice Sardinian white wine. First course was warm octopus and potatoes, second was spaghetti with clams and last was two large shrimp and sliced calamari in tomato sauce. The food was all hands-down amazing and the whole evening was unforgettable thanks to Joseph. If you're looking for 'non-industrial' food in a cool and relaxing place in Rome, you won't go wrong here. Highest recommendation. read more

I don't have the vocabulary to describe how delicious the food was with the right amount of flavor. I usually don't care for mussels back home in the States, but the mussels here are certainly the exception. Tender, not tough. Again, I can't describe the flavor other than I know that I'd order them again. The service was excellent and just the right amount of attentiveness. The owner was super sweet and very accommodating. He even offered us a small dessert plate even though we told him were were too full and couldn't order dessert. Wow. Blown away, such an unexpected treat. This place was recommended by the Holiday Inn down the street where we were staying. It's a family run business and they treat you like family with delicious home cooked meals. They're from Sardinia. So all the seafood is out of sight. I had spaghetti with clams and sautéed mussels, and it was easily some of the best I've ever had in my life. All homemade and fresh. The ice cream is also home made and delicious (served with fresh berries for dessert). We went here on our last night at the hotel, if I knew about this place earlier, I would have gone more often. read more

While staying at the Holiday Inn Express San Giovanni, we decided to try a small place that was a short walk on the same street. It was a quaint place with maybe eight tables and a patio area. It was past 10 pm but the host Josef was more than happy to serve us. It was a Sardinian restaurant. Josef gave us the traditional crispbread with baby tomatoes, basil, and olive oil to try. It was amazing. We ordered the entrecôte (beef steak) and grilled seabass. They were both good dishes, very simple preparation which allowed the pureness of the beef and fish to be displayed. The beef was accompanied by simple green with carrot slivers. The bass came with grilled zucchini. As mentioned a great place to try if you're at the hotel and don't want to go far. read more

For Americans, they say to go to a local Italian restaurant already full of Italians and eat there. We found this place down the block from our hotel, which offered a 10% discount for eating here. It was fantastic! There were five Italian couples eating there with us, and the food was amazing. The service was intimate and perfect. Everything about the meal was just awesome. There is a focus on seafood here, so if you don't like fish ... We spent two hours going course by course through the meal, and we left satisfied, happy and warm (thanks to the Sambuco at the end!). Excellent restaurant! Highly recommend! With the discount, the whole meal plus drinks cost us 54E total. Can't beat that anywhere in the U.S.! read more

I hope that you have learned some of the "GUARUNTEED DELICIOUS" markers at whatever level of foodie you are currently at. If you haven't, here is marker #1: Whenever there is a Mama in the kitchen you are in the right place! My significant other and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express San Giovanni (GREAT!) and the front desk recommended we visit this restaurant​. So we trekked​d up the street less than 5 minutes and discovered this one of a kind gem. We entered the small restaurant and discovered it was almost to capacity as there was a dinner party being held. The kind and helpful owner (son) greeted us and seated us quickly. He brought a well worn and comforting​ menu to the table with a free appetizer​ of oil, crisp bread with tomatoes​ and basil, and veggies. He helped as we explored the menu and didn't judge us for referring​ to the ​food we saw​ brought out at the neighboring table. We ordered the a bottole of wine, Scampi risotto, Mixed Fish Roast, and Linguine "allo scoglio." All of the food was made fresh by Mama in the kitchen and it was light, fresh, and delicious. We are hungry folks so a larger portion size would have appealed. This was by far one of the best experiences we shared in Rome. read more

This place is a must not miss if you are in Rome! From the moment we were greeted by Joseph until the end of the meal everything was phenomenal! We were brought some bread with tomato, basil , and olive oil to start. My husband ordered the seafood pasta and I had the Ravioli. We loved both of our dishes so much! The seafood was so fresh and the red sauce on the ravioli was to die for! We also decided to share the beef and was so pleasantly surprised how good it was cooked to perfection and seasoned very well. To finish we got the profiteroles and I'm glad we each got our own because we were blown out of the water with how good the chocolate was! We also ordered wine with dinner ( they have a great selection) and Joseph brought us some aperitifs after we were all done. My only regret is that we didn't find this place sooner but it made for a great last meal in Rome and we will be back! As a last note this place was very inexpensive for what you get we paid way more while in Rome for less superior meals. read more

The pasta with seafood was incredible! My wife and I both had grilled sea bass with grilled zucchini and the flavor was great! We planned on 3 courses but made it 5 because we didn't want to stop.
