It may look like your average neighborhood restaurant but L' Isola is anything but! Average when it comes to Italian food, specifically Sardinian. I looked on Yelp for recommendations after arriving in Rome were to eat near our hotel. There was two choices near the hotel, one to the right and one to the left. We walked to the closest one but was rudely turned away (trattoria Osti Matti) so we went to L'Isola and was immediately greeted by Joseph. Wow!!! What an awesome and incredible experience. The restaurant was nice and elegant but the food was the star of the show. We had the tuna carpaccio, riso and the gnocchi. The best I've ever had!! If your ever in Rome and near its location it's a must. Joseph will welcome you with open arms and you won't be disappointed. Un milione di grazie Joseph!!

We were recommended to try the restaurant by Luigi at the B&B Hotel, The service was fabulous and the food was better!!! All local produce and seafood!!!

I went based on earlier reviews and was not disappointed. In a less commercial section of Rome- reminded me of TriBeCa in New York. Cool vibe. I arrived early and was met by Joseph, who is an amazing host. In Japan I always order 'Omakase' or simply leave it to the chef to showcase the best/freshest of what's available. Joseph was excited to showcase Sardinian cuisine. An amuse bouche with tiny clams on toast followed by Sardinian flat bread and a nice Sardinian white wine. First course was warm octopus and potatoes, second was spaghetti with clams and last was two large shrimp and sliced calamari in tomato sauce. The food was all hands-down amazing and the whole evening was unforgettable thanks to Joseph. If you're looking for 'non-industrial' food in a cool and relaxing place in Rome, you won't go wrong here. Highest recommendation.

I don't have the vocabulary to describe how delicious the food was with the right amount of flavor. I usually don't care for mussels back home in the States, but the mussels here are certainly the exception. Tender, not tough. Again, I can't describe the flavor other than I know that I'd order them again. The service was excellent and just the right amount of attentiveness. Definitely a place I would come back to if I were to go back to Rome. See you again soon.

Excellent service! Joseph was very attentive and gave us very good recommendations of dishes! This place is a small quaint restaurant near Holiday Inn Express San Giovanni! Joseph gave us some yummy appetizer and yummy Limoncello shots!

Lovely restaurant with a great owner who was incredibly kind! The restaurant just opened recently but was packed to the brim for dinner...this is definitely a good sign. Walking distance from the metro and the Holiday Inn Express San Giovanni. Food is very reasonably priced! Definitely a great deal for quality and price.

I don't typically write review but I have to give this restaurant a 5 star review based on the service and food that we received. The food was great and the service was on point. The owner was super sweet and very accommodating. He even offered us a small dessert plate even though we told him were were too full and couldn't order dessert. As we left the restaurant he even walked out and bid us farewell. We were very please with the experience and would definitely come back if we ever visit Rome again.

The end of a wonderful meal!

What a wonderful evening! Family run restaurant that does everything right. Party of 6 had 7 different dishes and 3 desserts. Each dish was beautifully presented. The depth of flavors was remarkable!. House red wine is a winner! Whoever thought this place was closed missed a great meal.

For Americans, they say to go to a local Italian restaurant already full of Italians and eat there. We found this place down the block from our hotel, which offered a 10% discount for eating here. It was fantastic! There were five Italian couples eating there with us, and the food was amazing. The service was intimate and perfect. Everything about the meal was just awesome. There is a focus on seafood here, so if you don't like fish ... We spent two hours going course by course through the meal, and we left satisfied, happy and warm (thanks to the Sambuco at the end!). Excellent restaurant! Highly recommend! With the discount, the whole meal plus drinks cost us 54E total. Can't beat that anywhere in the U.S.!

Had the most amazing dinner on our honeymoon... stayed at near by Holiday Inn and a short 4 min walk lead us to this gem... amazing food and service.. quaint family restaurant a must go if in surrounding area.

We were staying at the Holiday Inn and were looking for a nearby restaurant and saw great reviews for L'lsola. We were the first customers for the night, sat in the outdoor area and enjoyed delicious food! Joseph was attentive and everything we ate was so good! Salad, seafood pasta, sea bass, and strawberries for dessert! As we were eating the restaurant filled up with locals.

BEST dessert I've EVER had !!! Can't remember what it's called but I remember just saying chocolate.. lol so good !!!

Our family of four was waiting to be seated when a local family of four arrived after us and was seated immediately. We were eventually seated right next to them, and they were served bread while we were ignored and received none. We ordered wine that was never brought to the table, and at one point a waiter who was not even serving us removed our wine glasses after we had already ordered the wine. The service throughout the meal was chaotic and rude. The artichoke dish was extremely bland -- no seasoning and no flavor at all. Most of the food was greasy and disappointing. To make matters worse, we were seated directly next to the kitchen where the cooks and waiters were loudly arguing throughout our meal. We understand that service in Italy is often slower and more relaxed, and we have enjoyed wonderful hospitality everywhere else during our trip. However, this was by far the worst service we experienced anywhere in Italy. We were even asked if we wanted the bill before we had finished eating, while the local family next to us remained seated comfortably long after finishing their meal. We left feeling unwelcome and discriminated against. Unfortunately, this restaurant seemed interested only in serving locals well. If you are not Italian, do yourself a favor and dine elsewhere. We absolutely do not recommend this place.

Then where do we get good authentic Italian food?? In our frustration I started asking any locals I can find. This young lady spoke enough English to let us know. She even had to call her friend for the location and name. It was not busy. The staff is older and looks like part of the good fellas cast. The decor looks like it too. Haha what an adventure. We were full from previous meal so only order two dish. Rigatoni democratic and seafood risotto . Omg this is it!! So delicious and tastes authentic . We took a picture with the owner I think and I told him he must be famoso! There were pics on the walls.

By the time we were seated, dozens of people were waiting behind us. We sipped an Aperol spritz and lemonade while we waited, chatting with fellow diners who raved about the restaurant. On a sweltering day, our kids were starting to struggle in the heat when the owner came outside and gave them mini pizzas breads. It was a thoughtful gesture that immediately made us feel welcome. Once seated, we ordered burrata, cacio e pepe, amatriciana pasta, pork chops, and fried artichokes. Everything was excellent, but the amatriciana was the standout--rich, savory, and unforgettable. The cacio e pepe was silky, the burrata fresh and creamy, the pork chops juicy, and the fried artichokes perfectly crisp. There's a reason people line up for Da Enzo. The food is exceptional, the atmosphere lively, and the hospitality remarkable. Without question, this was our best meal in Rome and one of our most memorable restaurant experiences.

The tomatoes were fresh and juicy but the burrata was a bit thick (referring to the outer aspect). Also the bread was a bit tough. The gnocchi was great, but again the sauce wasn't anything special Tiramisu, 10/10. This was amazing. It was sweet without being overpowering. The ladyfingers weren't soggy, and had that strong espresso taste. I would come back here just for this dessert. Also if you don't like cramped spaces, probably not the best spot. We asked for a table outside and the kind lady asked us if we had a reservation (oh oh). We didn't. No problem as we took our pick of one of the tables. Two levels inside with a small Bar in the back. Before we knew it, outside seating was full and inside also filled up-a good sign. We ordered a liter (ended up being too much but when in Rome...) of their house Red and enjoyed it. For starters, we ordered the Fried Artichokes (thick breading and will order the Roman style with garlic/vinegar next time), fried Zucchini and Suppli-Cacio Pepe. The Suppli was delicious and was enjoyed the most. For main, it was Pasta Carbonara (Guanciale )-Proper carbonara and the streak of not having a bad version of this dish in Rome continues. The sliced Beef with mushrooms was also delicious -super tender and thin pieces of beef (medium rare as requested). We asked if the Tiramisu was house-made. Our server answered, "yes, and I am the one who makes it." How could we not order after that?! One of the best Tiramisus we've had. Perfect balance of coffee dipped lady fingers with cream-delicious! Our Server was kind, attentive and full of hustle -she was covering a lot of ground. Don't miss this Gem if you are in the Prati district.
