Fraschetteria was a literal dream in the midst of touristy Rome. We could not tell which restaurants were good or not UNTIL we walked in and saw how small the restaurant was. You definitely need to make a reservation; we saw many parties get turned away while we were dining. Every item that we had was wonderful. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on this menu. We started with a really great Bruschette that was full of salami and drizzled with truffle honey. The Carbonara & Lasagne were great. The Porchetta was possibly the best meat I've eaten in all of Italy, you HAVE to get it if you come. Service was really great as well! Just be aware that you have to go down a pretty narrow staircase and that the tables are all close together. read more

YEAH this restaurant is that good. Very much a hidden gem for the Romans and a bit off the beaten path. Stopped in for dinner on our first night in Rome and had a reservation so we were seated within 10 mins. The inside is tiny, so if you're dropping by without a reservation, be prepared to wait. :) We ordered the proscuitto and melon with a balsamic glaze, a couple of aperol spritzes and bread was brought out as well to kick us off. Everything had such complex flavors and a full-bodied flavor palette, it was easily the best proscuitto I've ever had and definitely the best on my two-week European excursion (and we ate A LOT of proscuitto over those two weeks). We also ordered carbonara and lasagna both of which warmed me up from the inside out and made me feel like I was dining at Nonna's. I also ordered an espresso and the espresso abroad is just SO MUCH BETTER. Staff were super quick and excellent, especially by European/Italian standards where sitting for a while over a meal is the expectation. The interior is also so cute with wine boxes on the walls and little mom and pop touches throughout. On top of that the plating and presentation were super memorable. An extremely memorable dinner and we will be back next time we're in Roma. read more

Fraschetteria Roma isn't easy to spot, and it's not on a street you'd typically find yourself walking down. But trust me -- you're lucky you did. This tiny restaurant, with barely eight tables, served some of the best Italian food I've ever had. If there is one restaurant you need to go to during your visit to Rome, come here. Without a doubt, this was the best food I have ever had in my life. This restaurant is very small, so you should definitely make a reservation ahead of time. There are very few tables so it will be tight, but it is so beyond worth it. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly. You could tell that the staff was passionate about the food. The food came out piping hot and all of the pasta was fresh and homemade. The pasta was so good, that we ordered a second round. The lasagna literally moved me to tears it was that unreal. Please take my advice and do not skip this restaurant! read more

We tried to make reservations here just befire Christmas, but there was no room at this inn. So we asked for reservations for the next night. When we arrived we saw a happy group inside the door and down some stairs. It's a tight space and probably not for anyone handicapped. We were seated for our 8pm reservation instantly. We were given home made breadsticks and bruschette which were delicious. I ordered a zuppa di fagioli which was warming and delicious. My husband got spinach parmagiano. His goal was to leave room first their justifiablly famous spaghetti alla carbonara. I got the lasagna. They were both perfect. We had biscotti for desert. THIS RESTAURANT IS A MUST. Stumbled across this thanks to Yelp. I was in my last day of a work trip and had been eager to make my last evening count. I knew I was in the midst of touristy chaff and was desperate not to fumble dinner. What a total sleeper gem. Unassuming, tucked off a Via Vittorio Veneto, just around the corner of a small street, blink and you'd miss it, is this six table slice of Roma in a walk down. Price is unbeatable. Service is on point. An absolute masterclass in simplicity and restraint. I had the bruschetta pomodoro, Tagliatelle with mushrooms and truffles, house made tiramisu with espresso, and two glasses of white (which I ultimately bought a bottle to go home). I only wished I wasn't dining solo so I could have tried more. But, I will say that dining solo was my saving grace to get a table quickly. This was one of my top five meals to date. read more

Everything you could hope to find in a restaurant in a foreign city (for us). It is a tiny place, maybe 18 seats. Reservations are highly recommended. We didn't have them and found ourselves waiting outside though we arrived just after they opened. We had a nice chat with two other couples who were also waiting, one from Germany and one from Russia. That being said this is NOT a tourist trap kind of place. It is situated below street level on a small side street and was so much better than the touristy places on the main street a few steps away. The kitchen is on full display, and it had great food (Cacio e Pepe and Carbonara) coming out of it. Fresh and creamy and importantly for me...filling....Service was excellent. Probably the single best meal we had in two weeks over in Europe on a cruise with bookended stays in Rome and Athens. read more

Tiny gem of a restaurant tucked in a side street in the XX September neighborhood. Steep stairs going down from the street so accessibility is limited for those needing it. Extensive menu with delicious choices for appetizers, pasta, first, second courses, drinks, salad and dessert. Staff is small but service is polite and speedy. When I was there it quickly filled up with one person willing to dine on the stair landing so that says something. Seats about 25-30. Short walk to Trevi Fountain, 15 minutes or so. read more

This little gem serves some of the best food we've ever eaten in Rome. And if you're not familiar with this location, it's easy to walk right past the door! We were welcomed by the chef's wife who was also the person to deliver her husband's delicious food. The panzanella salad was incredible as well as the multiple pasta dishes we tasted. There are only about ten tables giving this place a very comfy feel. It's worth the wait if you have to! We will be returning here read more

Tried this place based on recent Yelp reviews praising the food and rating it as a 4.8 with lines out the door. Our experience was not as good. The carbonara lacked taste and was average at best. The noodles used were as large as udon in diameter. The Cacio e pepe was equally below average. There were extra additions to our tab like 5 euros for 2 pieces of bread, an olive and a cracker. 2 glasses of wine and a strange Caesar salad brought our tab up to $90. On the plus side, the service was good and it was conveniently located near our hotel. read more

On our 4th day in Rome we still hadn't had food that we would consider excellent, until this restaurant. It was fabulous start to finish. We started with black truffle bruschetta with Parmesan shavings. Next the lasagna- melt in your mouth delicious, followed by pork with a side of spinach- both prepared perfectly. When we arrived they had started construction so they were no longer serving food, just drinks. But the reviews were so good we went back a few days later for some drinks. Yes, it is a wine/liquor store. But the owner is so nice and friendly he sat us down at the small table out front and served us wine and a board of delicious Prosciutto. Glad we came by. If you are staying in the apartments near by you should stop in. read more

The menu is simple and focused on sandwiches featuring their famous porchetta so we tried two recommendations from the peppy proprietor. While waiting, I got a miniature bottle of Chardonnay and my spouse sipped a Coke Zero. The Traiano Porchetta sandwich (12€ - 4 stars) is an original creation of the out-going owner with a mighty Mustard-flavored blend of Roast Pork, Sun-dried Tomatoes, and Grilled Eggplant. I like mustard and, therefore, liked this specialty much more than my wife, but we ended up ignoring portions of the so-so bun. Pane & Vino Special Porchetta (12€ - 4 stars) was a huge sandwich with the sliced Roast Pork Porchetta plus Mozzarella Cheese, Grilled Eggplant, Grilled Peppers, Mushrooms, Lettuce, and Mayo on classic Italian Pane. It needed more mayonnaise or a sprinkle of balsamic and olive oil for my tastes, but there was no denying it was a hearty hero. All this is to say, while in Italy, I've had excellent cheese - and with vegan cheese being hit or miss, I went in a bit nervous about the vegan cheese platter appetizer. However, the cheese really blew me away: it was excellent vegan cheese and with great variety. The cheese on the platter had different textures and different flavors (including one with a delicious kick that I happily would've bought a block of) and did a great job emulating non-vegan cheese plates. I followed this up by trying their 3-d printed steak in pumpkin sauce. Firstly, the pumpkin sauce was incredible: I generally only tolerate pumpkin-based products, but I found this pumpkin sauce delicious - excellent flavor profile and perfectly complimenting the steak. For the steak: you definitely won't confuse this with actual meat, but it was still good and flavorful - and the texture itself was super interesting. It had the bit of a real steak but with layers and complexity. I'm very glad I ended up trying this. All in all, the dishes we ordered were all great - and really interesting. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone - even if you aren't vegan!
