Wow! What a wonderful lunch experience. A delicious aroma hits you as soon as you walk in and go down a few stairs. The staff is more than friendly and accommodating. We started with some organic white wine and Caprese. The waiter added some prosciutto to it because we requested prosciutto and figs, but they were out of figs. Fraschetteria was a literal dream in the midst of touristy Rome. We could not tell which restaurants were good or not UNTIL we walked in and saw how small the restaurant was. You definitely need to make a reservation; we saw many parties get turned away while we were dining. Every item that we had was wonderful. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on this menu. We started with a really great Bruschette that was full of salami and drizzled with truffle honey. The Carbonara & Lasagne were great. The Porchetta was possibly the best meat I've eaten in all of Italy, you HAVE to get it if you come. Service was really great as well! YEAH this restaurant is that good. Very much a hidden gem for the Romans and a bit off the beaten path. Stopped in for dinner on our first night in Rome and had a reservation so we were seated within 10 mins. The inside is tiny, so if you're dropping by without a reservation, be prepared to wait. :) We ordered the proscuitto and melon with a balsamic glaze, a couple of aperol spritzes and bread was brought out as well to kick us off. Everything had such complex flavors and a full-bodied flavor palette, it was easily the best proscuitto I've ever had and definitely the best on my two-week European excursion (and we ate A LOT of proscuitto over those two weeks). We also ordered carbonara and lasagna both of which warmed me up from the inside out and made me feel like I was dining at Nonna's. I also ordered an espresso and the espresso abroad is just SO MUCH BETTER. Staff were super quick and excellent, especially by European/Italian standards where sitting for a while over a meal is the expectation. The interior is also so cute with wine boxes on the walls and little mom and pop touches throughout. On top of that the plating and presentation were super memorable. If there is one restaurant you need to go to during your visit to Rome, come here. Without a doubt, this was the best food I have ever had in my life. This restaurant is very small, so you should definitely make a reservation ahead of time. There are very few tables so it will be tight, but it is so beyond worth it. We tried to make reservations here just befire Christmas, but there was no room at this inn. So we asked for reservations for the next night. When we arrived we saw a happy group inside the door and down some stairs. It's a tight space and probably not for anyone handicapped. We were seated for our 8pm reservation instantly. We were given home made breadsticks and bruschette which were delicious. I ordered a zuppa di fagioli which was warming and delicious. My husband got spinach parmagiano. His goal was to leave room first their justifiablly famous spaghetti alla carbonara. I got the lasagna. They were both perfect. We had biscotti for desert. I knew I was in the midst of touristy chaff and was desperate not to fumble dinner. What a total sleeper gem. Unassuming, tucked off a Via Vittorio Veneto, just around the corner of a small street, blink and you'd miss it, is this six table slice of Roma in a walk down. Price is unbeatable. Service is on point. An absolute masterclass in simplicity and restraint. I had the bruschetta pomodoro, Tagliatelle with mushrooms and truffles, house made tiramisu with espresso, and two glasses of white (which I ultimately bought a bottle to go home). Everything you could hope to find in a restaurant in a foreign city (for us). It is a tiny place, maybe 18 seats. Reservations are highly recommended. We didn't have them and found ourselves waiting outside though we arrived just after they opened. We had a nice chat with two other couples who were also waiting, one from Germany and one from Russia. That being said this is NOT a tourist trap kind of place. It is situated below street level on a small side street and was so much better than the touristy places on the main street a few steps away. The kitchen is on full display, and it had great food (Cacio e Pepe and Carbonara) coming out of it. Fresh and creamy and importantly for me...filling....Service was excellent. This little gem serves some of the best food we've ever eaten in Rome. And if you're not familiar with this location, it's easy to walk right past the door! The noodles used were as large as udon in diameter. The Cacio e pepe was equally below average. There were extra additions to our tab like 5 euros for 2 pieces of bread, an olive and a cracker. 2 glasses of wine and a strange Caesar salad brought our tab up to $90.
