As far as outlet stores go, this one is pretty good. They have a wide selection, but not many larger sizes. Prices are still high, but keep in mind you're getting L.L. Bean quality. While living in Boston and traveling to work to Maine 30 years ago, the LL Bean outlet store was a regular stop. If you wanted a duffle bag embroidered with "Earl" or happened to get lucky enough to your perfect matching monogram on a towel, you hit the jackpot. As well, there were return items and the store was busting at the seams with great deal, usually 50-70% off regular Bean retail. Last week my wife and I went to Boston to visit our son and daughter in law and a we took a chance to slip away to Maine for a few days. Of course we wanted to hit Freeport and the LL Bean store. What we found was a city transformed to look like outlet villages found across the country. Gone was the big outlet on main street to now be replaced by a much smaller tucked away with some other chain outlets. We looked through the selection and found goods that appeared to be 20-30% less than regular pricing. We did find a closeout summer dress for my wife that marked down 60-70%, but it was a jewel tucked in a store filled with overpriced merchandise. Would I recommend going to the store? Why not it is LL Bean and a trip there for those that have shopped with the catalog is akin to Mecca. Just don't expect it to be a shopping adventure as it once was but maybe just maybe you'll find that return towel set with your perfect monogram. read more

This is the outlet version of LL Bean main store which is across the street. Unlike so many of the so called outlet stores you find these days, this place is the real outlet store for LL Bean, no really, what you find here are returns, mislabeled and short runs. The prices are excellent, but you need to to course be a smart shopper. They often will have sales on top of the discounted prices so look for those as well. Let's say you have your heart set on buying a particular pair of boots. Would you rather pay $100 for the boots or $80? Of course you would rather pay $80, and that is why you need to make the LL Bean Outlet store in Freeport your second stop - right after the LL Bean flagship store on Main St. The first stop is to identify the boots you want, and the second is to try to find those boots for 20% off or more at the outlet. I've had great success doing this with coats, Smartwool socks, camping gear and boots, but you really never know what you're going to find at the outlet. Of course it's still going to be a little more than at places like Target, Walmart, Old Navy or Gap, but at least the factory store discount gets it down to a normal price. And it still carries the same great satisfaction guarantee. Employees are friendly; one cashier went out of his way to run out back to find a better pair of shoe laces for a pair of boots I was buying. The store is a bit of a madhouse on the weekends. All the merchandise is packed so closely together that it's hard to share the same space with herds of other shoppers. And I don't know what's up with certain retail stores, but PUT UP MORE MIRRORS. If you are looking for a certain item at LL Bean, then you should ALSO make a point to check out the outlet. A 5 minute walk down the hill could save you 20% (or more)! read more

This LL Bean outlet is tucked away in the back corner of a mall off Maine Street, hidden so you cannot find it and get sucked into visiting the LL Bean campus with high retail prices on the other side of Main Street in downtown Freeport. Prices range from about 20% to 50% off their regular LL Bean prices. Not sure about parking as we walking across the street from the high retail LL Bean main campus. The next time I visit the coast of Maine, I think I will bypass Freeport completely leaving Portland, and head straight up the coast to Camden or Acadia National Park or Bar Harbor or Boothbay Harbor. read more

Today I had return the boots I purchased as a holiday gift for my daughter. We had accidently purchased a narrow size and Jon met us at the door with a smile. He quickly took our top and credited our credit card. He then followed us to the boot section and helped us find the correct size. He even took it a step further when he went out back to find the correct size he was unable to locate on the shelf. He noted that he wore his boots a bit bigger so he could have extra thick socks to add to the comfort of the boot. I have to say that it's a pleasure dealing with L L Bean. I recently returned a product that I'd purchased a few years ago, but I hadn't started to wear them until just under a year ago. For whatever reason, the back parts of the hiking boots began to come away after a few months. When I was passing through the USA, I contacted L L Bean, and sent the boots back to them, courtesy of a prepaid UPS label that I'm printed online. A few days later, someone phoned me to talk through the problem, and a few days after that, a brand new pair of hiking boots arrive. This is the store with the best deals of any of the outlets in Freeport. They don't have special outlet manufactured goods of lesser quality here like many other outlet brands so you're getting good deals on good stuff. They have some nice folks working at all the L.L. Bean stores and they are very helpful. Before you buy anything at the main L.L. Bean store you should definitely shop here first. I LOVE THIS PLACE. I never buy full price and when it comes to clothing I am definitely looking for deals. Every time I enter the store, it is well organized. There is always a buzz of associates putting away items, neaten shelves, or helping customers. If you have a question, ask. They will help and will do it with a smile. It's also an adventure because you never know what items are there that have been returned. An awesome rolling suitcase with some ridiculous name embroidered on it? Yes! Snazzy boots to keep your feet warm? Yes! Pet pillows, down comforters, sunglasses, socks, ski poles, PJ's, canvas totes? YES times 7! Are any of these items full price? HECK NO! Holy shit! It's expensive here! For an outlet, the prices aren't much cheaper than the main store right next door. Plus, the variety just isn't there. The staff is super nice and helpful but you are probably better off paying full price at the main store than dealing with the lack of variety and questionable discount offered here. Great shopping experience. Reduced prices of wonderful quality LL Bean merchandise. Mostly returned items or overruns. Some of the prices are amazingly good and some are just fair, but you just have to scour around to find the best deal. Friendly LL Bean employees as usual. I bought a $100 LL Bean jacket for less than $25 at the outlet, so not bad. Some $30 sweats for $15. A $20 bag for $12. There are bargains to be had, just have to look. It is busy and not organized perfectly and some of the sales prices are confusing, but it is an outlet. It is clean and there are no clothes all over the floor like some places. I love going to the outlet stores You can always find great quality at clearance prices my wife and I found two pairs of sneakers that we needed for the week. They were top brands at a super discount price . I wore them all week . Score ! We also bought a wind breaker that she loves and also wore the whole week . We are in town for one month on vacation and a friend loaned me his bike, but the handlebars were too low. I have no tools, not much skill with repairing bikes, so I took it to the LL Bean bike repair shop. A service representative named Bruce was so helpful!He immediately got out some tools, raise the handlebars, adjusted the brakes and the tires, and with a smile sent me on my way. VERY BAD RETURN POLICY!!! They charge $6.50 for return label. Ok, that's Fine. Customer service said you will get full refund if you return it at store. I returned shoes at store, cashier said since you paid via paypal we will mail you the check. When I received check after 2 -3 weeks, I saw return amount was less than what I had paid. I called customer service and she said they "accidentally" forgot to include tax in refund. BTW, this happened 2nd time with me. That shows pattern how they fool customers. Complete fraud. read more

When you go to Freeport you have to visit the LL Bean store, obviously. But when you are there and realize that you clearly need some duck boots, why not walk over and snag a pair for half off instead of full price? You still get the lifetime warranty and the selection but you save that scratch. There is also a large variety of jackets, pants, fleeces, outerwear, and camping gear for your enjoyment.
