I'm back again at L's kitchen, just a week after my first visit. Today, I'm here to pick up two bottles of wine I purchased after our very enjoyable evening at one of their Tasting Menu events. So, while here, I stayed for lunch and selected Pasta Carbonara. Now, this dish is a favorite pasta of mine. So while not an "expert' in all things pasta - I've had dozens of versions of Pasta Carbonara. Usually they're a small mound of deliciously cheesy pasta with a smoky pancetta and egg base. This version was different than others I've had - it was better and it was bigger! This will sit at the top of my Pasta Carbonara favorites until someone somewhere can knock it off. That's saying a lot for a small, French inspired restaurant, in Lincoln, Nebraska. But as you know - it's the ingredients and the chef - not the name and location that determines great food. Now let me tell you about their wildly popular Tasting Menu event. My wife and I attended with another couple. We enjoyed the five courses and the wine pairings very much. However, the highlight is the "theatrical" introduction of each menu item and the "story" that accompanies it. Lawrence DeVilliers, the owner and chef has a background in theater and you can really see and hear it at these events. He's funny, he's entertaining, gracious and unassuming in his approach to each of his diners. A true professional - both as a thespian and a chef! L's Kitchen is a wonderful place to dine.

    Light and airy environment.

Very good. Environment is so relaxing. I would recommend. Plan on revisiting. Visit was at 1130 am

Don't let the nondescript exterior fool you, L's Kitchen is a wonderful restaurant for fine dining. With a nice cocktail and wine list, plus a focused French and Americana menu, you will have a lovely date night here! Due to the small of the venue they are reservation only, so do prepare in advance. In my experience on a couple visits, walk ins are often turned away.

A beautiful blend of American comfort food and French cuisine. The table set up creates the tone for an amazing night. Went with a good girlfriend of mine and we split a bottle of wine, appetizer and dessert. Everything we had was amazing the service was attentive and felt just at home. Chef L came out and spoke to us and he was extremely kind and fun to talk too! Highly recommend.

Wow! Just wow. Between the amazing food and Chef Kevin singing in the kitchen this place is a MUST! Quiet atmosphere yet friendly and fun.

Scallops with risotto & asparagus. Perfection at a affordable price.

All were delicious and I would have each based on my mood. My starter drink was a Blueberry Mojito, which hit the spot. Rum, blueberry, lime, mint, and soda. Refreshing, mild, and on ice. My wife had a cucumber gimlet. "It was incredible." Food started with a unique "flight of three" soups. We each got to taste the Lobster Bisque, French Onion, and Roasted Red Pepper Gouda soups. We each picked the French Onion as the clear winner, but the others were expertly made and tasty. My entree was a starter offering, the Tuna Poke Bowl. Scrumptious, light, and filling. Served chilled in a stone bowl with chips. The Atlantic Cod and chips were great, with a couple of dipping sauces. Perfectly fried. The third dish was a lunch special, it was a pasta dish with sun dried tomatoes, roasted baby tomatoes, in a red sauce sprinkled with feta cheese. This was so good. We broke down and ordered desserts. The Green Gateau cake is chocolatey with a hint of pistachios. Also had the Apricot Napoleon Torte which is baked up in Omaha and is renowned. Service was superb, thank you Ben! with a relaxing atmosphere, classy decorations, and fun time. We will be back!

I didn't drink, but my friends had lots of lovely concoctions floating around. We shared the Parmesan Sirloin Fondue as an appetizer and WOW--this was a favorite. The house-made green chile cheese dip is basically a spicy, savory roux topped with crispy steak tips. It was rich, a little spicy, and incredibly satisfying. I really loved this and would absolutely order it again. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan, and it came with a nice, thick piece of chicken--always appreciated. The San Marzano tomato sauce was good and flavorful, and the dish was well-balanced overall. I'm a little picky about breading, and I didn't love it but flavor-wise it's spot on. I had total plate envy for the teriyaki steak bowl. It looks phenomenal and I will definitely be ordering that next time. One friend had the Moody Bleu Burger (without the jalapeños) and said it was still a bit spicy but tasty overall. Another friend ordered the Veggie Burger, and she said it was really good. She often orders veggie burgers and felt this one held its own. Someone else at the table compared it to the veggie burger at Leadbelly, with high praise. The Bistro Burger was also a hit flavor-wise--Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and mushrooms worked well together--but the only downside was that the bottom bun got pretty soggy. Fleetwood is definitely worth checking out, and it's a little bit tricky to find, but it's right under the bridges under O St.

We made a reservation for 5 PM when they opened on a Friday night. My first good impression of this restaurant was their well dressed and mannered staff. The hostesses and servers were ready for us! The coat rack up front is a nice touch too. We were seated next to the window with a beautiful snowy view of downtown Lincoln. Our server was so sweet and made sure we had a wonderful first dining experience. All of the food was fantastic. Our favorite dishes were the parsnip soup and blood orange toast. I think their menu changes monthly because it was printed. The drinks were okay. I got a non alcoholic cucumber "martini". My husband got a Moscow mule, but it was too tart for his taste. If we ordered drinks again in the future, we would try something else. Other than that, I highly recommend this spot! Thank you chefs for the amazing food and staff for a memorable dinner.

It's almost like they tried to make it more "fancy" (yellow bell pepper, herb sauce) when all you really need is the essentials. The highlight of this meal was definitely the french onion soup, it was perfectly burned with plenty of Gruyère cheese, loaded with onions. Pricing for the wagyu Philly ($14) is pretty reasonable as this came with a side. The soup was $8 which is a bit pricy for just a side of soup, although it was a pretty solid bowl. I also got a blackberry mule, it was okay but seemed a bit watered down. Service was pretty lackluster and the reason this review stands at a 2. We came midday past any viable lunch rush (130pm onward) so it was us and maybe 1-2 other tables. Taking that into consideration service should have been much better. Our server (he) was impersonal and unbothered by doing more than the bare minimum. Some of my sweetest memories are from bringing my mother here while she was still with us. We often ended up being the last ones there at closing because we were enjoying ourselves so much. Kevin and his staff were always incredibly gracious, never making us feel rushed, and consistently treating us like family. That kindness leaves a lasting impression. Reading some of the less-than-positive reviews honestly surprises me because our experience over the years has been consistently wonderful. We've always received excellent service, enjoyed the entertainment, appreciated the comfortable atmosphere and beautiful views from every table, and loved the nostalgia throughout the restaurant and memorabilia. And the food? Absolutely enjoyable every time. Considering the unique experience, atmosphere, entertainment, and very reasonable pricing, I think expectations should be balanced accordingly.
