I rarely give 5 stars. But...this was such a great experience. Fresh, well prepared food, amazingly kind service, deep wine list, pleasant ambiance, good value. As with other reviewers, the owner came and explained the menu to us. We were 5 so we ended up sharing 4 appetizers and 5 entrees. Had we known how much food it would be, we might have dialed it back but we wanted to try all the things. The predominant themes in our meals were red shrimp, mackerel and sardines. For starters we shared: The local red shrimp with salt and pepper. I cannot remember the last time I had shrimp so fresh. The flavors was amazing. If you're an American, be advised that these are head on. The anchovy balls with tomato sauce, like arrancini but with anchovies instead of rice. The tomato sauce was rich and flavorful as were the anchovy balls. The fresh local mackerel over salad with lemon vinaigrette., the lemon vinaigrette made the mackerel come alive. So good and substantial. And the eggplant appetizer which made for a nice pure veggie balance. For entrees we had the anchovy pasta, the red shrimp pasta, the local mixed grill of calamari, mackerel and jumbo red shrimp and the grilled tuna. We all shared each other's plates and I can't say there was a true favorite. The flavors were great in each dish. Finally the wine list....I want to say it was at least 30 bottles of well priced Italian varietals. We had the Pecorino which my son agreed was the smoothest nicest wine he had sampled. Hands down our favorite restaurant in Salerno and probably my favorite restaurant during our entire stay in Italy! We did a family style dinner and we ordered 7-8 dishes to share. Every single dish was amazing! The spaghetti alla nerano, mussels, cuttlefish & veggies were all fantastic. We had two other pasta dishes that were delicious as well although I can't for the life of me remember the names of those dishes anymore. I highly recommend this restaurant - we would have gone back several times if we had more time in Salerno. read more

Amazing dinner we had tonight! The owner was so excited to share his dinner menu with us and his love for his food clearly showed in the dishes we ordered. Highly recommend the anchovy pasta and the sea bass paccheria, they were both delicious and unique! The chocolate cake for dessert was so smooth and tasty, and wasn't too sweet. The white local wine he recommended for us was also delicious and was a bright complement to our dishes. Delicious and authentic! The owners/servers were great at explaining each dish and putting together a great meal. The menu seems to vary depending on what fish are there, but the anchovies with fennel and the mackerel salad were both great starters. We had spaghettone two ways for our mains and both were lovely. I wanted to go to Cicirinella, which is literally around 20 steps from the doorway of the BnB where I'm staying, so I got there right at 20:00, which is meant to be exactly when they open, but already half of the tables were occupied, and when I said I didn't have a reservation it was as if I'd taken all my clothes off and started screaming : the guy looked at me like I was insane. It did look very nice, though. Dejected, I set out for L'Unico. Night and day. Everyone was so friendly - no sneering when I said I hadn't reserved a table, and I was even given a choice of inside or outside. Everyone wanted to sit outside, which I did, but the inside was so cute that I later regretted my decision. The menu is that big, colorful thing you see pictures of, and the waiter (owner?) explains everything to you patiently, even though he does it over and over like Sisyphus. I got the linguini with eggplant and cheese (sorry - I did tons of drugs in the 80's and now I can't remember the names of anything) which was a specialty of Amalfi, apparently. It was great, albeit a little bitter from some greens that also went into the mix. I realize that this opinion is unfashionable right now, but I'm not a fan of bitter greens in everything. It's only a matter of time before you start finding them in your brownies and toothpaste. Anyway - I looked past the greens and through the cheese and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then I got the fish. I was charmed by the fact that the fish did have a name, but the waiter was evasive about disclosing it, because he said that it's VERY "local" and we'd probably have never heard of it. He said it was like yellowtail. Anyway, there were two fish selections that night, and you have the option of getting them grilled or cooked in a pan. Get it cooked in a pan. It comes with a sauce on the side that's mostly olive oil with some tomato-skin, or something, floating in it. I'm only just now realizing how ill-prepared I am at restaurant reviews. Sorry about my lack of epicurean vocabulary! The whole meal was excellent and it was only €35, owing to my sobriety. Thanks AA! read more

I absolutely LOVED this place. I came here on a Tuesday night with 2 friends and had a very pleasant experience. It's a friendly (and delicious) local spot. The owner and the 2 remaining waiters provided fantastic service. We had the fried shrimp & calamari, the linguini with zucchini and the linguini with pumpkin sauce with mussels and clams. Everything was very very tasty. Our Rosé wine and limoncello shots (with anis) were also very good. There's indoor and outdoor seating as well. Prices are moderate. My friend's birthday was at midnight and they stayed open for us and even brought out a yummy rum (or brandy?) cake with a candle for her! I definitely recommend coming here. read more

We strongly recommend NOT going here. First, my wife's pasta was terribly undercooked and covered in so much oil that it was practically congealing on top. She threw up later that night. If that wasn't enough, I ordered the mixed seafood pasta with mussels and other things. I ended up swallowing a piece of broken clam shell that was buried in the pasta and sauce. I found another piece so sharp it was like a piece of a broken beer bottle, and showed a passing waiter. He was shocked and told the owner, who was "gracious" enough to give me a discount that didn't even cover the plate I ordered and barely ate. It definitely wasn't worth the terrible anxiety I went through that night wondering if there was a sharp shell piece ripping up my stomach or intestines. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! read more

One of my favorite restaurants on the amalfi coast, and one of the reasons why it is great to stay in Salerno (more restaurants and better prices). We arrived before the opening to make sure to get a table as almost every table was booked, but most people arrived by 8:30-9pm. The waiters brought us free glasses of prosecco and took the time to explain the menu. The two seafood pasta we got (calamari and sea urchin) were delicious. The calamari one had a really intense flavor, it was one of the best renditions of this dish I have ever had. We were hoping to have a great meal here! We arrived at 7:05pm after posted opening hours and a staff member of the restaurant asked us to come back in 30 minutes after the restaurant opened. We were so excited to eat at this restaurant based on the excellent reviews and pictures that we saw on here; however, our experience was nothing like how everyone else described. We started with the zucchini flowers and they were very bland. My husband ordered a pasta with shrimp and when it came out it had clams and not shrimp, and overall the sauce was very flavorless. I ordered the pasta with squid and it looked exactly like the picture that was posted on yelp, unfortunately it did not taste even half as good as it looked, it flat out just didn't taste good. For the second course we split the tuna and overall it was pretty tasty (def had to add extra salt though), the only issue was that one half of it was a little over cooked. On top of all of that, the service was little to be desired. The waiter initially seemed great and he explained the menu to us. As the evening went on he continued to be less and less attentive....we had empty glasses of wine for over 20 minutes before we were able to get his attention to order another glass. Our total bill was 65 € and the food was not worth the price at all. It was a very disappointing experience for a dinner we were looking so forward to. read more
