Food and service were amazing. It was really special hearing that three generations of the family have worked there. The chef was incredibly friendly, and we had great conversations about the time he spent living in Idaho. The calamari was some of the freshest I've had, and the pasta was excellent as well. Not good. Tour guide organized our lunch here and recommended the lemon ravioli, which I ordered. It tasted very artificial and the shrimp were small and clearly previously frozen. Of note, the tour guide himself didn't eat here for lunch. Should have been our first clue. read more

Our host was amazing, he was very informative of the menu. our waiters were very tentative as well. There were a lot of different types of pasta, seafood dishes that were a specialty of Amalfi coast. ***Horrible Food*** ***Got sick from seafood*** ***Avoid*** We came here for dinner on a Wednesday evening. The tables outside were almost all taken. The prices are a bit lower than in other restaurants in Amalfi. We figured it's because the location is off the main square. We ordered the mushroom side, pasta carbonara, and local Amalfi style pasta. The mushrooms were good. Everything else was terrible. The pasta carbonara had a mushroom cream sauce which we guessed was leftover from the same sauce used in the dish for the table next to us. Everyone knows pasta carbonara only has pasta noodles, olive oil, one raw egg, and bacon. However the pasta carbonara this restaurant was totally different and had no taste except for the mushroom cream sauce. The local scialatielli Amalfi pasta was ok but had very little clams and mussels and they did not seem fresh. Sure enough, after eating, we both had terrible stomach aches and other issues through the night. We narrowed the source down to this pasta. There are so many other restaurants you can try that are far better than this one. Avoid the experience we had. read more

This is a wonderful little restaurant off the main path of the Amalfi Coast. After walking around some of the shops in the area, we found this place nestled in the corner and decided to stop in for dinner. It a very comfortable atmosphere! The owner instantly greeted us as if we were old friends. When we decided to try the mussels for an appetizer, the chef came out to tell us that the mussels were out of season for the area and had to be transported from Spain. Therefore, although they would taste fine, they would smell bad and he wanted to make sure that was okay. Of course it wasn't a problem for us and we later laughed because he was completely right. The mussels smelt awful, but tasted amazing!! We also split a pizza that was delicious. It's definitely a nice, small restaurant off the main road of the Piazza. I would definitely recommend it as one of the better restaurants we went to during our trip! read more

We came here twice in a row for dinner, and both times we had amazing dishes. The pastas were cooked perfectly, and the service was good. It feels like a family run business, and the owner is very friendly and attentive. My husband loved his lasagna the first evening, he loved the tomato sauce and the immense amount of cheese. He also really enjoyed his "scialateilli di mare," he loved the herbs incorporated in the home made pasta, and the fresh mussels. I really loved my "penne Arrabiatta," the pasta was al dente. I could smell the garlic goodness as I was being served. The fresh juicy cherry tomatoes in the dish were amazing. It's not spicy by any means, but I could eat a few more plates if my stomach had rooms! Overall, a quaint little place that has great home made food. read more

One thing you will find in Amalfi is that you don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get good food. Masaniello is prime example. Having dined at a few finer establishments in the area, this is every bit as good at half the price. Great pasta, homemade at that. Had the linguine with capers and olives. We went there for lunch and we left the place with disappointment. We ordered a Margherita and Pasta alla Bolognese and honestly it wasn't good at all ! The pasta alla bolognese sauce tasted like it was from a can. The pizza was not better. The dough was terrible and the tomato sauce tasted bad. A real tourist trap, here for the money, not the quality and the love of the Italian cuisine, such a shame for a supposedly " " Italian " " restaurant. Eh. Food was fine but ambiance was lacking. Maybe because I was early say 6pm attempting to get away from crowds. The manager (I guess) seemed frustrated and reluctantly let me sit. Que the scramble to get tables ready for the dinner crowd. Hey mgmt - by me sitting there I was already an advertisement to eat there. Just as that couple left and 15 mins later came back and sat next to me. The cook was the only one that was friendly to me. Bonus - when I wanted to pay credit I got a big "humph!" Geez! My husband and I are traveling around the world and never, never!!! been experienced such a terrible, unprofessional and unwelcoming service! The owner is extremely rude! He become very aggressive when we order 2 drinks and a pie of pizza to share . He was almost to refuse to take our order : " No sharing at my place! Its a dinner time and you have to order minimum two dishes from the main menu ! " Nobody is going to tell us how much food we have to order and eat just to make the owner's pocket to be satisfied. I will keep this short- the location was charming (away from the touristy center) the food was good. However, the service I received from the moment I asked if I can sit down to the point of leaving was horrendous. The waiter which looked to be the owner had the most unpleasant attitude I have come across in a long time. I can only think that the fact that I am American irritated him so much that he couldn't even hide it. I come to Amalfi every year but I will never spend a euro in this place ever again. We loved this restaurant! It is set back from the main square, to the left as you enter the main piazza in Amalfi. During our time in Italy, we found the best restaurants were off the main drag, and this one was no exception. The food was fresh and wonderfully prepared -- just like my Noni used to make. The service was great, and the prices were very reasonable. I followed the previous reviewer's recommendation, and found the prosciutto and melon, grilled veggies, and Filetti alla Livornese to be amazing. We went here based on the two earlier reviews and could not have been more disappointed. This place is a tourist trap for Americans. You could easily tell because the menu is in English and they play the American stereotype of Italian music (think "Volare" and Sinatra singing in Italian). When we left our appetizer of mussles nearly untouched, the owner asked us why we didn't eat it. We respectfully said we weren't very hungry. But when he insisted, we politely told him that we couldn't eat it because the seafood tasted old and was smelly. He got mad and started cursing and told us: "You don't know nothing." read more

We ate here on our first night in Amalfi after meandering around. We were immediately taken with the quiet intimate little corner of Piazza Dei Dogi and sat at a table outside. we ordered 1/2 liter of wine which was perfect for a 3 course meal to sip on but if you love your wine just get the whole liter it's very inexpensive. For dinner we had the tomato and oregano salad which was literally sliced tomato oregano and olive oil. So delicious if you prefer simple. Next we had the home made lasagna which was next level amazing with home made noodles sauce and everything. Also we had the spaghetti bolognese which was great because the sauce tasted so fresh. For dessert the tiramisu. It tasted so perfect with light creme and the wafers properly SOAKED in the liquor. So great and not too heavy of a dessert. This was our favorite restaurant of all we tried in Amalfi. We ate pasta carbonara, marsala chicken, and fried calimari; all were delicious!

The minute we arrived the service was bad. Our starters came after our mains. On top of that our calamari never came. When we left they were rude as well. We came back because my friend needed to use the toilet and they said we could not use it and then finally insisted they charge us for the toilet after we had spent 60 euros on the food. On top of everything when we left they swore at us. No smiles or thank you. The food was also a disappointment -edible but not good. Ruined our Amalfi experience being treated like this. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us and when told that it was local; we were sold. It is set off of a square, tucked back out of site under some scaffolding. Despite its odd setting, it was still fairly busy! It must have a great reputation. I would highly recommend the Parma ham and melon, tomato and basil salad, and grilled veggies for your first courses, as they were delicious and fresh! For the main course I had a dish called "Filetti alla Livornese," and it was AMAZING! This was quite a surprise for me, because I am not a huge fish lover, but this was a flakey fish smothered in a translucent olive oil and tomato sauce with capers and olives atop. This place does not even deserve a star. We ordered calamari and caprese salad to start off. For our mains we ordered the lasagna and the mussels. Our mains came before our starters. When I tried to make eye contact and get attention for a side plate I was ignored the entire time. We ate our mains and when our mains were finished we thought they had forgotten about the calamari as it had not come out and had taken a long time. We asked for the bill and he got mad at us and said our calamari was still coming. We waited and eventually he showed up with the bill so we paid and left. No smiles or thank yous from the owners or servers. The food was edible but a disappointment. I was expecting some flavor and some authentic Italian food. To be honest I have had far better Italian food in Canada. We then came back because I had to use the toilet. They would not allow me to use the toilet and I asked them this is how you treat your customers? He said fine you can use it for 50 cents...I said we have spent 60 euros at your resteraunt already. He then got mad at me and swore at us and told us to f off. This experience was awful and I wanted to let other tourists know so they do not deal with such treatment.
