I'm not big on muffins but my sister talked me into trying this place. Sure enough, I disregarded the protests of my increasing waistline and gave in. We tried a variety pack. Chocolate, banana, and a few other tasty treats were included. The muffin top was so moist and delicious. I usually only eat the muffin tops but for once I felt the need to eat the entire muffin, (even the boring part below the muffin top). There was absolutely nothing boring about these muffins. LA Bakery is a gem that we in Carson City are lucky enough to have in our own backyard. The cafe is wonderful and offers many gluten-free choices that are delicious. Not into that? We chose LA bakery to do my daughters first birthday cake last weekend. My brother in law had previously purchased some gluten free cakes from them and they were amazing. Knowing we wanted gluten free cake it was an easy choice. I'm military stationed out of town and was coming into town specifically for my daughters birthday. I emailed the bakery with a photo of the design I wanted and asked if they would be able to do the design in frosting and not fondant. We did not want fondant other than maybe some design pieces on the cake. The person I spoke said the photo was one of their designs so of course they could do it. The photo in fact was not one of their designs. I got the photo off Pinterest. There was no need to argue that so I just let it be. I told him that if he couldn't do it without fondant I would chose a different design. He again assured me the cake could be done without fondant. We ordered a two layer cake both layers gluten free. Then a normal vanilla smash cake. I paid over $300 for both the cakes. I ordered these cakes two months in advance. We were having the party in Reno so I had a family member pick up the cakes. My aunt sent me a picture of the cake to make sure my daughters name was spelled right. It was, but I noticed right away it was fondant. I chose to just address it later because her party was in 1.5 hours and I have severe anxiety, there was no reason to fuss over the cake that couldn't be changed in time. When the cake arrived it was horrible. It was lopsided the fondant work looked like a 12 year old did it. The fondant was covered in flour. This was not the work of a $300 cake. I was so disappointed. Again nothing could be done at the moment. To explain how lopsided the cake really was, my 4 year old nephew walks up to the cake table and asked if the cake was real. When we told him yes he said why does it look like it's about to fall over? If a 4 year old notices you know it's bad. The smash cake was perfect looked just like the pictures. My only complaint it's the frosting was hard as a rock. My daughter didn't even get messy because she couldn't get her hands through the frosting, even when my husband tried to smash her hand in the cake. The cake and frosting were wayyyyy too sweet. Inedible sweet. Everyone who tasted it said too sweet. The main cake flavors were gluten free carrot cake and the bottom layer was gluten free chocolate. Those cakes were both very tasty minus being covered in fondant. I would give one star but I have had cakes from them before that tasted amazing but if you are looking for a specialty cake with a good cake design this is not the place. read more

We gave this establishment another try today hoping for a better result from the last time. It was subpar again. 2.5 stars. Since our last visit, they have moved their restaurant to a nicer location. The building is new inside, with cute rustic accents. Unfortunately it is incredibly loud and completely distracting. If you are hard of hearing, you will have a difficult time in the main restaurant area, so I suggest going into a separate room that is off to the side. Also, during the winter time, as soon as their front door opens, a blast of freezing air comes in the main restaurant. Make sure you sit somewhere far from the front door during the colder months. Also, their seating arrangement is a bit strange as there are several tables near the ordering line. Inevitably you always have someone's butt in your face. Now for the food. We ordered the chicken Santa Fe sandwich, which is a hot sandwich. And we also ordered the turkey delight sandwich, which is cold. They were fine, but nothing incredible. The bread was extremely fresh though, which was a plus. There are no sides that accompany the sandwiches which is a bummer. We each tried their soup of the day, which was broccoli butternut squash and magical mushroom. We did not like either. Their desserts are definitely the best part of this restaurant. We did not try any today, but they look fantastic and they have a huge assortment for people to choose from. I have attached pictures for your viewing. All these raves........ only to be extremely disappointed. I bought 2 eclairs, 2 red velvet cupcakes and 1 miniature chocolate pie. What kid doesn't like cupcakes? My 5 year old and 8 year old opted for the red velvet cupcakes and both of them scraped the icing off and only ate the cakey part. I asked my daughter (8) what the icing tastes like and she said "let ice that sits in the freezer"... really? Yuck! I went for an eclair and I found A HAIR!!! Not sitting atop the dessert, but embedded within the chocolate layer that covers the top of the eclair. Honestly though... I expected so much more from this place. I've tried various items on the menu (Banatella Bagel, Tuna Melt, LA BLT, Chicken Santa Fe, Philly Cheese Steak Wrap, House Potatoes, Baklava) and I am always satisfied. The portion sizes are large, everything is bursting with flavor and the staff is welcoming. It gets pretty busy here so plan accordingly. There is an option to order online - take advantage! The Banatella Bagel is my #1 choice at LA Bakery. Banana slices, cream cheese, peanut butter, nutella and walnuts warmed together on a plain bagel - HEAVEN. I can't get enough. This is a great place for food - not just for delicious pastries and baked goodies, but for breakfast and lunch, too, I would expect. Based on what I had this morning, they have something for everyone! In fact, there were so many offerings, I was dumbfounded and stood over ten minutes looking at everything on the colorful menu up behind the counter display of all of these delectable treats! The friendly staff were happy to assist. Be forewarned that it is so easy to buy too much, as we did . . . We ordered at the counter to place our order. And it was so convenient that you hey have electronic pay here - fast and easy! The self-serve coffee was just a few steps away, and on the outside looked like your run-of-the mill coffee in dispensers. But one sip and I was surprised at the freshly-brewed coffee - nice and hot with a wonderful aroma - no skimping on quality here! We started off with a Greek Omelette and a Salmon Melt. Our orders arrived within ten minutes of ordering - pretty quick! And again, we were not disappointed with the quality of food. The Salmon melt just melted in your mouth, the crisply grilled bread giving texture to the soft, lusciously supple salmon, thinly sliced but piled high! The Greek Omelette so balanced - not too much olives, as many restaurants do, but enough to lend a robust flavor. I was delighted with the addition of crispy mozzarella cheese inside! Nice! And the house potatoes! Wow! I was expecting hard chewy potatoes, but lo, and behold! They just melted in your mouth! Crispy on the outside, almost like mashed potatoes on the inside - so fluffy! I surmise that they took the time to boil the potatoes first and then fried them to a delicate golden-brown crisp! Nicely done! And what authentic Greek dish would come without a nice salad? I thank you for having a small salad to balance out the meal - it really is the small things that make a meal enjoyable! The pastries! My, oh my! We ordered the Caramel Cake and the Banana Cream Cup. First of all, these pastries are HUGE! Perhaps a bit too large (is there really such a thing? The size would be enough for two, or even three persons to eat, and especially if you order a meal at the same time, we were too full when we began our desserts! But oooooooo, how sweet it is! Actually, the desserts were not overly sweet at all. Instead, we were treated to some wonderful flavors that you can both smell and taste. Because we were too full from breakfast, we were only able to have a couple of delicious bites before we reluctantly had to put our forks down. I really wanted to eat more, but alas, the meal did us in as we just sat in a wonderful food coma, not wanting to get up. This is a popular place, for sure! They have great food and yummy delights, and by the second hour of opening, the quickly filled up. Get here early for more quiet conditions, freshly-made treats and a great experience! The best of the worst. I went to LA Bakery because of the great reviews. Unfortunately, the reviews don't stand up to the experience. On my first occasion of ordering from this place, I ordered the pastrami sandwich and an orders of fries. The pastrami sandwich was underwhelming and dry. It lacked flavor and did not appear to be something made in house. Being the forgiving person that I am (because maybe that wasn't their best dish), I ordered a gyro sandwich and a tuna melt; but I received a turkey melt. But here is what I got for my human error: I called the restaurant to correct the order I made online thinking they would fix it before it was made. After checking with the owner, they agreed to make the sandwich I actually wanted. However, they did not tell me that my order had been picked up already. When the food arrived to my home, I noticed that the fries were cold and the sandwich was still wrong. Of course, I naturally wondered why they said they would fix the order when it had already left. But, whatever! I just wanted my order correct with hot fries. I went back the restaurant myself to have the issue fixed. I suggested they redo my entire order because 1. the food was cold when we got it, indicating it had been sitting there waiting until the appointed pick up time, 2. they said they would fix the tuna/turkey melt error, and 3. I wanted the food hot when I left. The wait staff (nice as could be) got the owner. The owner proceeded to lecture me and question me about the order. He insinuated that the error was my fault. I never denied that; and they said they would fix it over the phone. Then he tried to make me pay for the new tuna melt he told me (through his employee) would exchanged for free. He also tried to make it seem like we were late picking up the order. I assured him we were there before the appointed time. The worst part about experience is that the owner decided it was a good idea to argue with me in front of all his customers. I guess there is so little competition that losing customers is okay by him! Bottom line is the food at LA Bakery is not the best. It's more like the best of the worst in the area. Also, all I wanted was the order made right or to get a refund. The owner decided to give me a refund, and I decided to make my own sandwich and never go there again. What a great little cafe and bakery. This place excels at baking delicious sweet treats, as well as serving some very fresh and wholesome food. My two friends and I arrived for a late lunch on a Monday, and luckily, the place was empty; on a busy day, I can see things getting pretty crammed, as the space is extremely tight. For lunch, I ordered a half a VEGGIE SANDWICH and a cup of their daily soup, which is always vegan and gluten-free. The sandwich was just okay; there weren't enough vegetables on it for me, and it was crafted sort of sloppily. The soup, on the other hand, was some of the most delicious I've had in a while; each bite was a burst of rich, satisfying flavors. Do not skip on the soup here, as they are master soup makers, from what I've experienced. My friend ordered the FALAFEL PITA WRAP, and it was fantastic. The falafel was tender and not too dry, and it had a perfect amount of sauce to give it that extra punch. The pita was surprisingly flavorful as well, and tasted house-made. We promised ourselves we would skip on the dessert, but alas, the breathtaking display of all their picturesque pastries won us over, and we left with a box of one STICKY BUN, one piece of CARROT CAKE, and one LEMON BAR. The lemon bar was just okay; I found it a bit too sweet, and the shortbread was too thick for me. The sticky bun was very yummy, with layers upon layers of comforting, tender dough laced with some cinnamon and sugar. It was less decadent than most sticky buns I've had, but delicious nonetheless. The best of the three by far was the slice of carrot cake. This was some of the best carrot cake I've had in recent memory. The sponge was delightfully moist and the frosting wasn't too sweet. It was so satisfying and addictive that I devoured it all in one sitting. I will definitely return if I find myself in the area and craving a healthy (or sugary) bite. This review is based on only one item so please take that into consideration. I thought the banana cream looked gorgeous nestled in a chocolate cup all decorated with beads so I bought it for almost 7$. But it was mostly whipped cream with a few banana slices and the chocolate was not very chocolatey and seemed designed for stability rather than flavor. I might go back and try a cupcake. The restaurant was very busy with lots of diners. I love banana cream and it should have a pudding topped with whip cream. Just saying. read more

I was in Reno for work a few months ago and this place was recommended to me as a must try for their sandwiches and pastries. Upon arrival (lunch hour on a weekday) there was absolutely nowhere to park but I was determined so I drove around and around until someone finally left and I swooped up their spot. I knew I was in for a treat when I saw the long line...I ordered the tuna salad sandwich which was packed with tuna and topped with greens...extra greens for me. I also had a chocolate covered strawberry and a pastry which I don't even remember now as I inhaled both! The service was impeccable and everyone was super friendly. Next time I'm in town I'll definitely be stopping by again but next time I'll have a late lunch! read more

I'm writing this review about a problem I've had several times with LA bakery and again on Wednesday June 16, 2021. I haven't been back to this establishment since the pandemic first began. The last time I went there, I was completely ignored while I was in line, and even though I was the only person in line, I seemed to be invisible. The same thing happened to me on Wednesday. I know the server saw me because I got out of her way to make room for her go by and serve a patron their breakfast. As I waited in line, servers went back and forth behind the counter, and not one of them bothered to say, "Good morning" or "Hello" or "I'll be right with you". After standing in line a while longer, I finally got fed up with being ignored and left. I called the bakery when I got to work and asked to speak to the manager. I wanted to give him the courtesy of knowing why he had lost a customer. He was busy, but I was assured he would call back as soon as he could that day. Well, it's almost the end of the day on Friday, June 18th, and the bakery manager has not gotten back to me. It seems a shame that when restaurants suffered so much loss during the pandemic, they'd really be happy to see all their customers return. Perhaps you have to look a certain way to get any attention at LA Bakery as you do in Los Angeles itself. I don't know. Sadly, I won't be returning to purchase their delectable albeit pricey pastries. read more

The lattes are HUGE here and HOT. Don't always get that in a big mug (from other places), good till the last drop. Ordered wraps for breakfast, I had the chorizo with avocado , very good except instead of going lite on the cheese I should have done no cheese (sort of a large lump of mozzarella in the middle).
