Wife has the Light breakfast, our friends had a Cesar salad with chicken, the other had the hamburger. All our food was awesome, the service was excellent. Novel concept here, pay attention ... no one greeted us with the overused phrase " WELCOME IN." Hey folks STOP IT, stop saying "WECOME IN"! Anyway the tables were kept clean, the ice tea, water, lemonade never went dry. Refills were plentiful. The condiments on the tables were clean. The bathrooms were clean. Calamities used to be at the opposite end of VC. Now on the south end of B Street in the old Cider House. This straight forward home style cooking serves breakfast and lunch five days a week until 3 pm. Breakfast portions are substantial. Fluffy airy pancakes that require no syrup. Biscuits and brown sausage gravy bigger than a lumberjack's fist. And if you require a little adult beverage- there's several options for mimosas. Including a flight if you can't decide. And house made Bloody Mary mix that creates a drink that looks like a meal, but I was assured it was just an appetizer. If you slept in or weren't quite feeling like breakfast, there's a great variety of hearty sandwiches. My go to is the BLTA on your choice of bread. Fries are good, but I highly recommend the tater tots- they are tossed in crack, so you just can't stop. And don't ask me to share. The French dip was piled high with thinly sliced roast beef on a fresh hoagie bun. There's a great small patio out front, large dining room to the right or the quaint cafe like area you walk into. What a absolute gem of a find in Virginia city. It's a little bit of ways from the main downtown strip. The place has very unique decoration and the vibe here makes you feel like you've taken a small step back in time. Each table has a small bowl of various chocolates and candies. The interior decoration and exterior looks great. The food was better than expected with a lot of the items that are homemade. When I say this is the best food in town, I mean it. This adorable little cafe is a powerhouse and a must-try when you visit Virginia City. Everything on the menu is superb. Nothing frozen, everything is fresh, from scratch and made to order. They feature a full breakfast menu and a lunch menu. I've tried multiple things on the menu and nothing has disappointed me ever. They also have weekly specials and you must try the Huevo Rancheros (when available) made in house. You can't get any better in town or the surrounding towns. Huevos rancheros is one of my all-time favorite breakfast dishes, and I make a point of always trying it if it's on a menu. This one ranks up with some of the best I've ever had. This place has a little dining area inside off from the kitchen and a gorgeous dining area adjacent for larger groups. There is also a patio area to eat outside with the most cutest decor and you might glimpse a local kitten playing in the flowers. They have the cutest names for their food items as well. Dishes I've tried and loved include: Breakfast: The Cow Patty (chicken fried steak) Wild Bill's Breakfast (2 eggs, potatoes, meat, toast) The Norman Helloooooo (New York Steak) Pork Chorizo Potatoes (hello! Yum) *Breakfast things I need to try and haven't yet but include the Biscuits and Gravy (I have heard so many locals rave about this; I can't believe I haven't tried it yet) & Gold Rush (Orange Spiced French Toast) Lunch: Devil's Gate Dip: seriously, amazing, slow cooked beef French dip. The beef is so succulent, and the au juice is amazing as well with onions added. A must! Fried Potato Balls: just as it sounds, with a delicious sriracha dipping sauce. Onion Rings: Huge pieces for us onion lovers! The Italian: Another must! Delicious Italian salad: i'm a sucker for a good salad and I've been known to add the beef from the Devil's gate dip to put on top of the salad. And the Italian dressing is homemade and incredible! *Lunch items I need to try and haven't yet include the Sharp Shooter (chicken breast in buffalo or ranch sauce sandwich ), The Ringo (New York Steak Sandwich with blue cheese & mushrooms (be still my heart!) & Tombstone BLTA (and you can add freshly shaved turkey to club it up). Now let's talk about their Mimosas! They have amazing mimosa flavors! This isn't just your standard OJ and Champagne! They even offer a flight of mimosas, I have never seen that anywhere. You must try them! Flavors include my two favorites (Blueberry & Sunrise) as well as a Mango flavor, a Tropical Rum, Pineapple , and Strawberry. Seriously, who else offers that assortment of flavors? So perfect to wash down your breakfast or lunch with. You had me at mimosa! I'll definitely be back multiple times every time I visit my family in Virginia City. Their hours are 6 AM to 3 PM so you've got to make sure to go during breakfast or lunch and they are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The folks who run the place are great! We had our little pup with us, she was in her stroller, and when we were seated, our server asked if she could offer Mia (dog) a treat... which was a chunk of their House-made sausage (included in my breakfast sandwich - again, awesome!) My husband is a biscuits-n-gravy guy, picky and hard to please. He said that these were the BEST biscuits and gravy he had EVER tasted! (He's 74 years old and has eaten a biscuit or two over the years.) The biscuits are made right there each morning, and the gravy was to die for! We also shared a freshly baked strawberry muffin, which was excellent. We are looking forward to breakfast there on our next visit to Virginia City. read more

We decided to try the new Crazy Calamities for breakfast. You can have breakfast or lunch up till 3:00pm. I made a reservation for noon, but truly wasn't needed. It was not busy at all. I like that they had a fire going, I would have preferred to sit by the fire, the resturant tends to be on the cold side, but in the main dining room has mostly tables for large parties. There are two sides to the menu for Breakfast & Lunch. My husband and I split the Strawberry muffin and it was to die for. The waitress Susan said " they are super good the chef/owner (Misty) is an excellent baker" and she was right about that! My husband had the Bloody Mary it was spicy just the way he likes it and it had a meal of its own. We shared the breakfast burrito the bacon was tasty. What is super cute place! The people at Tahoe House hotel told us about it, but I also saw the reviews here before I ask them. There were a few choice breakfast places to pick from and we picked this place. Their food was perfect and the outside was so cute. We ate outside before it got super hot, but it's shaded. There's no air conditioner in this building either as I assume most buildings in VC are not air-conditioned. They have a small menu which is perfectly fine easy to choose from. My husband got the cow pattie and I got the wild bill. Love these names. Cow Pattie is chicken fried steak with gravy and eggs and potatoes. The wild bill was eggs, choice of meat, choice of bread and potatoes. We also got a side of their homemade peach crumble muffin that was really good. (Not gluten free, which I cheated) they have a full bar here too if you wanna mimosa or coffee drink. I definitely recommend this place ! Wow! So many times I read reviews that are too generous. Not this time. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs with chorizo potatoes. Eggs were cooked exactly as ordered, the potatoes were crazy good, and the gravy was amazing. It wasn't that typical boring white gravy. This gravy would be the star of the show if it weren't for the fact that everything I had was the star of the show. My bloody Mary was also great with lots of veggies. So for Mother's Day this year 2025 they had a wonderful limited menu, on this menu they had Chicken and waffles with hot honey.. Let me say it was DELICIOUS.. the chicken was nice and crunchy, moist, the waffle was the perfect buttery, slightly sweet and airy.. Now the Hot Honey was perfect. Not too hot and not too sweet, perfect temp to flavor the waffles and chicken without making them soggy. My boyfriend got his Fried chicken amazing as always. Walking back to the car, he saw a sign for food and drinks with a patio out front. Lots of options for breakfast and lunch, both of which are served until 3 pm. Had a avocado BLT with added turkey (real, not the slimy deli kind). Came with a side so tried the homemade potato salad. Both were excellent. Spur of the moment trip to Virginia City for hiking and photography. Extended my trip for a day so I could try this place out. Had the steak and eggs with chorizo potatoes - hiking all day yesterday, figured I deserved it. It was absolutely perfect as was the service. Prices are up and it wasn't any more than breakfast in Reno, not sure how they do that.
