My husband and I came here on July 4th at 3 pm and there was no line which was awesome. Downside of coming at such an odd hour is that they were basically out of all proteins except the chopped brisket and pulled pork. The chopped brisket was delicious and paired well with their pickled onions and the bbq sauces were top notch. Their outdoor patio is dog friendly which is a plus. The potato salad was just ok. I probably wouldn't get the potato salad again the next time I come but I definitely will be returning to try their other meats.
From Chicago, just moved to Kyle. We were in Austin and stumbled into lB for lunch. Here are some thoughts: -If this is average barbecue, then average barbecue in Texas is way better than great barbecue in Illinois! -There was a long line out the door on a hot afternoon. Luckily, they had ice water available. Line moves slowly. -Once we got inside, we were happy we waited. I got the beef brisket sandwich (9-10/10) with extra pickles and my wife got the pulled pork (7-8/10) with pickles and onions. -The beef brisket was so good it didn't need barbecue sauce : ) The pulled pork had a very strong pepper taste. -We also got a big pickle (4-5/10) as a side. I love pickles, but this one was average. -Service and price were both good. Highly, highly recommended!!
We really liked la Barbecue, although we weren't sure what made it worthy of a Michelin star. I couldn't find specifics when I looked it up. We realized the strategy was to order for pickup a day in advance so we wouldn't have to wait in the long line. We were 15 minutes late for our pickup time, and the food still wasn't ready. However, we waited five more minutes, and they gave us a full-sized bottle of barbecue sauce, which kind of made up for it. I also wasn't sure if they would've hurried up if we had arrived earlier. We ordered the sliced brisket sandwich, El Sancho Loco, and a pint of "shells & cheese." The sandwiches were really good, and the Sancho Loco sandwich was special in that it had chopped brisket, pulled pork, and sausage with red onions. The brisket was soft and juicy. The mac and cheese was great too. It had a unique spice to it from the poblanos. We enjoyed the tangy barbecue sauce that came in the bottle as well as a more smokey barbecue sauce that came in a small side cup. Our total was $48, and this was a good portion size for two people.
The food was good, the ambiance is questionable, and when you do finally get inside for service it was perfect. I personally didn't like the waiting period, most BBQ places that have an hour wait time are possibly under a canopy or have water close by or have somewhere to at least lean. This place had none. I am glad I went so I could check it off the list but I'd only comeback if I wanted to eat at an odd time of weekday and in the area. Pretty good coffee shop and brewery walking distance too!
It was ok. I gave it a little bit of a higher review because nothing was really that bad, but I was not impressed. It was good, but not Michelin quality. First of all, this place has a super small ordering area. While I appreciated the efficiency of the ordering once I got in there, they can only take one order at a time. This means that lines snake outside the place and it can take forever to order. I waited in line for about an hour. Not great, but not a dealbreaker. As for the food, the brisket and chipotle sausage were lukewarm by the time I got it to the table. I think they slice and handle the meats so much that it cools quicker. The meats tasted good, but the temperature might be the problem. The sausage was also way too crumbly, but it tasted great! The presentation of the meats could have been better, especially with LeRoy's doing it elevated. I really liked the mac and cheese. That was hot! I actually disliked the BBQ sauces. The original was fine, but the rest were too vinegary. People talk about the service being great. Maybe I was there on a bad day because the service was average. I didn't have an issue, but they didn't wow me. I also found out that I was supposed to get free beer? Where? Why did nobody tell me this? The one saving grace was compared to other higher end BBQ spots, this place was more economical. I paid about $30 for two meats, a drink, and a side. Not too bad! I think I wanted to like this place more, but was disappointed. I gave it a 4 because it was fine and had some good meats. However, it's not as good as LeRoy and I don't know why it (and Interstellar) have a star in the first place. It was fun to try, but I think I'm a one and done
I found bbq SO DIFFICULT to acquire in Austin, even though it's around every corner. The barbecue places tend to be so popular that they either sell out or are closed on odd days. We visited La Barbecue, unplanned, on a suggestion from a local friend. You definitely have to have patience as we waited in line for about an hour before ordering and sitting down. There is a line that forms outside in the hot sun as they only let one customer group in at a time to order at the counter . However, they are thoughtful and they have some complementary umbrellas to help shade you while you're standing outside. Once you get inside the process includes ordering at the register, paying at the register and they will bring it out to your table. We arrived and joined the line around 1 PM and eat around 2 PM. By the time we ordered they added three items to the out of stock list (including the one item I was interested in). The food was fine for me. I'm sure it's so popular because it's amazing to people that love barbecue. I did enjoy the mac & cheese and the slices of bread that I ordered on the side. Overall, give yourself some extra time for parking in the tight parking lot adjacent as well as to wait in line for your food. Arrive early maybe that helps with reducing the wait time!
I was so eager to try La Barbeque after its recent Michelin star acquisition! We got there shortly before 5pm but the line was already out the door and they'd run out of everything except pulled pork and chili. This was a bummer, but we made the best of it and had pulled pork sandwiches + a pint of chili to share. Pulled pork was tender and good, but the chili to me was the winner. Super flavorful and very delicious! Sides were average IMO - potato salad was too mustard heavy for my liking and black beans were just basic, nothing special. We didn't take advantage of this but they also offer customers free beer with the meal. Make sure you do your research and arrive here early if you want to try the chopped brisket which is what they're actually known for! We will be back to give it another try.
Delicious BBQ! I had the brisket and sausage and both were very flavorful and tender. I ordered my food ahead of time so didn't have to wait in line at all and they sliced it fresh upon arrival. One quick warning for anyone allergic to dairy - I had a reaction after eating this, I believe from the original sausage (it is fully my fault, I didn't even consider that a regular non-cheese sausage would have dairy so not blaming them at all) but just be careful and ask before ordering!
I'm grateful that they allow you to order ahead and pick up when you get there. The process was super convenient. However, my meal was hit and miss. The hits: Brisket - absolutely amazing. One of the best I've ever had. Mac&Cheese- I would come back to Austin just for this Mac& cheese. The misses: Sausage- skin was tough, it wasn't sliced and the meat was dry. One of the worst I've had from a bbq place-bordering on criminal. Beans- avoid! No flavor at all. Not even salt. I ate about as much as what you see on the picture. Bread charge- just charge me more for the meat . Why charge for something that should come standard. Not going to break the bank but it was weird. Was I glad I tried it? Yes. Do I recommend this place? Yes as they could've had a bad day with the sausage. 5 stars for the brisket, Mac and ordering ahead (with no minimum). The beans and sausage dropped it down to 3.
The wait was about 35 minutes on a Wednesday but well worth it. You only enter for service when given the signal and there is a no nonsense approach (which I loved). The turkey was moist, perfectly seasoned (no sauce required), and served on a potato roll. The chipotle slaw has the right amount of spice and was not overly wet! The shells and cheese was wonderfully balanced. While the location is small there is plenty of outdoor seating! And I can see why they earned a Michelin star - highly recommend!
My friend and I headed over to la Barbecue (that's pronounced L.A. not like lala land) after hearing that their BBQ is the best in Austin! Now when doing BBQ spots in Austin, everyone wants to know about the wait! We went on a Saturday right around Noon and ended up waiting 90 minutes in line to order. Their playlist was soooo~ good though! Myself and others in line were boppin' to Keyshia Cole & Billie Eilish which made the wait not half bad. The brisket is nice and juicy. Pork ribs were also nicely seasoned, plump and lovely. I really like that they had 4 options of BBQ sauces and enjoyed trying them all. Admittedly though I enjoyed the basic one the best on my proteins. The mac & cheese was spicy and so cheesy, loved this and enjoyed it as leftovers, too! And then I met my match. They only serve the Beef Ribs on weekends (Fri, Sat, Sun) and I so highly recommend them. Oh my goodness, it was the best thing ever. The thick crust was so full of well seasoned flavor, it was heavenly. I wish I could eat this every day for the rest of my life. Open a LA la Barbecue please! :P Staff was nice, food was worth the wait and even the bathrooms were cool here.

La "mucho bueno" BBQ! Came here for the first time after hearing the praises about this place from my friend. We decided to share the sancho loco, ribs, and brisket. That sandwich had pulled pork, brisket, and sausage on it and it was delicious! Their brisket was tender AF and tasty and those ribs were huge. They suggested the shells & cheese for the side and that was great as well. I even enjoyed their pickles and bbq sauce. 10/10, would recommend. read more
We went to La Barbecue with family from Maine. It's their first experience of Texas BBQ. Waiting in line for them wasn't their kind of fun but my husband and I got drinks and enjoyed it. We ordered a little bit of pretty much everything on the menu. The nachos were AMAZING! I loved the pickled onions on it and all the different meats were delicious. The brisket was cooked perfectly, the pulled pork off the chain and the sausage was fab! The pickle had a bit of spice to it - not expected but great! The beans were very spicy - all these Maine people were dying from them lol. The potato salad was fab!! My mom was so excited about it she's going to make some at home with dill to recreate it. Lastly, so happy they had a TV so we could watch the UT vs Texas Tech game. Even though Tech lost, my family enjoyed watching Football and eating BBQ. read more
Cleanliness: 5 Quality: 4 Service: 5 Taste: 4 Came here after getting to Franklin's at 8am to a line I wasn't used to seeing there (but it was the day after 4th of July so maybe there were extra tourists in town). Was one of the first 6 people in line at la Barbecue when I arrived and so I appreciated that we were allowed to wait inside the restaurant with AC. They open at 11 but around 10, the staff started offering us beverage for everyone waiting; there is a mini grocery store inside the restaurant with even more drinks available if the restaurant menu items aren't good for you (a luxury you don't find at Franklin's). When it was time to order, i placed an order for 2lbs of brisket, 1/2 lb of the pork ribs and then 1 beef rib (MKT about 50$ bone in). I asked for some bread, pickles and onions after I noticed my order didn't come with them. They charge for those too. So I spent almost 200$ here and when it was time to eat I was so disappointed in everything EXCEPT the BEEF RIB AND PICKLES which are undeniably the best items on the menu!! The pork ribs are coated in their bbq sauce and honestly just don't taste good. Not sure how this happened since I was the 5th person to buy when they opened but our "marble brisket" was burnt ends. All 2 pounds of it... How?!? At 50$ I said to myself "this beef rib better be good" and it was. Tender, soft and fall off the bone good. Now I don't even like pickles but I got some here because I could tell immediately when I saw it that it was pickled in house. that was the best pickles I have ever had! Period. So I'll say this, Franklin's brisket wins but the beef rib and pickles here at la Barbecue is unmatched. read more
Never tried la Barbecue even though I've been in Austin for years. I've been on a Texas BBQ journey to find the best. This place does not disappoint. It's on par with Franklin's Bbq with less wait. Similar with Franklin's, you can order a few days in advantage if you don't want to wait in line. We came on a Sunday & the air conditioning was broken. Devastating in the Texas heat. That wasn't gonna stop us! We waited in line around 11:30 am & was able to get our food in 20 mins. If you get there around 12, the wait will be bad. Earlier the better. We got the Ribs & Brisket with a side of shells and cheese and potato salad & traditional sausage and jalapeño sausage. If you can't take spicy, do not get the ribs & jalapeño sausage. The jalapeño sausage has actual seeds in it & the sausage is so moist! The shells and cheese is not like a normal Mac & cheese. The cheese is like queso level & thick. The ribs are covered in pepper corn & in this spicy sauce. Brisket is moist & so fatty!!! I couldn't stop eating it!!! We did not like the potato salad. If you like the herb taste, you'll like it. read more
Again - another place that has a "fake" line. The line takes forever, but not so much due to the amount of people, but rather the slowness of the service. We got in line about 25 mins before they opened with only about 10 -11 orders in front of us, and it still took about 40 mis to get our food. It reminded me of the soup nazi Seinfeld episode where you are very regimented in how you order. They want everyone about 25 feet from the ordering station until it is your turn an you can walk up 1 at a time (only). The beef ribs (and the pork ribs) here looked very good, but we had to pace ourselves on this TX BBQ gauntlet and were opting for sandwich to break up the monotony of meat (squared). We got a regular brisket (sliced) and one with "frito" in the name with a couple meats, some slaw, and fritos. The regular brisket was the winner. The potato salad was also very good (but not as good as the "Slim chickens" chain), and a fairly small scoop of it. read more

Mediocre. Not worth the wait, especially since they only have room at the counter for one customer to enter at a time. Bricket was okay if you get a bite of the bark but without it, it's pretty bland and does not taste like prime meat. But the fat was rendered nicely. Ribs were like candy but again, most of the flavor came from the finish on the outside(sauce). Jalapeño cheese sausage was dry and just spicy. Not much other flavor came through. Mac and cheese was meh. Black beans tasted like any other black beans, no special BBQ essence to it. The kimchi was excellent. Like many boutique places in Austin, they have to do things weird. Like this place has no standard brewed ice tea only some Weird tea in a can that is labeled vegan or gluten free or whatever. Just serve tea! I've been to approximately 40 of the top 50 BBQ places in Texas. I think this one made the list. If someone were to ask me to choose between this place and Rudy's, without hesitation, I would say, "Rudy's". read more

We went on a Thursday for lunch around noon and waited less than 30 minutes! We were able to find a table inside so we must have gone at a good time! The employees were super nice and took time to answer our questions. We got a little bit of everything! Brisket, pulled pork, jalapeño sausage, ribs, brisket chili, mac n cheese, cole slaw, pickles and potato salad. They offer free beer when you checkout! All their sides had a ton of flavor. The jalapeño sausage definitely has a kick which I liked. My friends and I really enjoyed their brisket chili and the mac and cheese. We ordered all this for three girls and we had a ton of leftovers to pack home. I think the bill was roughly around $100. I think this is my new favorite bbq spot in Austin. read more

Just touched down in Austin and we were craving authentic BBQ. It was a toss up between another spot and la Barbecue and after this experience we were glad to have made the right choice. The parking lot is small but didn't have trouble getting a spot. In the lot also, is a food truck serving fish or something - cool, but didn't really care because my eyes were on the prize. We went in and found something else cool, it's a market inside selling bottles of wine and other stuff, I think - again, I didn't really care because I wanted some meat! So basically you give your meat order at the counter and they hand it to you instantly. While you can order a pound of this or a pound of that, I opted first for the Chopped Brisket Sandwich ($9.50). So damn good I went back minutes later and ordered a pound of ribs ($17.98). Gotta remember to mention, to the right of the counter you collect your food is a bar of several local beers on tap. Then I discover from one of the grillers that la BBQ has been doing its thing since around the 40's. How awesome is this place?! read more

Another bbq place to visit while in the Austin area. I have this place bookmarked for a very long time now. Finally had a chance to try it. They are only accepting online orders during our visit. Pick up is fast and efficient. You can sit to eat outside if there's an available picnic table. Brisket sandwich is tasty and they never skimp on that gorgeous, flavorful meat. I enjoyed my lunch before heading off back north. read more

Came here around 1:30 pm on a rainy Saturday afternoon and waited a little over an hour to order. The line felt like it went by relatively quickly. It's located inside a small grocery store and bar so you can order drinks or go grocery shopping as long as someone holds your place in line. I ordered the brisket, pulled pork and potato salad while my friend got the beef rib and coleslaw. The food was absolutely delicious and worth waiting in line for. The beef rib was HUGE and it fell off the bone. So tender. Her piece did have quite a bit of fat on it but the taste was really great. The beef rib was quite pricy (market price and she paid ~$40) so would recommend getting it with someone to share if you want to try other meats. The brisket was really flavorful as well. It wasn't as tender as I've had at other places but was still good. The pulled pork hit the spot. I like the taste of the coleslaw but wasn't too big a fan of the potato salad, too much celery for me. There is free parking in the lot and in the neighborhood behind the restaurant. read more
Solid brisket with killer bark. Some disappointments in other areas. I'd put la not quite at the level of some other places in central Tx (Snow's, Franklin), but within the upper echelon. I came with my barbecue-lovin'-daughter, who made the invite on a Friday night to go with her to la the next day. She'd been before and said the line was not that bad. I'd read the same thing. Au contraire (can you say that in a BBQ review?). We were in line over two hours, mostly in the parking lot on a brutally hot July morning (heat index of 105). It's not that the line was so long (and this gets to the maddening part), it's that the very friendly servers behind the counter seem to take their time - with each and every party they finally wave over to the tiny counter. Normally I'd flip for such attention to personalized service, but come on. Sooo painful waiting the two plus minutes for every two persons in line. Complete opposite of the machine at Snow's (where you're warned to "be ready" before you walk in the door). We got brisket, pork ribs, sausage (I think it was the chipotle even though we ordered regular - very hot), and turkey (which I didn't have so not factored in). I mentioned the brisket. Great "medium" leanness and oh-so-awesome bark! La gave us two sauces and I liked neither. One was more of a Texas type with a sweetness. The other more vinegary, with a hint of mustard - like a more eastern (ugh) sauce, but neither complimented any meats like they should have. Unfortunately the pork ribs were dredged in the second sauce - a total bummer. I wish I could have had them without. Nice and moist. The sausage was good, good consistency, but too hot and I think I got the wrong thing. A side of beans. I don't think I'd wait two hours again, but it was good, and I would definitely go for the brisket. read more

Not the best BBQ I've had (Salt & Smoke in St. Louis, or Joe's Kansas City BBQ) and the brisket cube samples that they gave us were fantastic but the wait in line was such a slap in the face to their customers. We waited over 1-1/2 hours. There were plenty of open tables despite a line down the street. Get that? They were fulfilling orders so slowly that they couldn't fill their tables DESPITE a huge demand. They only let in one group at a time to place their order and the two workers taking and making the orders were in no rush. Even one more worker would have decreased the wait by a significant amount, even more so if they worked with any semblance of haste. Ok, so that REALLY bugged me. There were no beef ribs available when we went. Also, the selection of sides was piss poor. The potato salad we got was small and meh. The pickles were great, though. NO fries? My brisket sandwich was the size of a small burger. Good flavor but meager portion. We came here because Franklin's had already sold out for the day and this was at 11:30 am. Does Austin really tolerate this behavior? read more

Decided to check this place out after receiving numerous recommendations to give it a shot. Went on a Thursday around 3pm and didn't have to wait at all. We were greeted with offers to try a free sample of brisket - a good sign! We ordered brisket, mac n cheese, potato salad, coleslaw, pickles, and beans. Everything was definitely very pepper forward. Brisket was tender and juicy, would definitely order it again! I really liked the potato salad but it's pretty heavy on the dill, so I recommend avoiding it if you don't like dill. The beans were ok but nothing special. I wouldn't personally order those again. Coleslaw had a strong (pepper?) flavor which was a little too much for me. Mac n cheese was decent. The pickles were AMAZING! The customer service was top tier and the restaurant was extremely clean. I will definitely be returning to try out some of their other options. read more

Info only. In line at 10:45 AM 12/26/21. At counter ordering at 11:25 AM. Order was 1 lb half fatty, half lean brisket, two pork ribs (best ever) and 1/4 lb pork. They put the frito pie separated out for my daughter. Great and friendly staff. read more

Online ordering only, we weren't aware of this but the food was ready five mins after ordering it so that went smoothly. They were out of most things by the time we got there, which was around 3:30PM. Favorite things were the brisket (of course) and the pinto beans! They have a kick to them and are probably the best beans I've had at any BBQ place. Potato salad was good but I wasn't super crazy about the amount of dill in it. Everything was packed right and tight so there were no spills on the ride home. read more

I loved all of the sides they offered. The portions I thought were more than fair for the price. This is definitely one of the more value spots for BBQ in Austin imo. The brisket was good but I'd give it 3/5 stars. Extremely fatty with less depth in flavor than I'd prefer. The sausage was unlike any I've had, the favor was good but the ground inside had an interesting consistency, was crumbly and the original was very spicy. Everything here is pretty spicy but the staff always explains and lets guests know which is appreciated. I love spice so I didn't mind at all. The staff is excellent, efficient and knowledgeable as well. I love that they pass out brisket samples as well. At 2 o clock on a Wednesday there was no line but even still I know it moves pretty fast. Still a great spot and I'll be back to give more items a try read more

Since I was visiting Texas, I wanted to try some good ol' BBQ. The sides and pork were savory. I just wish the meat wasn't too chewy and a bit more tender. Otherwise, I would come here again and again. read more
Best Barbecue in Austin and probably the world. A spiritual Food experience. The brisket and ribs are bliss. The rub and bark are perfection. I've tried so many over the last 8 years here and this spot consistently takes the number 1 spot over the rest of the stellar competition. read more

This was an amazing restaurant I usually always pass by here and see a line wrapped around the building. I understand why now. This place from the workers to the sitting spaces. I walked in and was greeted immediately and my wait was not long. He also greeted me with a sample. The barbecue was amazing and the brisket was nothing less than perfection. I was told that the macaroni and cheese was the most anticipating side and it was just, mouth watering and I fell in love. If you ever heard the hype please believe it. read more
La Barbecue is my only southern BBQ experience, but I thought it was delicious. Making things even better, this place apparently has FREE BEER... I had to ask twice to make sure it was legit, but the beer is totally free. Anyway, the food is delicious, with the ribs being a personal standout. I actually scheduled everything for pickup a couple of days earlier, then when we arrived we walked past the line and went through the door for preorders. I actually asked if we could eat on the patio instead and they said that was no problem, then they brought our food out to us on a big tray and gave me free beer. 10/10 experience. read more

This was the first BBQ restaurant I went to when I went to Austin and I loved it! There was a short line out the door, but wait was bearable. I think I'm a sucker for sandwiches and I got the pulled pork sandwich and it was really, really good. The meat was soft and the sauce complimented the sandwich perfectly. Along side the sandwich I had a sausage and brisket. All of the meat I ordered was really tender and juicy. Perfect. There's indoor and outdoor seating with a stage. La Barbecue also has a store inside for snacks and drinks including alcoholic beverages. read more

Wow wow wow! SUPERB. Let me break it down for you travelers. Traveled here for our 15 year anniversary and made a deal that we would not be cooking at all, lol. We had every intention to go to Franklin's as everyone raves about their bbq and we love good bbq. Well after not being able to try Franklin's I did some extensive research and found out that La Barbecue gives Franklins a run for their money so some say. COVID & CLEANLINESS The hubby and I are more than pleased and even had the leftovers for breakfast the next day. Let me break it down for you. We ordered curbside although the restaurant does provide outside eating and requires masks for COVID. The inside of the establishment is clean and so are the restrooms. They have a retail grocer side as well. Very cute inside and staff is nice. Meat is not cut until you arrive to pick up your order. We arrived an hour after we selected to arrive online but it didn't matter bc EVERYTHING WAS FRESH! Kuddos! FOOD BREAKDOWN This was more than enough food for two. We ordered 1 lb of brisket, 1/2 lb pork ribs, 1 regular sausage link, 1 jalapeño sausage link, side of smoked Mac & cheese, side of beans, side of potato salad, 2 different sauces. Ask for bread, pickles and onions if you want some. We also requested more crust on our brisket as I saw some recommended to in their reviews bc it's just that good! Yum! RIBS - Hubby and I try not to eat too much pork so we knew our pork treat had to be great and boy was it! The meat fell right off the bone and melted in our mouths. Hopefully I can post the video of hubby's reaction to tasting them. I even tried a bite or two cold hours later bc I'm weird like that and it was still on point. Super tender and juicy even after reheating the next day. Not too salty either. Sausage (Jalapeño & Regular) - BEST sausage I've ever had hands down. Very good quality meat blend which is why it cost almost $6/ link. It's worth it. I loved them both but the jalapeño link was my favorite as it had the right amount of kick from the spice. Not too salty. Smoked just right! Brisket (Extra crust) - Hands down best brisket I've had. Sorry hubby... they've got you beat on the brisket. Flavorful all the way through and not too salty. Fat to meat ratio was spot on. Great quality meat and the crust just helped to seal the deal even more. Cooked to perfection. You definitely do not need sauce for any of their meat bc they obviously know what they're doing when they smoke meat for sure! Smoked Mac & Cheese - BEST I've ever had. I make a mean baked Mac and cheese but their smoked Mac is on another level. Great quality ingredients put together perfectly. Heated up well the next day. A must have! Beans - Ok I make a mean baked beans dish at home but they've got meat beat and hubby agrees. Seasoned well and not too salty. The meat was spot on in ratio to the beans. Heated up well the next day. A must try! Potato Salad - I usually don't try other peoples potato salad bc few get it right. It was good. Consistent flavor and not too bold or bland. Would I order next time...not likely bc the beans and Mac were so good. But, let me be clear that it was not bad. It tasted good; I'm just very particular about my potato salad and wanted to at least try it. You should try it too. Overall I will definitely go back and now I can't wait to also try Franklin's bc so far La Barbecue is my Austin fave! They're likely both very good in their own way! It doesn't look like much from the outside. Highly suggest going nonpeak times for a shorter line and a place to sit. Beef ribs are only served on the weekend which was a total bummer! Pork rib was soft and tender, definitely a must try. Now the highlight is the brisket nice a juicy an even balance of fat and meat, highly recommended! Food is fantastic. This is a must try for anyone who is in Austin for the BBQ. Get there a little before opening, there's usually a line before opening. What stood out to me vs other bbq spots in Austin was the Mac and cheese, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I believe there's also a brewery across the street, can't go wrong with the pairing of beer and bbq. read more

There's always a line - usually at least 30 minutes. I've been there before opening and been the 30th person in line. It's worth the wait though!
Do they still offer free beer for those waiting in line?
Not since they moved to the brick and mortar location. There is beer for purchase from the Quickie Pickie and it's just as delicious as the Q

I've done it before around the holidays. But they're usually sold out by then. Just call ahead.
If I pre-order my food can I get meat by the half or fourth pound or do I have to order it in full pound increments? When I looked at the pre orders online it seemed I could only do full pound amounts
I'm fairly certain they only allow pre-ordering by the pound. But if you pre-order, they do let you eat it there as opposed to some other BBQ places in the area that you require you to take it out.
How's the lunch crowd on a Friday?

It's rare that they're open much past 4 and the preorders usually need a couple of days.
