Los Angeles is a full of exercise gurus and muscle-head maniacs. It can be overwhelming looking for a new workout class or regime that fits your life style. LA Beach Fit is perfect for me at this time. I love how organized the website is. You can set your schedule ahead of time and change it up depending on your availability. As of now, class times are limited to mornings and afternoons, but the more members LABF gets, the more classes they'll be able to add. The class is outside, at the Silver Lake meadow. Being outside is important to me. I love the sky and sun, and I want to be under them as much as I can. Why workout in some stinky gym, sitting on a machine covered in someone else's sweat. I'd rather workout in the fresh air, near the water. And the ducks who visit are too cute! What's also great about training outdoors is that you'll learn exercises you can do on your own, without a gym, without equipment. I did some of my workouts in my hotel room while traveling and felt great afterwards. The trainers are great guys. Adam is very nurturing and truly wants you to succeed. The classes have a small amount of students for now, so it's almost like having a personal trainer. Damian, the other trainer, works at a different pace than Adam, but is equally attentive and excited to see his students grow. The contrast between the two trainers makes for a well balanced workout regime. Both trainers will get you strong. Both will make you sweat. If you want to get fit, outside, with cool people, give LABF a try. The classes are good for people at any fitness level, so you shouldn't feel too behind or too ahead. I've never taken a bootcamp class before til I took this one. It was recommended by friends so I signed up for a month to try it out. I have usually worked out at the gym with weights but I wanted something different to get in much better cardio shape than I was in. Adam is relaxed and knowledgable, and he isn't the drill instructor type guy but still gets me motivated. A lot of what he does seems simple at first but it was kicking my a** for sure. There's different levels so people in the same class can do it at the same time and it works. It was cool that really anybody could join regardless of their fitness level. The Silver Lake Reservoir is a great spot as well. Adam is more than a "fit guy" he really is more into wellness and life long health and self improvement. I don't know what the other cross fit gigs are like but this one is excellent. read more

I've checked out a few local bootcamp classes, and I have to say this one was my favorite and the only one I was able to stick to for some time. I originally purchased a deal for classes through amazon local. Once the deal expired, I kept going back. They offer deals through their own website and facebook on a monthly basis I believe. I really enjoyed this bootcamp because the classes were fairly small so you always got 1 on 1 attention. I went in the mornings when Damien runs the class, and once you go for a while he knows how to push you and can gauge your progress. He would also ask about upcoming events and trips and use those to motivate you...I remember him saying, "Come on Kaitlin, Vegas in one week!" Unfortunately my work schedule no longer permits early morning workouts and I've been recovering from a broken foot, otherwise I'd still be going. I definitely recommend it! read more

Out of all of the group fitness classes I have attended in Los Angeles, this one is HANDS DOWN the best experience I have had since I moved here two years ago. From the moment we stepped on the grass (in the always beautiful, picture perfect LA atmosphere), Adam (the instructor) put us to work and didn't waste a second of our time. Although Adam made sure I was pushing myself during each set, he was very encouraging! The music was blasting and I was 100% focused on each workout. I think my favorite part of the whole experience was the encouragement I got not only from Adam, but from the rest of the LA Beachfitters there! They were all very welcoming and we were able to feed into each others energy to provide support. I definitely recommend this workout regimen. I am not a gym rat, and have pretty much stuck to trail running for my exercise, along with some haphazard home workouts. So when I moved to Los Angeles I was looking for an additional workout program to complement my marathon training. I've been to some of the morning sessions and they're a real blast. Challenging but not insane, friendly but not wimpy. Damien runs a great morning class that is fun and fast-moving without being completely exhausting. The other people in the class are great too, and everybody is there for a real workout, as opposed to "looking cool" in the gym. Along with the great atmosphere, of course, is that the class is held outside. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that exercising outside simply makes you feel better. As healthcare writer I know it infuses your brain with serotonin (feel good chemicals) so add everything up - outdoor exercise and camaraderie - and it's a great time. Although I got a Groupon for LA BeachFit, I'll definitely be back for more classes once the Groupon runs out. read more

I bought a 15 class package to LA Beach Fit as a sort of "New Year's Resolution" in December and I started classes in January. As a girl who'd never really worked out before, I thought it might help me to have someone show me how to exercise since I'd tried working out on my own for years and was never able to stick to a plan. After the first class I knew I found something I could stick with! I felt silly doing some of the workouts because I couldn't keep up at first and had to sit out for some exercises, but Adam was so encouraging and motivating that I've spent the past month going to 3 or 4 of his classes each week. Adam really makes a personal connection with you and spends a lot of time talking to you about your goals and your fitness and tailors each workout to your needs. When I couldn't successfully run one lap on my first class, Adam took notice and from then on introduced workouts to help me improve on my form, stamina, etc- and now I'm running multiple laps a class, no problem! I love working out outside as well- the classes are held in the Silver Lake Meadows Park and being out in the open definitely makes exercising more fun. My original plan was to finish out my 15 classes and then take it from there on my own, but after a month of working with LA Beach Fit I'm buying another month of classes! This is such great program and it fits seamlessly into my schedule- you can pick from early morning classes, late night classes, and weekend classes so there's no excuse for not making it! Adam and his team (I've worked with Damien before and he's amazing as well) are the best kind of "boot camp" instructors. They manage to encourage and motivate you to work up to your fitness potential without "barking orders." I never thought I could be one of those people who loves working out, but that's what LA Beach Fit has turned me into! read more

DISCLAIMER: I am friends with Adam, founder of LA BeachFit. I have attended classes at LA BeachFit since its inception, and can honestly say that it has dramatically affected my outlook on fitness and improved my life. Adam has a diverse background as an athlete, training in soccer, running, triathlons, CrossFit etc. Adam's methodology is largely inspired by CrossFit training, along with techniques by Tim Ferriss and other cutting edge pioneers in the health and fitness industry. The beauty of the class is in it's simplicity: start with a jog, some warmup stretches, followed by several timed circuits. No matter how fit you think you may be, you will feel challenged and push yourself to the limits. The class is different than the typical bootcamps around town because the training feels sustainable over the long term. So far, our team were not candidates for "The Biggest Loser", looking for a shortcut to losing 100 pounds as quickly as possible. We have been mainly individuals with some level of fitness, who want to push ourselves to being our best self and improving our overall fitness levels. I have remained committed to the class because of Adam. Adam's coaching style is low-key, not yelling in-your-face, like some might imagine in a "boot camp". When I fell behind the pack, Adam pushed me with encouragement that motivated me to do better the next time. His advice is practical and well thought-out. Beyond physical exercise, Adam has given me sound nutrition advice, introducing me to the Paleo Diet, that has significantly improved my health and energy levels. Every morning, I drink his recommended "Paleo shake" recipe, which is sustainable because it tastes great and has done wonders for my mood and energy. The classes are currently at the Silverlake Reservoir, but Adam plans to also hold classes at the beach, which will be more convenient for us Westsiders. To sum it up: L.A. I've tried a couple of different workout options since moving to the LA (yoga, gym, pop physique) LA BeachFit is by far the best program I've stumbled upon and I am so happy that I bought that Groupon. Classes are tough and on point without being unmanageable and in only 4 weeks I've noticed changes in my strength, endurance and energy levels. I am more than happy to continue this program after my Groupon runs out and that is saying something because the only class times I can make are 6am. Even though the 6am classes are bit subdued (I mean it's still dark!) Damien is always in a good mood encouraging us and chatting with us, even when we are still yawning at him. There are so many options when it comes to your work out in Los Angeles. I've tried Bikram, Pop Physique, Cardio Barre but the most fun I've had (and the most sore I've been) has been at LA BeachFit. I was hesitant at first because I've done "boot camp" work outs before and I really don't like being yelled at like I'm in the military but Adam, Damien and Colleen's classes are awesome! They are motivating and educated about fitness but they don't act like drill sergeants, just regular fitness coaches with positive attitudes. I'm having a lot of fun and seeing results! read more

Adam and Damien are both genuinely good people who not only make you work your butt off in class, but also create a community among BeachFit's members outside of class. Like when they have BBQ's that end in epic dance parties. Which are awesome and make you feel like you're around real human beings and not just exercise robots. For a number of reasons I've been a groupon/living social junky when it came to working out. LA BeachFit is the first one I've actually committed to. They take time to answer questions, help you find modifications if necessary, they keep it interesting and it's always difficult. I never leave not feeling pushed to my max and sore the next couple of days. And they're growing! They already have more time slots and different kinds of classes. COLLEEN IS AMAZING. She is seriously legit. I'm extremely picky when it comes to working out because I do it for health/general wellness, not at all for losing weight or inches. Colleen is very detailed about form and is able to describe AND correct it, which many trainers simply cannot. She really knows anatomy and body mechanics; I'm a violinist and have worked with MANY professionals who specialize in things to optimize performance, but most of them hold only a fraction of the knowledge Colleen does. Her approach is very holistic, not at all the muscle head-y "power through" mentality that you so often find in general fitness classes. If you are a performer of any sort (be it a musician or dancer or athlete or otherwise), you should definitely try her out. You won't regret it! I was the only person in her full-body conditioning class this morning (she also teaches kickboxing), and I cannot for the life of me figure out why it wasn't packed. She told me she started doing LA BeachFit recently so maybe the momentum just hasn't built up yet. Hopefully after a few more reviews like this she'll need a cart to haul those kettleballs to class! :-) P.S. I was never into group workouts, opting to create my own workouts and go it alone at some gym where I needed lots of equipment. That has totally changed as I was talked into taking this class by a friend. I basically get a better, more holistic workout, with a personal trainer. (it's a group class, but small enough that everyone gets plenty of attention) Adam knows what I need to focus on and tracks my progress for me. He is up to date on all things fitness and dietary and has helped me conquer many plateaus. I guess I would describe the workout as next-gen cross-fit. It's a great group to workout with, from beginners to advanced, everyone is supportive and laid-back. I get out of this what I put in. Which is way more than I can say about the previous gyms I have been a member of. My efforts are definitely maximized here. I am not working out too much, too little, or focusing on specific areas as much. There are tons of class time options and website is great. I'm not always thrilled to be outside, so I am looking forward to a facility is in the works. I am really glad I found LA Beachfit, otherwise I would still be sweating at the gym, paying way too much, and not getting the results I am now. read more

Love this class. It is fun and it definitely gives me a great workout. The location is perfect and is really easy to find. Going down on saturday mornings has been a great way to kick start my weekend. Adam is very knowledgable, he is extremely helpful giving out advice on nutrition and other workout routines, tips and tricks that I can implement to help me reach my fitness goals sooner rather than later. I have had so many great group exercise experiences in Los Angeles, unfortunately this is not one of them. I signed up for a 12 week program with LA Beach fit that was described to me as a total weight loss plan. I wanted to loose 10 pounds and lean up and this sounded perfect. They said I would have regular weigh ins and receive a customized diet along with advice from a nutritionist. After filling out an online form I received a diet plan, and started attending classes. The classes are held outdoors, this means you are subject to bugs, mud, hot sun, rain and there's no bathroom and certainly no place to shower after. I toughed it out through the classes, harsh sun and bugs, but the instructor was young and inexperienced. I hardly got a work out, and there was no camaraderie developed between the class participants. I never heard from the nutritionist, and during my classes the instructor never checked in with me or asked me any questions about the diet plan I received. This is an expensive weekly program that locks you into a contract. You could get a membership for Equinox for less take classes in air conditioning and have a shower after. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I recently moved here to LA from East Coast (New York! And NO I don't have an accent! You all do! ) and have done the REAL bootcamp fitness training when I was in US Marines. I have taken other bootcamp style classes since my military career ended, Honorably, and have to say Adam and Damien do a great job pushing you, each using a different style and approach that is motivating but none of the yelling and screaming or negative treatment approach. When LA beachfit moved in to their new indoor studio I couldn't have been more thrilled. I am not a fan of outdoor bootcamps because you can be held back due to things out of your control such as the weather. I have been taken in like family and Adam has really gone out of his way to make me feel comfortable in my fitness journey. Their 12 week program was just the right amount of commitment for me. I wasn't sure if I could do something long term, but for 3 months I figured I could really focus on myself. I'm glad I did and after the results I've already seen I know I will continue. I was just coaxed into attending some LA Beachfit classes at the Silverlake meadow and I am liking! What started as casual jogs around the reservoir has morphed into something far more punishing... and rewarding! Adam is intense where it counts, and really tailors his focus to every individual. I was in LA to visit a friend who suggested me to go to this bootcamp with him. Normally , I am skeptical about where and how I workout and scrutinize a lot when It comes to instructors but somehow It was very awesome experience overall. I like it so much that I scheduled bootcamps for the rest of time I'm over here. Pros: 1) Great personal attention to everyone by the instructor Adam. 2) He curtailed the bootcamp for each individual. 3) Great energy and kickass workout. 4) I tested Adam in terms of dietery, supplements and he was spot on in terms of what I need and should be doing. 5) Great Location. Cons: Didnt find any. Would highly recommend it for anyone who likes to stay fit and like good, detailed , personal cut workout. read more

I want to share the progress I have been tracking thus far. I learned about this weight loss tracking visual from the HalfSize me podcast/website. It only records weight loss- not the set backs or plateaus. In 12 weeks I have basically met my 1st goal of 155 lbs (down from 175lbs)! Yay! And I'm about 7 weeks ahead of the weekly goal of losing 1lb per week. The thing that I find the most fascinating is that I haven't felt deprived and even with a range of indulgence distractions, I'm still reaching my goals. I still don't completely understand how the meal plan works in theory, but it obviously works in practice! Adam, Susy, and Anna have been great trainers and I am so grateful for all of their expertise, encourage, and support. This program has been the perfect balance between meal plan, fitness, and coaching/accountability. An added benefit is that of improved strength and flexibility. read more

I am following up on Adam's reply to one of the postings, Elyse B. Please note the 95% of Adam's 4-5 star ratings are from people who live outside of the LA area. He may think he has his act together but there are still many clients who have not been refunded their money and trainers who have not been paid. If you want to get yourself mixed up with someone like that then this is the perfect program for you! I would have been thrilled to have seen success and gave Adam MANY solutions but he took the easy way out and asked me to stop participating in his 12 week challenge. I've been working with Adam for a while and have had a ton of success -- he's very knowledgable and practices what he preaches.

Please don't pay the fee up front if you try this program. I made that mistake instead of paying weekly and when work schedules changed and I could no longer make the morning class I was told verbally I would received my refund, received an email confirmation of a payment plan of the refund. I honestly never thought I'd be the type to get up for morning workouts, but they are now part of my daily routine thanks to Damien's kick-ass skills as a trainer, awesome attitude, and magical power to make morning workouts fun.
