This was our favorite meal in Nice/Villefranche-sur-mer! Found it in the Rick Steve's book and so glad we did! Run by a cute and charming couple who work hard to make the dining experience top notch. Confidently recommend!!!!

Absolutely wonderful experience at La Belle Etoile. The husband, Manuel (chef) and wife, Tamara (manager/server) combo delivered amazing food and 5 star service (as well as the other waiter). We had such an enjoyable meal and dinner to celebrate the last night of our 25th anniversary trip to the French and Italian Riviera. This is a hidden gem, located away from the more touristy plaza above the harbor. Book ahead! She had to turn away many groups because space is limited and this is a great find. Our compliments to the staff, what a memorable evening!

Set 3-course menu! So nommy! Prawn was à la carte.

This is the only true authentic French bistro in Villefranche. This establishment has been around since the 80s with multiple owners. The new owners are recent within the last year or so. We chose the set 3-course menu and ordered one of each option. Amuse bouche - Salade du tomate. Gambarons (ordered a la carte) Terrine du canard. Soup de poissons de roche de Villefranche. Veau (veal) et daurade (sea bream) for the entrées. Crème brulée et parfait de fruits. Tiny citron tarts at the end. I had a rosé, husband had a full-body wine. Everything was fantastique et delicieux! Highly recommend this lovely bistro which is just up the steps on Rue de May from the main centre. Will come back for sure!

The village itself is incredibly charming, and the restaurant feels completely integrated into its stone lanes and hillside setting. I had never been anywhere quite like it. Admittedly, I cannot remember exactly what I ate, but the meal was rich, elaborate, and left me ridiculously full. I do remember a salt-crusted fish special priced at roughly €300, which captured the scale of the experience. This is classic luxury French dining in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable. Beyond the meal, the entire visit felt special because the restaurant, hotel, and village all seemed connected. Walking through the old stone streets before dinner made arriving there feel like part of the experience. It remains one of the most memorable places I have ever eaten.

We were told that they would try to honor the early check-in upon availability and the room upgrade. We were told that they would call us when the room was ready. Waited until 3PM and had to go to the front desk again to see if the room was ready, it was and no upgrade. My husband was taking a nap due to the jet lag, and we put a do not disturb sign on our door. The front desk called us and woke him up anyways, saying that they saw the "do not disturb" sign but wanted to see if housekeeping could clean now. We found housekeeping staff to be rude as well. Now onto the worst service on property, which was valet. Not only are they unhappy to help you, but they called a taxi for us and forgot to load our luggage. We arrived to the Nice airport without our bag. The only silver lining here was breakfast, which was delicious and accompanied by a beautiful view. We can't recommend this hotel.

I've traveled the world over and have met many a barkeep. This refined gentleman makes the trip worthwhile as he oversees the bar area and pours a delicious drink- all the while making interesting and polite conversation with old world elegance. If you are looking for the slick modernism of a Four Seasons or a Mandarin Oriental, La Voile D'Or is not for you. But our older and charming room with views off the sea were just what made us very sorry to leave. Each day my wife and I tumbled out of bed and down to the stunning pool area where we were greeted by Muriel, Catharine and Isabel who reserved the best chaise lounges for us to gaze at the ocean, enjoy an impeccable lunch, and slip into the sea while ordering off of the refreshing cocktail menu. Such hospitality and service is a hallmark of this gorgeous jewel on the ocean and I hope I return at every opportunity. What a treat! Thank you to the gracious staff that made our trip so memorable each day. Absolutely the best!

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.
