This place is a MUST VISIT WHEN IN NICE! We stayed in an air bnb right on top of this place and thought we would take a chance with no booking! The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming and were happy to squeeze us in for a 9:30 dinner. Famous for its €18 3 course sittings and impeccable quality, Chez Palmyre does not disappoint. We mmmm'd and ahhh'd through our three courses and we're lucky enough to be taught some French slang! We had the artichoke terrine, pork muzzle, beef cheeks (daily special), fish and peach salad. If I could, I would go back here every day - the ultimate Nice experience for foodies!

Definitely one of my top choice out of all the restaurants that I've been so far in France. I was extremely surprised at how fast the service was first of all. Better to make reservation before hand otherwise you might not get a table before it closes. It's a very casual and homey space. The decoration in the restaurant is full of local spirit. Wooden benches where you are meant to share with other guests, white and red plaid napkins, cream white pitcher. The menu consists of appetizers, main course then dessert for under 20 euro. Appetizer was vinaigrette de poireaux et ses copeaux de foie gras. Slices of foie gras on top of arugula and what seems to be frozen, sour leek? I had alouette sans tete as main course. Headless something? To my discovery, alouette is lark and not a type of fish. The flavour was strong, tangy and that probably masked the meaty taste of lark. I had never had lark before but I know I never had pleasant time with any poultry other than chicken because of the gamy, meaty flavour. But this dish was well done due to the strong taste and the meat was very tender. I think it was tenderized and stuffed. Dessert is chocolate Creme brûlée. Needless to say, it was very delightful. There are also some history behind the restaurant, not very certain but I believe it is one of the oldest in old town Nice? Being centrally located in old town, we had a nice walk around the little shops in old town after the meal.

Easily one of the best French meals I have ever had. Looking for an intimate restaurant with amazing comfort food and affordable prices? This is where you should be. 3 course meal plus a carafe of house wine and an expresso 30€. Be sure to make reservations because this little jewel is small in size. Walking in is like walking into grandma's home. Its comfortable, warm and inviting. You will be seated either in a small booth or at a communal table with other patrons so you get to meet new people or stare at the scrumptious dishes they are feasting on. My favorite dish was the potato salad with duck. I never had potato salad without mayo and this was fantastic. The service was good...quick and to the point. I love this place!!!

The best food we have had while in France. The set menu is a lot of fun and had great variety. My husband got the osso bucco which is one of the best things I have ever eaten. It literally melts in your mouth. The chocolate crime brûlée is divine.

We lucked out and were able to get seated at this beauty. Very cozy ambiance, reasonably priced, and hands down the best stew I've had.

We where expecting a lot more, but the menu was very limited and nothing really for kids. Was a little disappointment for us.

Great meal in France!…read more This was a fantastic first dinner in Nice right off the main drag. We had reservation for 7pm and arrived a few minutes early. We waited a few minutes while they prepped our table and we were seated promptly. The vibe was cool, very French cafe feeling on the streets. The waiters were kind and attentive was you settled in. They patiently answered all our menu questions. We ordered the fois gras (because when in France), the duck and the octopus. All the food was excellent, the fois gras was perfect (although probably wouldn't order it again for ethical reasons). The octopus was absolutely perfect, very very easy to screw up, but they nailed it; every bit melting in our mouths. The duck breast was perfect, juicy and cooked to perfect. All the dishes were served with plenty of accompaniment. Great meal for a great French experience. Would highly recommend.

Maybe not fair for them, but on our previous night, the previous chicken dinner was 5 stars for her. I got the beef stew over gnocchi. Not bad, but even for a light eater, it was NOT enough food for me?!?! Got a glass of Bordeaux which was good, until I noticed the locals got twice as generous of a pour?!? The second time I noticed this while dining out... Happy for them, but to see the inconsistency affects me... Ambiance - Small local business/restaurant. Prime tourist location/area. Plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. One unisex toilet. Service - Welcoming. Made online reservations, but because we are NOT tech savvy, it booked the wrong time. So since we were in the area, we just walked by and asked them to change the time and had no problems. Price - 49 Euros, $57 USD. Expensive for what we got IMO. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success.

Also note there is no cell service or WiFi service in the restaurant. Nice ambiance in the restaurant and away from the hustle and bustle of Nice. We ordered the squid, Foie Gras and Filet Mignon. All 3 were very good though I am not a fan of the Fois Gras but it came with a nice salad and bread. The squid was seasoned well and cut thin and flash fried. The filet was sliced and cooked perfect The potatoes were great and also nice salad came with it. Service was ok. Prices Moderate.

I was sooo looking forward to dining here, but unfortunately, I was left with cheese on my face (sorry no eggs here, only cheese, cheese, and more cheese). We arrived a bit early for our reservation (15-20 minutes), but we were seated immediately, which was nice; the table was stuffed into a corner, but at least we were seated. Unfortunately, that was about where the niceness ended. The restaurant is supposed to be housed in a former cheese cave, which I thought would be exciting and romantic, instead it was just hot and cramped. This is one of those restaurants that tries to accommodate as many diners as possible, so we were basically eating right on top of another couple (who were incredibly displeased, even stating, "this service is abysmal"). We could literally hear every word spoken up to two tables away, so don't expect to have any privacy, except from the servers that is. Service was unpleasant and extremely minimal. Our server took our food and drink order, delivered our drinks, another server apologized for the delay in receiving our meal, and our original server delivered our meal...and that was it. They didn't refill our water bottle, ask if I wanted another glass of wine, stop by to see if we liked our meal -or needed else (which we did), or even bring a check. After waiting too long for our check, table full of finished plates and empty cups, we eventually just got up and headed upstairs. Apparently you're supposed to head upstairs to pay, but we'd have never known since our server was doing they're best David Copperfield impression. Now for the food. The kitchen was tiny tiny, so it's no wonder the menu consists of cheese for the starter, cheese for the entree, and cheese for dessert. Sprinkled in-between the assortment of cheeses was a steak masquerading on the menu as "Aubrac Bib", whatever that means, and the Tartiflette, think pork belly scalloped potatoes and the only thing you should order here. The Tartiflette was microwave-lunch small, but it was hot, rich, and pretty meaty for the size. I got the Camembert (takes 30 minutes) and it was pretty awful as a meal. It's not even really a dish. They literally opened up the wooden wheel of cheese, peeled back the paper, sprinkled a few things on top, then baked for 30 minutes, so it was more of just a cheese dish. It arrived-paper still covering the top, and was served with some under-seasoned fingerling potatoes and a salad. The salad was good and potatoes were okay, but the cheese was so one-note, it needed meat or veggies to dip in it. Unfortunately, I only had the few potatoes and two small bits of baguette to dunk, so my only option was to eat it like soup, which I did not-so half remained wasted and uneaten. We would have liked to have eaten dessert, but after the poor meal, and lack of even offering dessert, "How could we?". I'm giving 2 stars for the Tartiflette because it was delicious. I would not return and DO NOT RECOMMEND.
