Stopped by on a weekday afternoon to get some treats to take home after having lunch nearby. I decided on the almond cigar, an apple crumb cake , and a carrot cake cupcake. The total was $10.00 for my purchase. I really enjoyed everything... the almond cigar was nice and flaky with a good almond flavor, the cupcake was very moist with a delicious cream cheese frosting and the apple crumb that I ate the next morning for breakfast was great with the apples and a nice crumb topping dusted with powdered sugar. Came here to get some hard rolls for dinner. Wanted to get real rolls, not the ones from a supermarket. Of course while looking around, I had to get brownies and a cheesecake square. The girl didn't seem too friendly and I tried to make small talk and she seemed like she didn't want to be bothered so I got my rolls and desserts and left. I think they are a bit pricey, but it seems like all bakeries run about the same. There was a decent selection of cakes, cookies and all sorts of sweets. Small place. But I'm only giving 4 stars because of the price and the employee. Just an update on the brownies and the rolls. Brownies were good but the rolls were delicious. I know, who would think, it's just a roll but when you're from Jersey and you know what a hard roll is, that's what you expect and they didn't let me down. They offer high quality desserts, with my eyes glazing over on the red velvet cheesecake...... Anyways they have a lunch deal for $7.50 you can pick two different half sandwiches ( made the same day) that come out to a foot long. We both selected the spicy Italian and the spicy turkey. Spicy Italian ( 5 stars) dang this was good. It was clear that this was high quality deli meat with deli style cheese slices. With some red peppers to add some spice, it was destroyed fast. We had ordered 30 chocolate and 20 vanilla cupcakes with baby written on top of it. First of all the cupcakes were perfectly moist, incredibly delicious and had the right amount of cream! I was traveling with my family and wanted to buy a cake for the event that night. The only bakery opened was this. After searching it for half hour we finally parked the car in front of it. I love this place! I decided to first try out this place for my dad's 50th birthday party. I saw a gorgeous cake in the display and asked for them to make it in blue for the winter wonderland theme I had planned. This cake came out perfect and was adored by everyone. Plus, it tasted delicious! I have gone here several times afterwards to get cakes for various occasions including the checkerboard cake as well as the raspberry ganache cake. I loved the former, but the latter was a bit too sweet for my liking. I haven't tried their other assortments of sweets/pastries yet, but definitely intend to! I also always eye at their spicy Italian sandwich in their display window but have never been hungry enough to get it. Will be doing that sometime soon. Keep you posted! P.S. They were very easy to talk to when I called and had to have a 1/2 dozen chocolate covered strawberries put aside on Valentine's Day. I went in on January 19th to pick up an anniversary cake for my parents, after helping me select a cake the girls behind the counter wrapped it up with smiles and handed me the cake. In my rush to leave, I somehow dropped the cake and it landed on it's side... I was completely horrified and obviously upset with myself. The girls reacted immediately, called their manager and swapped out the cake for free without any hesitation. Me dropping the cake was not their fault, but it meant the world to me that they didn't want my butterfingers to ruin my parents' special day. La Bonbonniere is a wonderful bakery in the Piscataway area. In particular, a MUST GET from this bakery is the apple crumb cake. Usually, when I eat a apple crumb cake, the inside is simply apple filling. However, this apple crumb cake had real apples inside. The half and half cookie is also good, but it is just that - good. The red velvet cake was very soft and tasteful as well. But the one MUST GET from here is again the apple crumb cake. The prices are the same as most bakeries (a lot inflated than it actually should be) but you cannot get the same goodness from shoprite or any other super markets trying to market the same bakery item. I was told that this bakery was opened since the 1960's proving its worth of bakery goodies all the way until now. read more

I found the prices are wildly unreasonable. Especially for the area. They charge $4.00 for a loaf of Italian bread, I had to rub my eyes and look again.(I couldn't believe it.) Being in town on business, my colleague and I had lunch at a place a few doors down from La Bonbonniere. We stopped in after lunch yesterday and I ordered one. It was so delicious, we went back to the same place for lunch and then walked over to La Bonbonniere again and got THE EXACT SAME THING TODAY! Seriously yummy. Go get it! Oh, and the carrot cake cupcake is terrific as well. My only fear with buying an actual cake there is that I might be tempted to eat the entire thing by myself if it's half as good as the chocolate coconut bar. read more

Wonderful desserts! We recently held an impromptu celebration for my little sister's engagement since she and her fiancé came to visit from out of state, and needed to find a high quality cake quickly. We tried a vanilla cupcake from here and were impressed (texture and flavor of the cake and frosting were moist and delicious). We ended up buying a strawberry shortcake, and though they were unable to write on it, they were very helpful and wrote a message in frosting on a sugar cookie to add to the top of the cake. Having a congratulations message on the cake was important for us, and we appreciated how they went out of their way to help us figure out a solution. It was pricey compared to grocery bakeries like Shoprite, but definitely worth it. The cake was AMAZING! So rich yet fluffy and soft, and the whipped cream and strawberries tasted very fresh.
