    Lobster bisque
    Rob M.

Celebrated my birthday with a dear friend. This is food for grownups with a sophisticated palate. Chef owner Cindy has the culinary experience to continue the French bistro legacy begun here years ago. Her artist son Chris has enhanced the cozy intimate setting with his murals. Prix fixe menu allowed us to select different items. Started off with a Manhattan cocktail. I had the escargot appetizer and sweetbreads entree. Sarah had lobster bisque and filet mignon au poivre. Dessert ganache-coated profiterole stuffed with vanilla ice cream. What a treat. Restaurant is open Wednesday - Saturday. Reservations are required.

We returned for our second visit this trip. I got the lobster bisque, the scallop special with truffle sauce and rice, and the soufflé for dessert. Hubby got the frog legs, rack of lamb, also with rice and vegetables, and the cheesecake. The lobster bisque had what seemed like sous vide lobster, possibly claw meat, the frog legs were a sort of fricasee with a delicious sauce. Both were delicious and he ate both frog legs, then finished my soup. The soup could have been a little hotter. I noticed this last time with the corn chowder, possibly they have a different idea of serving temp than I do. The main courses were really great. The scallops were perfectly seared and not overcooked. I would not have cared had they been undercooked but they were perfect. The truffle sauce was delicicious. The rack of lamb had the delicious crust that French cooking is known for. It might be mustard and bread crumbs, but that is only my conjecture. So tasty with the crunchy outside and the soft, done to my husband's asking center. We both had the same rice and vegetables. The vegetables were fresh and nicely cooked. The rice was good, especially with the truffle cream sauce. I got the chocolate and Grand Marnier soufflé and he got the lilikoi cheesecake. Both were very excellent.

My husband and I past this place and our optometrist is right across the street. We decided to eat here and made reservations for an early Valentine's Day celebration. The ambiance was cozy and the decor made you feel like you were actually in a Paris restaurant. The food..was excellent and delicious! My husband had the lobster bisque and I had the escargot for starters. As for the entree, I had the rack of lamb and my husband had the steak. For dessert, I had the Lilikoi mousse and my husband had something like a chocolate mousse. Merci! to Chris, Zack and the rest of the staff for making our first time and my first time eating "escargot" a memorable experience.

Très bien! After months of driving by and many disappointing meals elsewhere, I came here last week with some girlfriends for a night out. We ordered multiple appetizers, entrees, and two desserts to share. Everything was wonderful! Classic no fuss French dishes perfectly executed. My favorite was the lamb chops, but both my friends fought over the veal chop. The mushroom soup which is not on the menu, is creamy and so flavorful. The owner Cindy came out and explained each dish and also offered drink paring options with both cocktails and wine. We felt very taken care of and spoiled! We loved it so much we made another reservation for later this month! I definitely recommend dining at La Bourgogne and to make reservations well in advance! They book up fast since it is the best fine dining restaurant in the area.

PSA they are open!! When you first arrive the outside isn't super inviting, you hardly notice La Bourgogne tucked away just off the highway, but honestly that's one of the things i love about it! tip: Make a reservation. Their hours are minimal, i think 5-8pm, so plan ahead. The menu is stellar, most things made from scratch. fresh sauces and pasta, which was divine and i'm VERY picky with my pasta. Order the lobster pasta it's amazing. French onion soup was stellar as well. This is a family owned restaurant with a semi fine dining vibe. The son was our waiter and the mother owner and chef also came to our table to see how things were and to see if we needed any suggestions. Great food, great service, pleasantly quiet ambiance. Will be back again! p.s. save room for the Chocolate Soufflé, you'll thank me later.

The ambiance was so French and sweet. Loved it. The food was amazing and served just right. Our drinks were perfect had a white Russia and Bordeaux wine. The service was brilliant. Christopher our server was so detailed in explaining the menu and right on on his recommendations. We went for an early Mother's Day dinner and will be back for Father's Day. Just enjoyed everything

The current chef has owned this place since 2020 and does a great job with flavorful food, a refreshed dining room interior, and excellent customer service. Imagine a fancy French restaurant where the chef/owner actually is tableside to discuss the dishes, answer any questions, and take your order! Her sons are cooking and serving too, making the whole experience feel super welcoming. The menu offers a mix of French and Italian dishes. The special on the day we arrived was spaghetti and meatballs, but not just any meatballs. These use the highest quality mixture of ground meat. Drinks are well made. Service is prompt and very cordial. Dinner was delicious. Dessert was great. This is a small place and reservations, especially with reduced capacity during COVID times, can be hard to get. Plan ahead and enjoy a special date night at a unique and wonderful restaurant.

Special appetizer of the evening, caviar blini's w/lobster and fresh baked breads w/whipped butter.

I think this is only the second time I've given 5 stars in several years of Yelp reviews. This was the best dining experience we've had in ages from start to finish. I've been anticipating dining at a French restaurant for years, they certainly aren't around every corner. We tried to make reservations here last year but didn't realize you need to book weeks in advance. It's a small dining room and they don't book all the tables at once. It's an intimate setting with very attentive service. Cindy the owner/chef and her sons love what they do and it definitely shows. You feel like a guest in their home not a patron in a restaurant. The interior is a nice surprise, so don't judge by the industrial exterior. It's tasteful, semi-formal yet cozy with the dim lighting and French bistro decor . We started out with a couple of unique tasty cocktails and the special appetizer of the evening, caviar blini's w/lobster. Must mention upon seating there is lovely fresh baked breads, whip butter and some crudités, such a nice touch. The appetizer was my first experience w/caviar and wow...for being such small bites they truly were a flavor bomb explosion! Simply delightful. For entrees we ordered the foie gras w/scallops w/cherry balsamic and hubby had the sous vide strip steak w/Cabernet sauce. Meanwhile we were thoroughly enjoying the cocktails, bread, coffee (incredible too) and being catered to by Cindy and son. Our meals come out and what a gorgeous presentation on both plates. I've been dying to try foie gras for ages, now I understand the appreciation. Along with bone marrow this is the most decadent food I've ever tasted!! I can see why you only get a small portion, rich and sinful. The toasted baguette and balsamic bring it all together for that perfect bite. My husband's steak was cooked to ultimate perfection, melt in your mouth accompanied by the French version of scalloped potatoes, green beans were also delicious and he doesn't like beans. Cindy was sweet in giving him fancy rice to try since he said he doesn't care for a lot of veggies. We were in 7th heaven with everything. Even though we're we're completely satisfied we knew we had to order the popular chocolate soufflé that comes w/grand marnier anglaise poured into the center. How could you not order?? The son comes out and offered to do the special presentation, pretty impressive!! Omg, yet another incredible experience!! I was a bit surprised it wasn't sweeter but that was fine by me as I don't care for really sweet desserts. It was enough for 2-4 people to share. If we move to Kona I'm booking a set reservation for every 6-8 weeks!!! This was such a gem in all aspects. Thank you Cindy and sons!! We won't forget this anytime soon.

Is there a bar at this restaurant?

No, they have a wonderful wine list but not sure about hard liquor at dinner. This is a very small restaurant so there is not a separate bar. They do serve cocktails so some hard liquor might be available.

How can they send me discount offer?

You need to go and enjoy a meal at the restaurant and then sign up for the mailing list when you receive the check for your dinner

We planned this evening well in advance, making reservations over a month ago and explicitly noting the milestone celebration. My husband even called ahead of time to confirm, and the staff assured us they would do something special for them. The letdown began right at arrival. The hostess was passive and asked our table, "Who is celebrating their anniversary?" Given that our party consisted of two couples under 40 and my in-laws, it felt incredibly unobservant and careless for a luxury resort host team. Later in the meal, my husband quietly asked our server if anything special was planned for the occasion, only to be told, "No, we don't do that." Beyond a casual, passing verbal acknowledgment, absolutely nothing was done. The only true highlight of the evening was the beautiful view. Our server was friendly, though a bit awkward, but the kitchen and bar execution were highly disappointing: * **The Drinks:** Highly overpriced for the size, lacking in flavor, and tasted noticeably watered down. * **The Pacing:** While thankfully, we were in no rush, it took a tremendous amount of time to receive our appetizers and salads, though the entrees did arrive quickly after. * **The Food:** Every dish was exceptionally expensive, yet the portion sizes were minuscule and entirely flavorless. The Caesar salad, in particular, had a very strange, off-putting flavor profile. * **Dessert:** We ordered the $17 cheesecake, which was absolutely tiny. For a premium dining experience on the coast at a luxury resort, you expect a balance of ambiance, culinary excellence, and attentive service. While Manta has the ambiance down, the food and hospitality were entirely lacking. We left the restaurant hungry, deeply disappointed, and feeling that our family's major milestone deserved a much higher level of care than what we received.

We got premium seating at $730 for three people. We had our own table at the front of the show, leis included ($10 if you do not purchase premium seating), and first service to the buffet. That's pretty much all of the bonus that comes with premium seating. We got our family photo taken, and it was a very beautiful photo. $25 to download the image without a watermark, $35 to get it printed. If you do choose to get the image, download it for $25 and get it printed at Walmart or CVS for $2. The staff who checked us in, seated us, and served us were all very friendly, chatty, and kind. They did a wonderful job. The dancers and band were wonderful, and I appreciate the dedication to describing what a luau resembles; an ancient Hawaiian royal feast. The pork was delicious, and being able to see it taken out of the ground was a really neat experience. Be sure to check in early (5pm for premium, 5:15 for standard) and be first in line to everything, because the line for the bar, tattoos, games and activities, and crowd around the pig build up fast. They have a wide variety of traditional Hawaiian dishes, familiar food for kids, seafood, pork, chicken, beef, sides, and desserts at the all you can eat buffet. Their drink menu is extremely limited; for $750 I would have expected access to Piña Coladas and dacharies, something blended. The teriyaki beef had good flavor but was very tough. Our session ended at 8. At 7pm, the event was called off because the rain was too heavy. This makes sense; there's a lot of danger for the dancers to be on such slippery floors, the buffet food had been soaked, no fire dancers could perform, etc. I understand they can't control the weather. We reached out and asked for a refund, and they offered for us to come back on Tuesday. That is not possible, as we fly out tonight (Monday). They say they do not offer refunds if rain causes the event to end early, and we are now in contact with management. Their choice to completely cancel the show instead of moving it inside or something of the sort was very disappointing, and our experience was not at all worth the almost $800 we spent. Review update; they gave us a 2/3 refund for the rain, which was much appreciated! Mahalo for the wonderful time. And yes, printed is $30 not $35, I had read the numbers wrong. We had a good time, but it would have been much better if a few tweaks were made. Mahalo for the friendly staff, great dancers, great band, good food, and education about Pacific Islander history! I hope to see some adjustments made for future guests to make the most of their time and money.

The Island Breeze Luau left a lot to be desired. Open Bar with Caveats: Yes, there's an open bar, but the liquor selection runs on the lower end, with brands like Skyy and Whalers rum. Buffet: The food setup is where things really fell apart. With a large group of guests all trying to get their money's worth, the buffet lines became a free-for-all. Plates were piled excessively high, and by the time some guests got through the line, several dishes were already gone. At this price, everyone deserves access to the full spread the format simply doesn't support that. The other guests aren't Ohana, they are trying to get their moneys worth so they act gross this is why I loathe buffets. No Sunset, No Outdoors: Perhaps the most disappointing aspect: our show was moved indoors. A luau without the outdoors, without the warm Hawaiian air, and most heartbreakingly without the sunset is a fundamentally different (and lesser) experience. This is an inherent risk, and it's one that can completely change what you're paying for and I would not take again. Weather is unpredictable we were told 50 minutes before check in it was moving inside. Consider the Alternatives: For a similar or slightly higher budget, you can enjoy a private oceanside dinner with premium cocktails with your real Ohana and a guaranteed view of that stunning Hawaiian sunset. The entertainment here doesn't bridge that gap. Go in with very managed expectations or explore other options first. Also if you were paying for a family of 5 this is diabolical pricing for this event. I paid for myself and I can afford to be out 200 bucks for what was essentially Hawaiian Golden Corral with the most annoying selfish group of tourists.

Most of the nearby restaurants close to our hotel were either closing soon or offered heavier meals, so I was happy to come across Aloha Wine Bar online. Despite the name, it has an interesting food menu in addition to their drinks. We were able to walk over from the hotel and were glad to see a few other customers there without it feeling overly busy, so we were able to sit right away. We ordered a few of drinks, some sushi dishes to share that really hit the spot, and a flatbread pizza to round everything out. The bartender (whose name I unfortunately forgot) was super friendly, and it was clear he enjoyed chatting and engaging with the customers. That always adds to the experience :) If I "had to" complain about anything, it would be that the pizza took quite a while to come out compared to the drinks and other food. That being said, it wasn't a dealbreaker and we didn't mind much since we were not in a rush. We were on vacation, after all. Tbh I'm not sure when we will make it back to Big Island or to this particular area, but if/when we do, I would absolutely consider coming back to try more of their food and drinks. We had a really lovely time here.

We were only $20 short of reaching the $300 spending requirement for the free gifts, which should speak to how frequently we visited and how much money we spent at this store. Despite being repeat customers, every visit was met with the same poor customer service. All of the cashiers who helped us were rude, curt, and could not even acknowledge the smallest greetings. The customer service was so unpleasant that it was not worth the experience. The food is not amazing, the prices are not great, and the only thing this place has is convenience--nothing more to offer. In one instance, I got a burger and a black milk tea with boba. I specifically told the cashier that I wanted boba, but she did not ring it up. When I inquired about the missing boba, a young employee addressed the matter with the cashier. They talked, and I said that if it cost more, I could pay for it. She rang up the boba with zero acknowledgment of her mistake. Nothing came out of her mouth. Complete silence. In another instance, I asked a cashier what the gifts were if we reached $300 in purchases. She did not say a word. She simply reached for a card with images of the gifts and placed it on the opposite side of where I was standing. She said nothing. I asked if those were the gifts, and she said yes. She then pulled out her phone while I looked at the card, and I simply said, "Okay, thank you." These are just a few examples of the many disturbing encounters we had with all of the cashiers. While on vacation in a tourist area, this is not the type of conduct or customer service one expects to experience. It was disturbing, and we dreaded going there despite the convenience.
