First timer with a background in Houston, TX Tex-Mex. Carnita plate for me was delish on the carnita. Perfect mix of meat/fat and it appears finished on a flat top griddle for crispy edges. It was melt in your mouth. The rice is pure, no veggies added, and had a unique enjoyable seasoning. The refried beans are a bit "wet" and lacked a wow flavor. Flour tortillas were griddled perfectly to bring out the flavor and a little crunch. Salsas are good for Wilmington, but not kick ass. I'll return for the authentic vibe of my meal. read more

My sister is Mexican so I know good authentic Mexican food, and this place is definitely it. Homemade tortillas and wonderfully dressed tacos. Plenty of cilantro and onions, a Serrano pepper with the tacos, perfectly grilled meat. As me and my family were leaving I saw aguas frescas. We tasted and left will all three flavors: Horachata, piña, and sandía. So fresh. No powdery flavor or syrupy taste. TRULY HOMEMADE! My mind is BLOWN that this place doesn't have more reviews. If I could leave no stars I would. We were standing by the door for like 3 minutes trying to make eye contact with the waitress so she could sit us and there was NO people (no host, no welcome, nothing) she didn't take our drinks neither our food and she was taking really long in the back. She had us waiting til she was finished talking with some other customers that got there after us (Not drink yet!!) when she gave us our drink we asked her for the check and left! My favorite Mexican food place my favorite tacos are the tripa and Asada the service has gotten better

La Brasa has some LEGIT street tacos. And I don't understand how this spot doesn't have more reviews for being so inexpensive and authentic! Ordered 3 tacos ($2/ea). Tried the Chorizo, Al Pastor, and Barbacoa. Service was friendly and quick even though it was super busy. I agree with the other review that points out that English may not be the first language of the employees but they didn't seem to have any issues understanding us. I'm not the biggest fan of corn tortillas, but theirs were really good, and tasted fresh (curious if they are made in house!). Definitely not like the dry crumbly corn tortillas you can buy at the grocery store, and for me that's one thing that sets a good taqueria apart from a great taqueria. The complimentary chips & salsas were delicious too. The orange sauce was super spicy and I loved the green salsa too which was slightly less spicybut definitely still had a kick. Absolutely, positively and conclusively (in my mind, anyway) THE BEST STREET TACOS in Wilmington. I know I have some friends who will think I'm crazy for saying this but I have now eaten here 3 times in the past week and cannot get enough of these tacos. FOOD: Taco Trio with frijoles (Asada, Pastor & Chorizo). I'll begin with stating a fact that these 3 tacos are only $2, each. That's it! That is it! For $2 each, this is a steal and I almost felt guilty paying $8 for this lunch. The tacos are packed, and I do mean PACKED, full of flavor and are presented as if you just walked into a cantina in Acapulco, Mexico. These have no shredded cheese, sour cream and are not served in an Americanized hard shell. These are the real deal with cilantro, onion and beautiful spices. The white corn tortilla shells are incredible with that ever-so-slight crisp on the exterior but still soft enough to enjoy through and through. My personal favorite? The chorizo with freshly-squeezed lime juice and Valentina hot sauce. So damn good. The frijoles were not what I expected but then again, I also didn't even think to be descriptive when I ordered. Rather than my favorite, frijoles negros, out came the pinto bean version and that's on me. Still good though with ample cheese, melted as a light blanket over the top. Their chips and salsas are also winners...maybe not the best of the best but still very good. SCORE: 4.8 STARS!! SERVICE: Here is where things can be tricky, based on your own personal experience and perception. Each time I have visited La Brasa, I have witnessed the same 3, young staff members working and overall, they do a fantastic job. They are very friendly and do follow up well with you at your table but there is a slight language barrier, which seems to make them feel somewhat nervous or uncomfortable at times. My advice to you as a future patron? If your primary language is English, speak slowly and with clarity. It will help your staff member be more comfortable around you, too. If you speak fast or use some American slang, things will get lost in translation. If you speak Spanish, please do so. La Brasa offers a true, authentic experience as you would receive near the western coast of Mexico. It can and does get loud in the bar area once work crews clock out for the day, but you can most certainly tell that they are enjoying themselves and feel right at home. If you want to get away from the noise in the bar area, La Brasa is divided in half with the second half being a segregated dining area with many booths and tables, more suitable for families with children. Each table has a variety of authentic hot sauces available. along with QR Codes to place your order and pay. Nice little feature there. Areas of opportunity: No public wi-fi accessibly. When I unpacked my laptop, got all set up...comfy and ready to write, I asked for the wi-fi password since there were 2 open networks available for La Brasa. I was then told that the wifi was not available for the customers. There is no signage or verbiage stating "available wifi", from what I observed, but it seemed odd to have 2 networks available but only for La Brasa business use. Plus, I think this may have been the first time any of them had been asked about wifi. No problem. Pick your battles, right?! Once finished, you can simply walk up to the station near the back wall to pay or you may pay from your table using the QC code or directly with your server. On a last note, Chef and owner, Noe Alvarez is one cool-ass dude! Met him last time around and this family man has a great personality. Do not hesitate to ask for Noe after your meal to compliment what he and his staff just made you. I think you'll want to do this anyway. It's not service on a pinnacle level by any means but if I were a traveler in Mexico and walked into a place like La Brasa...this is 5-Star stuff. All about perspective! My score? 4.1 STARS!! OVERALL SCORE: Best tacos in town; authentic flavors and service; cantina vibe; oh... and a full bar, plenty stocked with your favorite tequila, whiskey or cerveza. 4.6 STARS!!! read more

First time in. This building used to be a neighborhood favorite of mine, San Juan Cafe, so it took me a little while to open up to something new. As you walk in , it still has a very similar feel, so that was comforting. I kept it simple today and went with 3 pastor tacos and some refried beans. It was great. Served just how I love tacos, on corn tortillas with onion and cilantro. I could have gotten 3 more, but refrained. Service was a little lacking, considering I went after the lunch rush, and it wasnt too busy, so that is the only reason I am leaving it with a 4 star. I will be back soon. read more

It's a good sign when you go to a Latin restaurant and a majority of the patrons are Latinx. Hands down the best authentic tacos in town. No lettuce, tomatoes, cheese or crunchy shell. Choice of meats, copped onion and cilantro. And only $2 each? Wife had fajitas which were also outstanding. Go get you some of this deliciousness. read more

I went to eat there yesterday walked in sat at the bar. I sat there for 7 minutes no bartender and waitress acknowledged me or said anything. I guess they don't like black people at the restaurant. A white guy walked in a little while later when I was there they acknowledged him and said something to him. I will not be going back!!! read more
