    Carne asada tacos
    andrea s.

This place was cute and had yummy food! I happened upon this place while walking through the cargo district in search of food. I love Mexican food and am pretty darn picky about it- this place did a good job! Service was friendly. I placed my order at the counter and found a table to sit at. The bartender at the bar was friendly and showed me where I could get water. I ordered the carne asada tacos and chips and everything. All of the sauces were delicious and fun! The tacos were good, simple with meat, cilantro and onions, and two tortillas. I would definitely return to try more tacos. The vibe was chill but cool.

Taco Tuesday!! $2 tacos end at 7pm (which I missed by 2 minutes, sadly). But still ordered the carnitas tacos and side of brussels. Love the brussels! Staff was super friendly! Would go back.

Nice, eclectic spot and solid concept of a restaurant + bar (Alcove) at the Cargo District. The layout and concept was nice and unique but the food just fell flat for me. The lady at the front who took our order was very nice and patient for one, and just had a good vibe from that encounter alone. You can eat inside or out in the various seating arrangements they have. We opted inside in what was close to a school (university) cafeteria-ish small dining area in the back. It was oddly loud, music-wise, and the wait for food was very extensive..but they at least let us know they were backed up. Your order is called up by a person on megaphone, then have to go get your food, utensils, condiments. I really hate that the food wasn't up to par though because everything sounded good on the menu, description-wise. The smashburger was the most decent thing, but I could definitely tell it was a very low grade cheese they used (overpowered). The chips and guac was a a lot of chips to small guac amount and was more on the brown side than green...could have used more lime. The chicken and steamed but was the least favorite overall - chicken was dry and pretty bland. Had high hopes because again the menu did sound good, but too pricey for the quality we got. Will probably opt to other options in the Cargo District

(3.5 stars) This eclectic offering from the True Blue group offers a killer menu but its logistics leave something to be desired. First, the good: Beat Street has an impressive array of handhelds from around the world. A half-dozen varieties of tacos share menu space with burgers, kabobs, tortas, and ssam. Choosing a side will be a hair-tearing endeavor as ramen, bacon cheddar mac, and truffle fries (with lemon and parmesan!) make for an extremely difficult decision. Beat Street is co-located with Alcove Beer Garden, and there is plenty of seating inside and out. That capaciousness is a double-edged sword, however, as you may need to listen from a distance and over music for your number to be called out. You'll also be in for a wait (30+ minutes in our case): perhaps due to understaffing, the kitchen here is slow. That said, the food here was as good as it sounded. We went with barbacoa tacos and pork belly steamed buns with the aforementioned truffle fries. The fries were addictive, and both handhelds were well-sauced (birria/avocado crema and hoisin/ginger scallion, respectively) and flavorful. The pork was a touch dry but not unpleasantly so, and it was satisfyingly crispy. Prices ($12 and $14) were reasonable. Beat Street's tantalizing menu will make you hungry, and your stomach will be happy by the end, but the in-between may try your patience.

Cute taco spot in the cargo district of Wilmington! We came here for the $2 tacos on Tuesday's between 4pm-7pm. I wasn't expecting them to have so much filling for that price! They were really loaded up with meat and other toppings! All of the tacos were amazing and flavorful! My favorite was the barbacoa taco. I also loved the Al pastor, although it was ground pork, which I wasn't crazy about but it was still good. The carnitas one was also great. And the carne asada as well. The alcove beer garden that shares the same seating area as beat street had $5 margaritas for Tuesdays as well! They were really good!

Came here again for their $5 Smashburger special on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 PM. It doesn't come with fries, and it is dine-in only. Waited in alcove beer garden area until they called out my number from the window. The burger was delicious, so filling, tons of cheese and sauce. The bun was thick and big enough so it didn't get soggy-almost couldn't fit in my mouth. One of the best burgers. Only downside was the cold bun. The bun was obviously grilled, so it probably was made before the meat and just left out sitting until the meat was ready. Side of russet fries ($5 regular price) was also delicious, thin cut crispy fries.

This is where Mess Hall used to be. They have burgers along with several other options. We ordered tacos and chips with roasted salsa. It was all delicious. The issue was how long it took to get the orders. It was at least 20 minutes. The cool thing is they collaborate with Alcove for weekly specials, such as, $2 taco Tuesday with $5 margaritas, and $5 smashburger with a beer special.

    Lots of n/a options!

Beat Street is a perfect replacement for what used to be mess hall. It's situated right inside alcove beer garden so it's a great place to grab a snack or meal while having a few drinks. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and moved the line quickly for it only being their second day open!! The decor inside is perfect & you can tell they were meaningful to keep the theme of the eatery all throughout its elements. There's something for everyone on this menu! gf, vegan, vegetarian- there's so many tasty things that you might not find other places- they've brought something new to the neighborhood. My husband and I tried their casera salsa & blue crab, bacon, Jalepeno guacamole. Both were amazing, large portions, excellent flavor and both appropriately priced for the amount you get!! True blue has done it again by opening another must eat at restaurant in the Wilmington area!!

Such a cool space in the middle of town. I had no clue we had this here in Wilmington and it's definitely somewhere I will come back. In my opinion it is somewhere you would go to get a casual drink during the weeknight or even early afternoon weekend. It's very laidback and the food wasn't bad. The only drawback was that the bun to the burger was so huge it took away from the flavors and everything else on it. I had to take one of the buns off it just to actually eat it because I felt like I was eating all bread, but the fries were delicious. You can bring your dogs, kids, and there's a pretty good amount of seating. You can always walk up the street to another local bar if you want too. Will definitely go back.

Our new favorite spot! Especially on Wednesdays! (Iykyk) Great atmosphere/ service/ all around go to. The kind of place you take your friends when they come visit cause it's your fave and how can you not!

Carne asada tacos - very good but had a bone or tendon in one piece of meat
    Cassandra B.

You order at the counter. Very casual spot in the cargo district. The woman at the counter was pleasant. You get a receipt with a number and they call your number at a window to grab your food. Service was good for the type of setup they had but it did take about 20 minutes for our food. The food was kinda pricy and while the flavor was great, I had a really gross piece of meat in my taco. Luckily that was my last taco. I bit down and it was hard and hurt my tooth. It was a bone or hard tendon. If hat didn't happen, I'd be writing a much different review. My husband had no issues and enjoyed his food. He had the corn as well. Other than the gross piece of meat, the only other downfall is they didn't have any tap or bottled water. We got a glass from the bar as instructed.

Smash burgers, Carne asada tacos, Chips with Queso + Guac, Brussel sprouts, and drinks from Alcove.
    Rachel S.

I have never ordered anything off the menu I did not like. Amazing food and great variety. My friends and I share sides when we go because the portions are large. Highly recommend the smash burger, chips & queso, and brussels sprouts.

They serve the kind of traditional Mexican breakfast I grew up loving, along with so many other delicious options. The staff is always warm and welcoming, serving every guest with the biggest smiles. You'll also often see the owner walking around as well, checking on tables and making sure everything is going smoothly, which adds such a personal touch. The restaurant itself is clean, beautifully decorated with cultural charm, and filled with the incredible aroma of fresh spices cooking in the kitchen. I always begin with their Café de Olla--a slow-simmered coffee made with raw brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange peel, and coffee. It's served hot, full of flavor, and not overly sweet. Honestly, it's the only coffee I'll happily drink without creamer or added sugar. This visit, I ordered the Tamal Montado: two tamales over a bed of creamy black bean sauce, covered with red salsa, then topped with a sunny side egg, avocado, Mexican sour cream, queso fresco, and cilantro. Every bite was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. I finished the meal with a pan dulce, which paired perfectly with the whole experience. I skipped tortillas this time, but they also have a tortilla station where they're made fresh by hand and cooked to order--always a sign you're in the right place!! They're open daily from 7 AM to 3 PM, and if you find yourself in Wilmington, this spot should absolutely be on your list
