Food was just too salty during our visit. It's also way too PRICEY for what they serve.... I rather go to the flea market on ny Street and eat cheaper for the same quality food. Do I recommend it? Honestly no simply cause it expensive for the food they sell, but if you want to experience and over pay with tip go ahead. Among the more authentic Mexican restaurants around. It amazingly enough is in Oswego. La Cabana D'Oswego is by default the best Mexican place in town. Food is good but it seems pretty expensive. There's not a whole lot vegetarian friendly either except for the chips and guacamole. For sure what they do have is pretty delicious food. It also has drinks such as margaritas. These are good and decent priced. Came in awhile ago. The place wasn't busy even for a weekend. Both of us got the Classic Margarita. It's $7 for a pretty big one. This has a saltier taste because it's authentic and not from a mix like at typical Mexican American restaurants. It's always best to start off with an appetizer. We got the Guacamole. It's $8.95 and it's not a whole lot so it's pretty expensive. The stuff here is pretty authentic, as in it's chunky and spicy. It had some crunchy tortilla chips. This would have been even better if it had more. Even though it's expensive it's authentic and good. It has better margaritas than ones from mixes and the guacamole is also better even though they don't give you a lot. There's not a whole lot for vegetarians. read more

This is basically expensive Pepe's. But the food at Pepe's is slightly better. The food is about the same as I can make at home. Nothing too special. The steak was almost nonexistent and was bland. Flavorless kinda encompassed everything. The free chips and salsa were good but the chips are served cold. Not my favorite. The service was great, friendly and attentive! The ambiance... i feel kinda bad for saying this, since they recently "updated" and someone certainly put in some time and effort into the branded future, but somehow they managed to update backwards. Now it looks like a 1980's Texas cabana. Its nice, and well done. But super dated and old looking. Definitely not the modern look. I suppose if it was full of people and a walking band was playing it could work but overall just dark. Its not bad, but given the 100 other spots in the area, you have better options. read more

They have a small outdoor eating area and we always try to grab one of those tables even though it is located in a strip center. The service is absolutely great, very attentive and friendly. The chips and salsa are so good you can't stop eating them. I ordered the burrito grande and it was amazing. When we first moved to Oswego five years ago we tried La Cabana. We really weren't impressed so continued to drive back to Plainfield for Mexican food. Last year we tried again and were pleasantly surprised. Our choices were flavorful and the portions definitely worth the price which is reasonable. We tried again a few days ago, a pickup for home, and the food was even better. I think La Cabana has moved to the "go to" choice. A visit will show a comfortable, clean and colorful place to do eat-in. A plus is that it is located close to home. read more

La Cabaña D'Oswego is an authentic Mexican restaurant, NOT an assembly line, kitschy "Mexican place". My experience with the latter type made me veto my husband's first five or six suggestions to eat there. I am SO GLAD that I said yes. The plates are generously sized, but not ridiculously big, so you can enjoy the food and take some home if you like. The kids love the restaurant as well, so their is no objection when we go. Closing times are earlier due to Covid, so make sure to arrive by 6:00pm during the week to finish before they close at 7:00. read more

I have been going to La Cabana for years however they recently changed ownership. The food was lukewarm when it came to our table, it used to be hot. They changed us $2 to refill our chips and salsa without telling us before doing it. I have never been charged for refilling chips and salsa at any Mexican restaurant. The new owners have raised prices and the quality has gone down. The 3 stars is generous. I will not be returning which saddens me after all these years. read more

Rude Rude and more Rude. That's how I'd explain my last and only visits. I only come back for the amazing chips and salsa. Now I've ordered take out from this location for many years, no problems. This time I decided to dine in. Big Mistake!!!! So let me give you a play by play of my visit. We walk in the door and the man who must own this place, no joke, doesn't even welcome us because he is on his cell phone jabbing in spanish. He takes two menus slams them on the table and points to us then back to the table. Then we wait 10 minuets for the waitress, who we think was the wife, to approach us and ask if we were ready to order. We did, and the food came surprisingly quick. The entire time we were being stared at by the man on the cell phone who seemed to be running the place while chatting it up on his cell. It was the oddest thing. We were uncomfortable and will never come back even though the food was decent. Instead we will be going to the original La Cabana in Aurora on river street. Similar food with outstanding friendly and welcoming service. Beware of the Husband/Wife Duo that will be pissed if you come to their restaurant. read more

I ordered takeout from this place. It was for my anniversary. I ordered 2 enchilada dinners, 2 sides of rice, and 2 sides of refried beans. I got my order and went home. When I got home I found they only gave me 1 enchilada dinner. I called them. Immediately the woman said one dinner "was what was understood." I told her that I specifically said 2 (and they got 2 of everything else). Nothing on her side. Pause...nothing on her end. So, I told her I was coming back for the other meal that she left off. When I got there I had to wait for it all the while she kept this big fat grin on her face like something was funny. Not one time did anyone say sorry. I did contact them on facebook to let them know this would mean I would not come. I had sent a DM which they had read and NEVER responded to. I guess losing a customer is better than saying sorry. Best shredded chicken ever. Seasoned perfect. I had the old standard, the chicken chimi. Best one I've ever had. Best quac in a while, and the salsa was delish. Chips were just ok. The service was adequate but like another reviewer, I noticed that the owner didn't say much. Smart in this economy? Nope. Our server was ok, he had a few tables and didn't refill our drinks unless asked...which is annoying but I've had way worse. He was nice when he visited. Lol We'll go back for the food. We arrived about 1:45pm for a late lunch and there was no one on the place. That scared us, but when we were greeted immediately and seated all of our concerns quickly resided. The restaurant is clean and decorated tastefully. Nothing really tacky. The older gentleman that waited on us did a great job. Lunch was great, we had the no. 7 Enchilada DeLores (chicken, beef and cheese). The platter was reasonable and good. My husband had the 3 steak tacos platter. Again delicious. We love stopping in here for a last minute dinner option. We especially love their Bistec Ala Mexican stew like dish. It's a heaping portion of tender meat with onions and green peppers in a nice comforting but not spicy tomato sauce especially wonderful when you're not in the mood to cook and it's a cold and dreary day. The kids love their chicken quesadillas. I love beef and tongue tacos with cilantro and onion. I don't think they serve tongue here and their beef is a tad tough. We come out this way to see my boyfriends parents and they like coming here for the nachos which were not that bad. However I'm not a fan at all, we waited for 20 mins to order then almost an hour to get our bill, that guy was just non existent the whole time which was super frustrating. Chips were stale and everything just tasted under seasoned as well. I for sure won't come back to this place, not worth it for me. The two stars were for the decent nachos and that's it. This restaurant is a little hard to find, but it's few doors down from Ace Hardware in the same strip of businesses. It's near where I live, so I hoped it would be good. Turns out, it's worth a visit if you like good Mexican food even if you have to travel a few miles. Fresh chips and salsa are put on the table after seating. The menu is not overstuffed, but it had a little more variety than we expected. No one in my family opted for one of the larger and complex dinners on a featured part of the menu. Instead we ordered from a page with more standard Mexican dinners. Our three orders were an enchilada dinner with refried beans and rice, a chicken breast smothered in a poblano pepper cream sauce with refried beans and rice, and a plain quesadilla for our youngest family member. Our two dinners were easily above average in quality and flavors for a small Mexican Restaurant, and the quesadilla got a thumbs up from our youngest gradeschooler. The sauces of the two dinners had unique and wonderful flavors. The poblano sauce on the chicken breast was smooth and had a rich, creamy flavor. Not over-salted and not spicy hot. The chicken was tender. This chicken breast-with-sauce dinner was split with our other gradeschooler, who surprisingly enjoyed whatever got on the sharing plate. The Enchilada dinner I chose also happened to have a green poblano sauce, but a different one than was on the chicken breast. This sauce had more spice and a somewhat different texture and set of flavors. Very nice if you like just a little spice. I've never had these sauces before. Our bland-loving child enjoyed the plain cheese quesadilla. There were other options for quesadillas. It would be nice if quesadillas made it onto the children's menu, which was brief. Some of the other dinners that were on the menu had more typical sauces. As I recall, two or three have a mole (brown) sauce. I've had good and bad mole sauces at other restaurants, and this menu described ingredients that made these mole sauces sound very interesting and I nearly ordered one. Someone in the kitchen knows what they're doing, and they're not sleepwalking through the cooking. The atmosphere is nice and clean. Festive and interesting decorations hang from the walls and ceiling. The tables are on the low end, but I think I only noticed that because I was starting to think I'd write a review of the place and started looking around like a snobby critic for a minute. We had a nice time. The dinners are not expensive and are not off-the-charts odd or ground-breaking. With this one good experience, I'd say this place puts some nice little twists into the entrees that make the food more interesting and good. The rice that came with the dinners had more flavor than the rice that is served at most Mexican restaurants. I liked it, and so did everyone else at the table. I've never been a big fan of refried beans. I gave them a quick taste and they seemed very ordinary to me. I will fault them for tasting like refried beans. Drinks: We ordered one margarita, one beer, and two bottles of Jarritos pop (one pineapple, one punch--and there are other flavors). As I recall, the beer selection consists of Bud, Bud Light, and 5 or so Mexican beers. The drinks were good. The atmosphere was okay to good and the food was easily better than expected. Horrible customer service and I will never go back again!!!!! I ordered from La Cabana D'Oswego last week. I got home and noticed they gave me the wrong entree. I spoke to Reina, who said if I wanted to come back and they would give me the right entree. I told her no since I had already gotten home. Reina said she would give me a credit for the food. Since I was getting a credit, I decided to order food from them today. When I arrived, the female employee told me my total was almost $30. I advised her I had a credit for a meal since they gave me the wrong entree last week. The employee said she was present during the conversation I had with Reina and Reina told me I would be getting a discount. THAT WAS A LIE!!!! I told her what was the discount and she said 10%. I said Reina told me I was getting a credit not 10% off my food. I told her do you think I would order from this restaurant the following week for 10% off my order. I told her that this was bad customer service and I would never order from here again. I paid for my food and left. They messed up my order and thought giving me $1.50 off my next order was enough for giving me the wrong order. I paid more money to drive to pick up my food than the $1.50 discount they were going to give me. As a result of how they handled this situation, my friends and family will never order from La Cabana D'Oswego again!!!! read more

Hands down the best salsa I have ever had however the food is hit or miss (However my husband loves this place). The food is typically bland and I have a hard time eating overly greasy food which my take out usually turns out to be.
