My family found this gem. It's a small little shop with reasonably priced, delicious food. There is a pretty expansive menu and plenty of desserts. The place is in a pretty busy area, but there is a lot in the back. Bring change for the meters. There is parking in the front, but that is hard to comeby. There are tables inside, but we are more of a take out people lately. The staff was friendly, place seemed clean and the food is good. If you like Columbian, give this place a shot. read more

Popped in the other day for a quick cafe de leche but after smelling the aroma of incredible Colombian food, I ended up ordering a bandeja paisa. They have massive portions and great prices, so you really get a great bang for your buck here. I ordered the small, as I came on foot and didn't want to carry leftovers with me. Well, like I said, the portions are huge so I ended up taking half to get anyhow! The flavors, the service, the quaint ambiance... I seriously love La Calidad. The staff are super welcoming and even though my spanish is rather juvenile, they're always helping me practice. 5-stars in my book, in every way possible. What it is is ... a storefront deli/bakery that makes delicious egg sandwiches and pastries and I think some other things and the prices are fantastic and the food is delicious! Best Columbian breakfast I've had since I lived in Jackson Heights! Finally found my spot in Long Island. The Juevos pericos and arroz con frijoles were delicious. My dish came with sweet plantain which was perfectly sweet. The arepa con queso was the best I ever had. I ordered some puddin de pan and flan to go but have not sampled them yet. The place is nice and the service is attentive. We bought pastries and also had dinner once. The food was good except a little salty for our taste. But the food was well made. We decided to start our day by taking a walk at Baldwin Harbor Park, we usually frequent a bagel place near us for a quick breakfast, but we decided to go see what other places there were to get breakfast in Baldwin. I saw on Yelp that this place has gotten many great reviews. I was also excited that it was a little Columbian bakery and restaurant to give us something else to eat than our usual. When we were driving down the street to get to this location, the whole street smelled amazing. We will have to come back to try the other restaurants nearby. This place was very clean with signage reminding customers to wear a mask, and the interior was decorated nicely with Christmas decorations and a tree. They have limited indoor dining and takeout available. We saw that they had really good looking pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and Columbian breakfast platters. I saw that they had pineapple and guava turnovers in addition to the typical apple turnover you see at bakeries. We also saw the huge mound of hot chicken empanadas in a case to our right on top of the display case with the baked goods. So without hesitation we ordered 2 chicken empanadas, 2 guava empanadas, a pineapple turnover and a large coffee. Everything came to about $11. The chicken empanadas were really crispy and flavorful with lots of filling. The guava empanadas were very refreshing and sweet, and the coffee was good. We didn't try the pineapple turnover yet, but I'm sure it's good. After we returned home I found a small thing of sauce that I assume was meant for the chicken empanada, it tasted spicy, sweet and sour and probably would have made the chicken empanadas taste even better! We will have to return again to try ore of their food. I really want to try the arepas and pupusas. read more

A friend of mine has been raving about this Colombian bakery for weeks so I finally caved in and said let's go for brunch. Man I wish I came here sooner. It's a fairly small shop but has a wide range of baked goods. After we sat and I looked at the menu, I realized wow this place is basically a Colombian diner. After contemplating between breakfast or lunch.. I went with the bandeja paisa (typical dish). This famous Colombian dish comes with rice, baked beans, eggs, sweet plantains, arepa, avocado, steak and chicharron (crispy pork). The rice and beans were delicious. The steak was well seasoned and not dry. Plantains were cooked just right. And of course the best part was the chicharron... it was crispy with a lot of flavor and not rock hard either like some places. All this costs about $15! I was super happy with the meal AND the kind price that came king with it. I will definitely be back and next time I must try their empanadas as well as their baked goods! Yum!! read more

In addition to their fresh baked goods they have a good restaurant menu. I did like the "pan de bono" (cheesy bread) but I had to ask them to warm it up. I asked for huevos pericos but I got fried egg well done. The arepa was thin and hard. I wasn't able to cut it with a knife. My husband had sancocho. He said it was just broth, onion and a potatoe - no corn on the cob vegetables or anything else. The side plate that comes with the soup had rice that tasted like "calentado" (a day old rice). It was not hot and fresh. I saw him struggling to cut the chicken on the side plate too. Real pandebono and almojábana. I take the LIRR just to get the pandebono. If you're wondering what it tastes like, it's like pao de queijo (that Brazilian cheesy bread (if you've been to a Brazilian restaurant)), but more delicious. Very soft, fluffy, and made well. Im hispanic from puerto rico and have not tried any colombian pastries but this little hole in the wall kept creeping in my head and in my view every now and then. I pass this location on my way to work and it looks run down and in need of a face lift but its constantly busy and I knew i had to walk in. When i finally walked in, it felt like I stepped into colombia. Theres music playing in the background, the colombian flag is in view, and there's definitely an authentic, warm, homey feel to this place. The service is quick and they are super sweet. I ordered the pandebono and the empanadas because thats what the other yelp reviewers recommended. The pandebono looks like a doughnut but it has cheese inside--yes you read that correctly-CHEESE. It was really good. It almost taste like a grilled cheese but definitely better because its sweeter and softer but the cheese is not hot. I never had anything like that before. The empanadas were very very good. Its definitely deep fried with meat and potatoes inside. It's like 2 bucks which is an amazing price. I also bought the flan and shared it with my coworkers and they all agreed that it was one of the best flans they every had. Now Flan I have tried before and we make this back home, but it was amazingly good, soft, creamy with the sauce. I love how they add all the extra sauce which makes it that much better! They have food hidden somewhere in the back because i did not see a menu or the food, but I did see people eating rice, beans and meat. Next time I will try their breakfast or lunch.
