After spending hours searching for hotels in Rome we finally settled on La Camelia, near to the Termini Station and I'm glad we did! From outside the hotel looks relatively unassuming but don't be fooled. Inside we were met with a genuine and friendly welcome, the man on reception took the time to offer us a map (in english) and to mark out all the key attractions including their walking times from the hotel. The hotel lobby also offer a free to computer linked to the internet and a tea / coffee vending machine.
Our room, like the rest of the hotel, was exceptionally clean and whilst not hugh was more than big enough to provide a comfortable base from which to enjoy our stay. The room was well equipped with a fridge, safe, air con, hairdryer, complimentary toiletries, free WiFi and amply storage space. The only issue we had was that the air con was not particularly effective, although we were in Rome during a 38 degree heat wave so it may have been struggling a little!
Breakfast is served between 7am and 10am although late comers did find choices depleted. There is no cooked option but plenty to choose from such as pastries, bread, cold meats, cereal, toast etc.
As previously mentioned the hotel is located in the Termini area of Rome, it is around a 5 minute walk to the main station and links for all key bus, train, tram and metro routes. We had heard that the Termini area directly around the station is a little rough, particularly at night but the hotel is far enough away not to have to worry about this. I should add that actually there are many restaurants in the area around the station so we were regularly there at night and never felt unsafe at any time. We also walked from the hotel to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps which were each only 15 minutes away on foot. The Colosseum is around a 40 minute walk so we opted to take the metro.
If you are looking for a very reasonably priced, clean, modern and well situated hotel for a stay in Rome i would definitely have a look at La Camelia! read more
