Sizes of the tacos were good, prices were okay too, my order turned out to be 14 dollars though not sure how. I have 3 stars because I didn't really taste a difference between the carne enchilada and chorizo, maybe I just won't get the carne next time. Tinga tostada was bomb though. read more

I visit La Canasta every time I'm in Staten Island visiting my cousin. She lives roughly close to this comforting mexican restaurant/bakery and every time I go to La Canasta, I always get an order of their tacos. They keep it real simple here making their food authentically Mexican. This is evident in their clientèle which are mostly locals of the area eating an amazing meal away from their home country. The restaurant is no frills, which in return why I think they decided to name it a deli/bakery rather than a restaurant. When you walk in you wouldn't expect a restaurant because they specifically named the store a bakery/deli but after you see all the people eating mexican styled dishes, you come to realized La Canasta is far more than just a deli. It's a quick service restaurant! I exceptionally love their beef tacos. My cousin ordered the beef tongue (lingua tacos). The tacos always come served with white onions, cilantro and also a lime wedge for some extra kick. They always serve the tacos in 3's with either cucumbers or radishes on the side with a green tomatillo sauce or if you're super into spicy foods, a red 'Chile de Arbol' salsa sauce. As always I wash it down with a large Horchata because if you're gonna go to a mexican joint, you never leave without their house made horchata. What this place serves me and and my girlfriend was not even food. The caranitas they sold me tasted like the floor that the pig was killed on. I don't know if I was sold this because I'm not Mexican, but no matter what it was not even food. It was unshaved pig skin, joint matter and other unidentifiables. I usually like this place. I eat here for lunch often (or I did) The food is really good. I was surprised though today when the bill did not match the menu. The lady explained to me that I had picked a more expensive type of meat. The menu simply says Choice of Meat. When I pointed out that the menu should reflect this she just shrugged her shoulders. This is not an expensive place so its not a big deal, but be aware of this when ordering here and they're not about to cater to you. read more

We just went there, the food is good, all the soups are delicious. You get a lot for a good amount. Only thing I didn't like was the tortillas, but otherwise good. I loved their seafood soup, tacos and quesadillas. They have kid friendly food there too, just make sure to ask the waitress. read more

Wow! I've only ordered pastor tacos for delivery, but they have been consistently amazing. These tacos are legit. Three of them fills me up perfectly, and the green and red salsas they come with are perfect for making it as spicy as you want. read more

So I never ever give reviews but I must say I will never ever go back to this place ever again because they "ABSOLUTELY SUCKED " from the moment I walked in with my husband and two kids(12yrs & 13 yrs old) .... it "ALL WENT DOWNHILL" from moment I walked through the door... I greeted the 1st employee that saw me in spanish and she just ignored me .... she had an unfriendly demeanor ... but I wanted to give this place a chance ... None of the waitresses or cashier smiled , nor greeted my family or I.... My husband had to go up to the cashier to order and she was very unfriendly as well with him , so I know it wasnt a woman on woman hatng thing... THEN the unfriendly waitress whose parents didnt teach her manners brought out food and didnt know what food or what table she was bringing it to... when I asked what one of the plaatters(sandwich) was because I noticed one dish was not ours and she replied "I dunno , I just took it and bring it out" .... How Unprofessional .... Now my opinion of the food.... ordered 3 tacos... they got 1 wrong... and the other two: (1) chorizo was edible, (2) pastor was wayyyy toooo sweeet like BBQ yuk and (3) was supposed to be carnitas and it was pure disgusting skin ...... (1) I ABSOLUTELY HATED THE PLACE... (2) HATED THE SERVICE AND THE B*TCH FACES THE WAITRESS AND CASHIER HAD.... (3) I ABSOLUTELY HATED THE FOOD... Dont be mislead... they do serve a good portion but it's absolutely un edible & so not worth the visit... If I could have given the place a zero I would have because they totally sucked in all areas.... Please keep in mind... my husband is mexican and I was looking forward to visiting this place and having a positive experience, but he was MORE ANNOYED AND DISSAPOINTED THAN I WAS.... I am a lover for authentic Mexican tacos, and I have tried many different places, this by far the worst. where do I start.... 1. called to order my food for delivery, she said hello and left me hanging for over a min as she was talking to someone else, hang up call back same thing, not a hold on a sec, nothing just left me hanging, I should have know then and there. 2. finally called a 3rd time now she takes my order. food arrives, and the chicken is so dry, it had no flavor to it, and it taste as if it had been sitting there all day. I only ate one of the 3 tacos, so did my co-workers 3. If you are in the mood for flavorless dry tacos then this is the place to go or order from. read more

Horrible service, I can see why the business is EMPTY. My first time here, I went to order a chicken quesadilla. Upon opening my tray, I quickly noticed it had no cheese. Before came to this deli, I reviewed the rates. Some customers said good and also some customers were unhappy with the food and service. But I still wanted to try since it's very close where I live. When I came in with my kid. There's no customers (guess cause of the bad weather). When I came up to order the food, the waitress seemed kinda unfriendly. Anyway, I ordered a take out burrito. My go to place on Staten Island for tacos and tortas. It always satisfies my cravings. Love that they also make Horchata. Best thing to drink during the summer. Nitpicking would be that you have to order tacos by 3 but in all it's great. Plus it's 10 minutes from my house. read more

My husband and I are big fans of La Canasta and the owner Rogelio. Best Tacosin the island hands down. Tried the tongue, carnitas , chorizo, beefsteak ando others all delicious. Breakfast is very good too , and one time we dared to try the Chico soup but it was way too spicy. Orders take a bit on Fridays because there is a lot of take out. I also have the steak and rice and mashed pinto beans , very tasty. Call and Pick up your order if you can. You have to eat everything warm.
