This is my new spot for lunch on weekends when we take the kids out on the ferry to SI from the Battery! We were browsing the outlet mall and lunchtime hunger cues kicked in. My kids wanted Shake Shack but Hubby and I decided we wanted something else. The Burrito Shoppe was close by (about a 4 min walk) so we placed an online order. I stayed with the kids so they can eat their lunch and Hubby walked over to pick up our food. After the kids ate, we found some benches with plenty of shade for them to play so Hubby and I can eat. I'm usually a taco/burrito/empanada gal but I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla weekend special primarily because I knew my kids would want to take bites. I was not wrong. My youngest two (2 and 4) tried guac again and actually liked it this time, after sooo many tries! The leftover tortilla chips were great for snacking on the walk/ride back and I was pleasantly surprised at the portions of food, sour cream, guac and salsa that came in our order. I was sharing with my kids and it was plentiful to keep all of us full. The quesadilla was well seasoned, cheesy, and had a good amount of stuffing inside. This restaurant is AUTHENTIC Mexican food! Their portions are very generous and the flavors are sublime. I'm from Texas, where we have Mexican food in all parts of the state to compare, and this restaurant has exceeded my expectations. 10/10 would recommend, and if we ever come back to New Jersey, this is a for sure stop. I would give this place 3 1/2 if I could. This place is a five minute walk from the ferry and it's worth it if you're feeling Mexican food. They also do salads and smoothies. They have a wide menu of Mexican tacos, quesadillas, burritos and some sides. We stuck only to the full-size tacos. The shrimps are fried, seem to have a light coating, came with guacamole. The al pastor was fine. I thought they were all pretty good but a bit oily. Specifically I feel the tortillas were not that fresh, and the way they heated them up maybe added some extra oil. Perhaps it was because we ate here the day after Thanksgiving and they did not have fresh tortillas. As far as the interior of the restaurant, I thought it was fine. Definitely not romantic date material. They are trying. When we came here we were able to sit inside despite the Covid because they are distancing. Burrito Shoppe is a local staple. The interior does seem a bit dingy which may make you stand offish but don't let it. The food is good and reasonably priced. The torta combo is a good deal at $10 you get the torta, fries, and can of soda. Not a bad deal any time of day. The torta is delish! No complaints here on the. Strangely enough the first and second time I ordered this I got different types of fries. The fries the first time although more than enough, were extremely soggy shoestring fries. That being said I have ordered it more than once because the deal and the torta alone are the same price. So why not?! The second time they were thicker but still not crispy. The burrito bowl I ordered was alright. Meat was seasoned great. My sandwich on the other hand ? Had two pieces of LONG hairs in each half.... there's no way they didn't see that hair before topping the bread on top.... but it was stuck in the chicken cutlet. The prices are unreasonable and they make sure to nickel and dime you for everything you want added. A decent meal will cost you over $20. The steak burrito was good but I prefer Carne Asada in my Mexican food and not so much regular type steak, I like that Grilled Street Food Flavor of Carne Asada, with that said it didn't really give it that authentic Mexican taste but it was good, it tasted more like a burrito made in Puerto Rico. The guacamole needed some salt and lime to give it that kick. To charge $5.00 for delivery is excessive, I used Seamless to order and I guess they want the customer to pay for the fees that they charge, NOT Cool. Ordered 1 sandwich, 2 quesadilla, 6 tacos totaled $74 ridiculous. The cashier never said anything OR was there a sign that there will be a additional fee for using a debit card! The tacos only had meat, very little cheese & topped with Lettuces.... what taco has lettuces? They included 3 containers of mostly soggy onions bits if tomatoes. I pass by this place all the time on my way to the ferry, so today I ordered from them. I ordered the spicy beef burrito and a spicy chicken burrito bowl. The spicy beef burrito was just eh it contains fillers like carrots and potatoes which killed my vibe for it. Then I moved on to the burrito bowl (inner hobbit activate!) I got about a fourth of the way through the semi bland bowl to chew on something really tough. Cutting to the chase the tough thing was a piece of plastic. I tried to breathe and keep it cool but ended up losing my lunch after my imagination ran wild with notions of where it may be from. Fortunately I have no desire to eat anymore so that solves the lunch problem. read more

the store is close and accessible from the ferry terminal and the outlet. i ordered the burrito and it was stuffed! i was only able to eat a half and saved the rest for dinner. the cost is reasonable at about $8 and change. they heat up the wrap and you get to choose what kind of rice, beans, and 1 protein you want. most toppings (guac cost extra) are free like lettuce, salsa, sour cream etc. i was inbetween the spicy chicken and spicy ground beef. the spicy chicken was good and it has a nice kick! next time i will try the spicy ground beef. only thing is, i wish the rice had a bit more flavor. my friend got their spicy chicken quesdilla and it was good, i think the burrito has more flavor and is more worth it. this shop is casual/self service seating and you dont need to pay tip. it was homey. the colorful walls, the artwork, and calaveras on display is beautiful. read more

The Burrito Shoppe is positively one of the absolute best Mexican restaurants in Staten Island, and all of NYC. Their burritos are LOADED and filling. The carnitas burrito in particular is scrumptious. Everything they make here; the rice, beans, meat, tacos, flautas, etc, is all authentic and delicious. Ordered a chicken burrito from them and it was delicious. Was really impressed with the fresh veggies inside that was tossed in some sort of yummy homemade dressing. The chicken inside was well seasoned and flavorful which was also a pleasant surprise. (Usually the chicken in most Mex takeout is a little bland) As a matter of fact all the components of the burrito were fresh and flavorful. Portion size was generous too.
