I would give this place 3 1/2 if I could. This place is a five minute walk from the ferry and it's worth it if you're feeling Mexican food. They also do salads and smoothies. They have a wide menu of Mexican tacos, quesadillas, burritos and some sides. We stuck only to the full-size tacos. The shrimps are fried, seem to have a light coating, came with guacamole. The al pastor was fine. I thought they were all pretty good but a bit oily. Specifically I feel the tortillas were not that fresh, and the way they heated them up maybe added some extra oil. Perhaps it was because we ate here the day after Thanksgiving and they did not have fresh tortillas. As far as the interior of the restaurant, I thought it was fine. Definitely not romantic date material. They are trying. When we came here we were able to sit inside despite the Covid because they are distancing. Someone was putting up a Christmas tree to make the atmosphere more festive.

Food took awhile to be served and most of the food got mixed up. Nice small tables to sit and the ambiance was very calm. Food was a little bland but still good overall.

Burrito Shoppe is a local staple. The interior does seem a bit dingy which may make you stand offish but don't let it. The food is good and reasonably priced. The torta combo is a good deal at $10 you get the torta, fries, and can of soda. Not a bad deal any time of day. The torta is delish! No complaints here on the. Strangely enough the first and second time I ordered this I got different types of fries. The fries the first time although more than enough, were extremely soggy shoestring fries. That being said I have ordered it more than once because the deal and the torta alone are the same price. So why not?! The second time they were thicker but still not crispy. The burritos/burrito bowls are BIG. More than enough food to fill you and then some.

So good! I ordered on Seamless. Speedy delivery and great food. It was still hot when it arrived!

The bag supposedly contains a shrimp burrito with no onions.

This burrito tasted really great, showed up quickly and the delivery guy was nice and friendly. unfortunately i don't think they could have possibly fit more onions in my "shrimp burrito with no onions" still hit the spot though.

The burrito bowl I ordered was alright. Meat was seasoned great. My sandwich on the other hand ? Had two pieces of LONG hairs in each half.... there's no way they didn't see that hair before topping the bread on top.... but it was stuck in the chicken cutlet. Otherwise my experience wouldn't have been that bad, but definitely not going back now because of that. I would've taken more pictures but I threw it right out so this is all I have.

A bowl of lettuce for 13$

A bowl of lettuce for 13.99 . Straight garbage disgusting it went into the trash . Stingy with the toppings clearly cuz there wasn't anything in it but lettuce as u can see.

Ordered in the chorizo taco with the works, i.e. Pico de gallo, shredded cheese, guacamole, etc. It was awesome! The chorizo seemed Colombian so there were chunks rather than crumbles. The empanada was stuffed beautifully with mashed potatoes and minced veggie/meat and tasted like an amazing pillow of seasoned wonderfulness. Would definitely order these items again!

$5.00 for delivery, plus tip, NOT COOL!

The steak burrito was good but I prefer Carne Asada in my Mexican food and not so much regular type steak, I like that Grilled Street Food Flavor of Carne Asada, with that said it didn't really give it that authentic Mexican taste but it was good, it tasted more like a burrito made in Puerto Rico. The guacamole needed some salt and lime to give it that kick. To charge $5.00 for delivery is excessive, I used Seamless to order and I guess they want the customer to pay for the fees that they charge, NOT Cool. Because of that I don't know how often I'll order from them.

Cheese inside the "enchilada" not even remotely melted.

An Unforgettable Quesabirria Experience at Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine!…read more Finding truly exceptional Mexican food can sometimes feel like a quest, but my visit to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine delivered in a big way, specifically with their phenomenal Quesabirria. From the moment it arrived, I had a feeling it would be special, and I was not disappointed. The quesabirria itself was a masterpiece of flavor and texture. It was immediately clear that freshness was a priority here. The tortilla was perfectly crisped, providing a satisfying base for the generous filling inside. But the real star was the birria steak - it was incredibly tender, bursting with juice, and packed with a deep, savory taste that spoke of careful preparation and quality ingredients. Each bite was simply delicious. What truly elevated the dish, however, were the thoughtful details. The fresh cilantro wasn't just sprinkled on; it added a vibrant, aromatic quality and a necessary burst of freshness that cut through the richness of the meat and cheese beautifully, enhancing the overall taste profile significantly. And then there was the consumé. Oh, that consumé! Calling it 'out of this world' is almost an understatement. It was served steaming hot, a rich, dark broth brimming with complex flavors. It was savory, comforting, and utterly addictive. Seriously, it was so incredibly delicious and satisfying on its own that I could have happily just sipped it straight from the cup. Dipping the flavorful quesabirria into that liquid gold created a perfect harmony - a truly memorable culinary moment. It's been a little while since I had the chance to visit Maya's Cafe, but the memory of that meal has genuinely stayed with me. I find myself actively craving that specific combination of flavors and textures again. While I haven't managed to get back just yet, I am truly looking forward to my next visit, and you can bet I'll be ordering the quesabirria again. If you appreciate authentic Mexican cuisine made with care, or if you're on the hunt for truly outstanding quesabirria, I wholeheartedly recommend making a trip to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine. It was a fantastic experience, driven by that incredibly tasty and well-executed dish. You won't regret it!

Taco shells were fresh corn Shells with I think grilled melted cheese. The chicken and beef in the tacos were seasoned well with fresh cilantro and lime wedges squeeze on it. Everything was made fresh and had great flavors . The serving size is perfect if you want to share or not it's not to much . The nachos have Mexican street corn on them my first time having nachos like this but it was delicious. Guacamole was fresh and very delicious. The location is definitely a hidden gem it's very clean and cozy BUT ITS VERY COLD I would have loved to stay and eat but it was just as cold inside as it was outside . The staff is very friendly and they literally will make anything any way you want. Price point is not expensive it's decently priced for the servings you get.

The experience was very pleasant, and service was quick (I paid and I had a few minutes to go across the street to the Mexican bakery to get two cream puffs for a $1 while they make my tacos) while they made my food. I stopped by at around 11am and the place was empty but there are plenty of seats available in the taqueria with lots of Mexican drinks options. The ambiance was quiet. I asked for two cacti tacos, also known as the Taco Azteca at this taqueria as recommended by the other Yelpers. I started with two because I heard that their tacos run big. These tacos were enormous and I was full eating after just one taco and saved the other one for an afternoon snack!! They also give you a generous cup of green sauce, which is one of my favorites! Because normally when getting a cactus taco in the other boroughs, they only give you a straight vegetarian taco only, but I was very surprised it came with a big chunk of meats. For $10-12 for two big giant tacos, I feel like I am getting fed very well. I'll definitely be back again to try their lamb/goat soup as recommended by the other Yelpers.
