Melon Agua Fresca

Nabbed a dinner here. Ordered Carne Guisada and Enchiladas Rojos filled with ground beef. Pretty comfy and filling meal. If you're looking to be impressed flavor-wise, I wouldn't recommend coming here for that purpose; there are alternatives which would leave a better impression on your taste buds. That said, I enjoyed the salsa they provide with the chips. It packed a nice amount of heat, but not so hot as to auto-activate hiccups. Also enjoyed the Melon Agua Fresca and Horchata, though on the slightly sweeter side. Service was great; the staff are quite friendly, sweet, and on point. Our enchilada and carne Guisada mains were edible. But they didn't speak to me or bring me to paradise. Some rice kernels were rock hard. The charro beans were recommended over the refried beans, but they were also pretty light on flavor. The carne guisada was tender; the gravy was beefy. The enchiladas were quite plain; the ground beef within tasted quite clean. The bathrooms are in the back, up a slight ramp. One of them is handicapped accessible; the other one is not. Paintings adorn the restaurant walls and bathroom walls.

Good food but the service was lacking. Self seating and we waited 10 mins before a waitress came over to take our drink order. Another 10 mins passed when another waitress took our drink order again because the original waitress never placed our original drink order. We placed our food order and once we received our food, we never say our waitress again. When we were ready for the bill, we had to get another waitress to check us out. Again food was good but the service needs some work

Have been here multiple times, never disappointed. Area is always clean, service is always prompt and polite. Food is some of the best "abuela's cooking" I've had.

This was our first time at La Cantera and we will definitely be back! Good service, good space, and good food. We started with the queso and got the chilaquiles and migas. We were pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed everything. Homemade tortillas and horchata were great too. YUM.

Cant speak about the plates but the tacos are AWESOME! I love their breakfast and have always had great waitresses that took care of me. I also love that we can but some of their homemade tortillas to take home. I highly recommend this place. The "Lockhart Burrito " always hits the spot.

Lunch Pork chop plate is one of the best I've had. And I'm pretty picky . I took the picture before there was nothing left sorry . I will most certainly come back with friends and family . My only ragret ( not a single letter ) was not ordering both corn & flour tortillas. I should have spread butter on them but they were that good that I forgot . The rice was perfectly cooked , the borracho beans had bacon & yummy . I feel like a million bucks after this brunch!! Adios amigos

It's good, not very expensive, and never crowded. The table service is fair to ok depending on who you get.

No frills bbq gets a no frills review…read more Brisket was worth the drive. Sausage was ok. The jalapeno sausage seemed to have some other spice like fennel in it too, which was unexpected but good. You enter the building and are immediately in front of the pit and even some open fire. You order your meat from the guys and pay there. Then you can go into the dining room and order sides, or just eat your meat like we did. They aren't kidding when they say "no forks." They just give you knives, but the brisket barely needs a knive.

The firewood sits on the ground as you walk in as a part of their open-fire cooking style bringing smoke into the brick pits. These new school smokers don't do it like Smitty's. As we walked in at 10:30, there was no line. We asked for the simplest order. A single slice of brisket and a single slice of turkey. It was about $12 all in. As we sat down with one of the 4 pieces of butcher paper for 2 slices of meat, I noticed that there are no forks at Smitty's. Just knives. We got to work. The turkey was fantastic. Barbecue turkey is honestly an underrated concept and their turkey was juicy, soft, and would change any Thanksgiving meal to one for the history books. I was extremely disappointed in the slice of brisket though. It was extremely chewy like plastic. Decently seasoned but not tender at all. Probably a bit undercooked. It was worth visiting for the experience, especially to get a picture next to the fire pit, which one of the people on staff was nice enough to take for us. As we walked out, we noticed tons of their awards and recognitions. It's cool to give a classic originator of Texas barbecue a hat tip like we did. RIYL: The originators or fire on the floor
