I was very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The service was slow and inattentive throughout the meal. What bothered me most was that another customer behind me actually moved my chair without asking while I was seated. I brought the situation to the staff's attention, but the manager did nothing to address it or speak with the customer. It made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I ordered take out on a Monday. Enchiladas. I drove maybe a mile to miles up the road. Food was not hot at all. Warm. Cheese was not even melted. Cold sour cream on top of warm food, made things worst. This may have been one of the worst meals and Mexican meals I've had in years. The positive side was the waitress. We ordered the burrito grande and 2 beef tacos. They sent out 2 chicken tacos. Informed waitress and she said she would go talk to kitchen. She never came back to the table. The burrito was cold. There were only 2 bites taken out of one of the tacos. The other one was flipped open to see if it was beef or chicken. One of the waitresses said to a group of us that one of her coworkers was a dumb cun* when the coworker went to the bathroom. Very unprofessional. She also started talking about tattoos, and then she pulled her pants down to her ankles in the back area, and stood there, in her striped underwear, to show us one of them. It was uncomfortable. Recently, we ordered via DoorDash because we won't even go in there anymore, and she took a screenshot and sent it to us on messenger with a sarcastic message. Very odd. I did take out. I went in and ordered. The girl was polite and helpful. I ordered a carnesada burrito and a chimichanga. Went in and picked it up. No issues. Got home big issues. The burrito was horrible and they put watered down sauce on it.The edge of the tortilla was hard and dried. The Chimichangas were just as awful. chimichangas are deep fried burritos not some crap pan seared. let alone the meat inside was dried tough pieces of beef. We are very picky with Hispanic food, having lived in California for years and my fiancée is from El Salvador. This place is authentic for sure! We dined here last night and the food was fantastic! I really want this place to be cleaner than it is. Absolutely greasy floors, smelly tables (like wet, dirty washcloth), and the bathroom is atrocious (dark, dingy, and musty). Don't order water because the filter on that machine must've not been cleaned or replaced since 1985 (it tastes AWFUL). All that being said... the food was not bad. I ordered a few different dishes (I've been twice) and thought they were pretty average. It's just hard to enjoy it when your arms are sticking to the table. With a little TLC I think this place could be great. read more

The most horrible food I ever had in my life. I took my adult daughter there for lunch and neither of us could eat it. The Chili Rellenos seemed to be premade, previously frozen then deep fried in old oil and then smothered in a sauce. they were nothing but mush and oil. It was so bad I had to go home brush my teeth and gargle to get the greasy film out of my mouth. With that being said the waiter was great. read more

Good food, great service. There on July 5th. The floors were extremely wet and dangerous for everyone especially the handicapped, elderly and children. We had all those - handicapped with a cane, elderly and the two year old did slip and would have fallen if her mom didn't immediately grab her before she went in the high chair. The waitresses were shuffling so they didn't fall with fans on that didn't help. Our waiter was a young man who helped elderly women to the chairs. He was awesome in service and demeanor! We didn't witness anyone falling and hope no one did as the restaurant would be responsible. read more

Salsa, no spice and bland. Chips are thin and not great. Then my three chicken enchiladas came out and from the moment I looked at them I knew the enchilada sauce was not going to be good. It was an off color red. I dipped my fork in the sauce to try it first before taking a bite, it tasted like it was spoiled. I could not even even fathom eating my dinner. The nachos were made with the cheap chips that break. Unseasoned beef. We asked for the check and left our food. I did not take one bite! There were 2 health violations while we were there. Cleaning rags sitting out on an end table and the front door propped open. When a Mexican restaurant has rock n roll playing and it's not busy, that's when you know something is wrong. This place was extremely disappointing. The food was really bland and soggy. The rice and beans tasted like they had been sitting out for hours. They had one waitress for the whole place. She had a bunch of tables, the bar, and was also bringing the takeout orders, so everything was taking forever. I've been to many Mexican restaurants and this was probably the worst one. We were looking for a Mexican spot in Escanaba and boy oh boy did we find it. La Cantina's tables and chairs are awesome, hand carved and hand painted in Mexico they were amazing. Also, excellent menu, I want standard and had a ginormous burrito which was really good, as was the quesadilla my fiancée had. Chips and salsa were good, huge margarita.
