If you like eating food that tastes like salt, this is your place to go. There is nothing gourmet, or subtle, or layered about the flavors or seasonings in their dishes. Salt is the prevalent taste. And, you get to pay a lot for the privilege of consuming this quantity of salt. The menu is very limited & poorly printed. The prices are beyond what the quality of food can demand. If you're a sports fan (there's no angle from which you can't see a TV) & enjoy drinking margaritas that come out of one of those high fructose pumping slushy machines, this is your place to go! Apparently, no one manages this restaurant, as we never saw anyone who looked like they were in charge during our visit. The waiter was very nice, but spoke little English ... So, when I told him that the food tasted like one big salt block, he just smiled & nodded his head. The place is new ... the architecture of the building is very appropriate ... the landscaping is very nice. There is an outdoor seating area, if you enjoy dining w/ traffic noise as the background music & all the car exhaust you can inhale. The inside looks like a glorified sports bar. [A personal peeve: Why do restaurants feel it necessary to install televisions? I can stay home & eat in front of the TV. When I go out to eat, it is for the experience of dining ... to perhaps eat something that I don't make at home ... I'm not interested in recreating my living room experience.] My take: if you've got calories & money to waste, go eat at La Carreta ... otherwise, go elsewhere. read more

My 3rd visit. Food was just bad. Flavor was meh or non-existent, and I wondered where the rest of my ingredients were. The carne asada that came as part of my meal was the only great-tasting part of my meal. The drinks were excellent. The atmosphere is pretty and fun. The service was good. This place is got awful. Everything is salted to death. People in this area of Louisiana do not know what actual Mexican or tex mex food is supposed to taste like. The only people that really like this place are the same people that think Taco Bell is authentic Mexican food too. I didn't see one Hispanic person in the restaurant. Don't be fooled by the colorful pseudo-fiesta style decor and menu nor the Mexican music playing overhead (along with circa 2006 top 40 with Pitbull mixed in) this place is not even close to authentic. I had the enchiladas with carne asada. The beans were OK, the rice was OK. The enchiladas themselves for chewy, over salted, with a tasteless sauce on top. Carne Asada was tough, rubbery and cooked too much. I had tortilla soup for an appetizer and could not finish it because it was so salty. The parking lot was full and most of the wait staff were walking around with their masks under their chins. My favorite part about this experience was leaving. read more

Best Mexican food by far in Houma. Food is fresh and plentiful. The chili Relleno and enchiladas are good and try the chipotle shrimp as an appetizer ! Delicious. I hope they stay in business for a long time! read more

I love this location. I have been to Dehnam Springs, Hammond, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans BUT Houma is my favorite! They always have an upbeat atmosphere with live music almost everytime I am there. The wait has never been long. The salads are so good and it is pretty much all I need since we usually do queso, chips, and drinks mainly anyway. Oh yea, KID FRIENDLY!! Don't get a babysitter, just bring the kid, especially if there is live music that night ;-) read more

This is one of the few spots in town with a decent patio to have drinks on. We usually come on Taco Tuesday for $2 tacos. The food is pretty good. I don't like cilantro, so the fact that they don't offer cilantro free salsa is kind of a bummer. Suggestion to management, offer cilantro free salsa as well. But I'm not a huge salsa and chips eater, so it's not a big deal. There is usually live music on the patio on Thursdays. read more

Ordered take out (Tacos Al Carbon and Carne Asada Fajitas) and was told it would take 20 minutes. I arrived at 20 minutes later and went inside to pick up my order. The attendant said my order was not ready yet, I that I can wait in my car and they would take it out to me. So I paid and waited in my car. I waited 20 minutes in my car till I got my order. I was very frustrated it took so long but happy to get my food. I arrive home (less than 5 minutes away) and see that I was missing half of my order the Fajitas were missing the sides (beans, rice etc...) Most of all the totillas. What are Fajitas without tortillas? At this point I'm very upset at the meal I received but began to eat hoping that the food I 'did' get would make up for it. No it did not, the food was bland and cold. I would think that waiting 20 extra minutes would mean that my food was freshly made, but no the first bite was luke warm. I did not enjoy my meal at all. After my experience I don't think I will be ordering from here again. read more

Is by far the best sit down mexican restaurant in Houma. Food treated fresh and had flavor as well as affordable.

This place used to be sooooo much better. We've been coming here since 2015. The new chef has ruined most Of The dishes here including taco Tuesday. We used to go every Tuesday and now only if we are in a rush because it's close to us. The lack of ingredients and the change in flavor since last year Is so disappointing. I've come here several Times this year not On taco Tuesday with my family And almost everything we ordered was inedible. Either undercooked or just Mush thrown together. I will say The atmosphere Is very good and service is great but the food truly has gone from quite Good, To way below average. The margarita is on point! However the fajitas are not good! We are fans of fajitas but these taste of Cajun spice with meat over done and tomato over powering it. If you go here eat something other than the steak and chicken fajitas! read more

Had great experience in Madisonville area, but not impressed in Houma. No management present, so there's zero quality control. Bartenders need to be managed, the bartender tonight had zero drinks of his large party rang in, was asking them what they had as he was closing their tabs and then ringing the drinks up...there's the way to earn a profit for the buisness. Go there with a large party if you want a bunch of free drinks, but from a manager and buisness perspective, that should not be happening. Wow. If a bartender can't handle 10 separate tabs, then he shouldn't be bartending. Period. read more

My client chose this restaurant for a business meeting. The atmosphere was very vibrant and lively with music. The staff was courteous and friendly. The chips and salsa on the table was a nice start. I ordered the chicken flautas for my meal and it was okay. The outside wrap was not very crunchy but the chicken inside tasted fine. The rice served along with it was mediocre. Portion size was generous. La Carreta is currently not on par with other Mexican restaurants in the Houma area. There is potential for improvement. read more

Shared a burrito, grilled chicken and cheese only. It came out later than our other family menbers food and it was wrong and had to be sent back. It came out and it was not hot...barely warm. We ordered a side of beans and they were not good at all. The queso and chips are good. Other members had beef tacos and steak tacos and were happy with their food. read more

Had the Lunch Special, 2- fried oyster tacos, what a rip-off, when we walked in the sign on the board said Special $9.75 for Oyster Tacos. While they tasted good, was extremely surprised when I got 2 tacos with 1 oyster on each taco. I figured 75 cent worth of tortilla, beans and rice and $4.50 a piece for the oyster, what a rip off!!! Best part by the time we were finished and walking out the price on the special had changed to $11.25. this is the fourth time I have gone to La Carreta, the other times have been in the evening , never was impressed with food or their drinks. Safe to say this is the last Time no matter if that is where the group wants to go or not. read more
