So I was actually looking for another Mexi-Bus joint. When I couldn't find it I turned around and stopped at a place that I had passed while looking for the other place. It was what you would expect from one of these mexican food carts until you see the prices and taste the flavors. It was Sunday so I had to get the menudo, the texture was my only complaint of the soup. I love tripe but this one tasted like it cooked a tad too long but the broth was out of this world. They were all out of tamales so I ordered ceviche instead, it was out of this world good. I had the four taco dish with pork and the normal fixings. It was really classic/authentic. The wife got the burrito plate and that was amazing. So lets review all of that: - 2 servings of ceviche -Menudo for 4 -Humungous Burrito with beans, rice, sour cream, & guacamole -4 pork tacos -Some other fixins All that for 19 bucks and some change. I ate 8 tacos total. Yeah, they were fuckin good. I was in the market for food, driving down Meridian, leaving Mt. Rainier, and noticed the 49 cent tacos sign, and about flipped my whig! People who know me know, I'm a fuckin taco guy who talks about tacos and dreams about where I'm going to eat my next one. anyways, I'm from Central Valley California and I currently reside in LA, so I have taco cred people...not to brag, but I know my shit. This place here is legit. You're lucky to have such quality in the most random spot in Washington. I ordered 1 pollo, 1 asada, 2 "spicy pork" (which is actually their version of pastor). Everything was right on. With each taco I ate, the more surprised I was at how good they were, especially after being somewhat disappointed from Flair Taco in Fremont...I thought there might have been no hope for this state. La Carreta provided and redeemed you WA. After devouring the four, I ordered 2 carnitas and 2 more pastor. The lady working the truck was very nice, and could tell I was happy, which made her happy. about the flavors, I think what really stuck out was their carnitas. I've been hard pressed to find a carnitas that's been worthy of its own paragraph in my review, but this here took it. Usually the blandest of the meats in mexican food, it held up perfectly, slow cooked and roasted to my sense of perfection, juicy and toasty, not dryed out.. i hate dry carnitas. They acted as a canvas to hold the salsa onions and cilantro, it was a good taco. The pastor, on the other hand, surprised me because I usually don't like saucy pastor. But this one proved to me that there is hope on the other side. The saucyness came mainly from the grease on the grill mingling with the marinade, and I loved it. btw - these tacos are small, taco truck style tortillas. they heated the tort's up proper and they kept heat like they should. The bottom line is that Taqueria La Carreta aka "the taco truck by Avis", changed the way I feel about Mexican food in Pierce County. If the question is, "what is one to do to satisfy a hankering for yummy mexicanness" when all the "tres amigos", Mazatlans, and Azteca's have blended together into a homogenous mass of unauthentic Mexi-schlock, taco trucks are the answer and Taqueria La Carreta is exceptional. Their steak tacos with pickled carrots and jalapenos are the best thing i've eaten out in at least a month. I actually tried the other truck across the street and Carreta is much better. What can I say...it was delicious. I had 6, yes 6 of the asada tacos and my wife had teh burrito. Both were wonderful. I would recommend this taco truck to anyone. The meet was not overcooked, pefect level of spiceyness. We will be back as soon as we can. read more

La Carreta is delicious. Being one of the two taco trucks in the area I say La Carreta gets it due to the signature quickness of taco trucks and the delicious food they pump out consistently. I usually take carnitas with my tacos but the carne asada and chicken are also my top choices. Every time I've ordered a plate I haven't been disappointed. Cheap delicious and quick! read more
